    I think the winter tests are the best, because they put maximum stress to the range. So they describe the worst range to expect. Car manufacturers often describes the best conditions, but not 120 km/h on wet roads at 0 degrees Celsius.

    Bjorn - I've spent a couple of weeks watching European based EV tests & reviews and your content is head & shoulders above any other reviewer. Some of the others are so "salesman" and/or so "macho-stats" I can barely watch them anymore.
    I love your humour and quirky English - I particularly enjoy your Dukes of Hazzard (yes, two Zs for the place, one Z for the noun) sheriff's "shee-eet" impression, your German words and of course "it's charging like a ba-oss!".
    You go into really useful detail on the seats, the audio, the charging curves, the cargo space, the functions & ergonomics. Things that actually matter.
    I enjoy your commentary on food.
    I love the car-camping tests (which some commentators completely miss the value of, eg how the heating system works).
    You produce valuable data sheets.
    All in all if I pick a particular car and watch your videos on that one I get a really valuable impression as a potential buyer.
    And you always give interesting commentary on "life with an EV". The fact that you have an interesting and "real" personality in your car videos also makes your personal videos very watchable.
    May you live long and prosper Bjorn! I hope that your channel continues on and on as the EV revolution gathers pace 🙂

    The Pirelli summer tires do have a A -rating on the EU Tire Label on energy consumption/ rolling resistance. The rolling resistance causes a linear additional energy consumption to speed and therefore is significant for under 60 km/h. You can decrease the rolling resistance by increasing the tire pressure (1~3% each 0.1 bar) but keep in mind - the minimum break distance will increase as soon as the tires are inflated above and lower the recommended tire pressure. Anyway: great quick test

    I drove my EQC from Oslo to Stavanger today (20th of Oct. 2023) with 20" Michellin stud-free tyres on AMG rims and got an average consumption of 23.7, really impressive! The conditions were wet, very windy and 0-3 C degrees. Happy days!

    Will you be giving the Kia EV6 a full review this side of Xmas? I would love to see 1000km challenge and banana boxes for this car. Love the channel Bjorn

      @@abraxastulammo9940 My guess: Kia EV6 charges faster, but 1000Km-Challenge the EQS should win, due to the efficiency.

    I drove NYC to Chicago twice in the same car. Kia Soul Gasoline. December 2020 and August 2021. Got 28 mpg in December and 34.5 mpg in August. Significant range difference in the same car with the same passengers.

    Mercedes EQC with the same battery pack and charging speed of the new EQS would be one of the best EVs out there. I hope Mercedes updates the car in that direction in the mandatory midlife restyling despite the launch of the new EQE

      Well it's not quite possible to fit the EQS Battery Pack into the EQC. What is going to happen next year, however, is they're going to make an EQE SUV which is only going to be a little bigger than the EQC. It's going to offer the EQE's 90kWh usable battery and it's going to be a lot more efficient and spacious than the EQC. It will also feature the EQE's charging speed of up to 170kW with 10-80% in around 30 minutes. I don't expect huge changes with an EQC refresh, if there's even going to be one, since the car it's based on, the GLC, is going out of production next year. The EQC was a quick and dirty electric car and work on it's replacement is well underway. Mercedes knows it's just too compromised to make a sellable EV for another 5 years.

      The sad thing is there will nevrr be eqc's on the used market.
      Would buy this used, fity my needs, i do not do long range that often.

    Consumption is so so... We`ve seen worse with similar size... At 90 it`s unusually high, but hey, saving the planet with good sound insulation :D

    noise on wet roads / Mercedes quality: even our Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is able to drive with almost no noise on wet roads at german Autobahn; either this is not difficult or the Outi does this well, too :-)

    By the way, why do you use wh/km when every car (except Tesla) uses kwh/100km?

    What regen did you use? I always use it auto when I drive on highways and feel that give me most regen back.

      D-Auto is awesome! It's much more efficient because it wont regen every time I release the acceleration pedal. Very nice feature I did not see in any other EV yet.

    Tyre temperature: maybe a combination of a slight wind from the right/right-rear and the weight of one standard Asian unit? 😉
    As for the wet road, it could be that the extra energy is just from the amount of water displacement? Since the amount is not dependant on speed, it stays relatively constant?
    Even 1mm of standing water, you are moving 1 kilogrammes of water out of the way for every kilometer you drive, for every millimeter of thread width. So two 235mm tyres are moving 470 kg per kilometer, of there is a 1mm layer of water.

    Interesting test but not with the same tire son not the same rolling résistance so the difference is difficult to know where it come from.

      But you have to understand that in summer we use summer tires and in winter we use winter tires. This test is more realistic.

    There are multiple factors in this.
    If it’s actually raining or there’s lots of spray from other cars then the effective density of the air is greater - so more drag... but, it’s possible that the surface of the car has slightly lower drag when wet?
    On the road surface - if it’s damp, the rolling resistance is probably less, but the moment there is significantly more water then the tyres are working to displace it, resulting in more.
    It’s all much too complicated!

      @@airestocky Can't rent a car everytime I go away with the caravan. I also have a trailer that I use regulary. That one on the other hand I can tow with our EV, but range will make it a bit of a challenge. We have an EV but the family is in need of two cars. Reasons are the location of where we live and worksituations.

    For fossil cars, only 30+% of consumption will go to propulsion anyway, the rest is losses. So a 4-8% more rolling resistance should translate into 1-3% more fuel consumption.

    A best in the dry at 90 kmh of 3.3m/kWh and a worst in the wet at 120 kmh of 2.2m/kWh all looks horrible from the seat of my 'classic' Ioniq!

    There is no real range difference between winter and summer for fossil cars. Slimmer tyres and more efficient combustion cancel out more friction.
