    Damn dude that was the most epic gear tour I've ever seen. Did you use the guitar synth on your Strat to make the music?

    Unless you have some really innovative stuff of your own composed for 8-string, I would recommend the 7. If you want to get an 8-string to cover Meshuggah it's an expensive bit of fun! =P

  • @Bladmapples
    @Bladmapples 14 років тому

    Awesome, though I've always wondered how an 8 string guitar would be tuned?
    I was so close to buying an ESP Viper with the urban camo just because of your Vivadi cover. XD
    Anyway, looking forward to part 2 :)

    @Freezaen i dont know if you have purchaed on yet, because you commented this about a month ago, however i had a schecter damien elite 8 string which was absolutely amazing. however i let it go because almost everything i play is in drop c and thats the one tuning 8 strings really dont do. the guitar is also very affordable, since it is $630 new and down to $450 used. everything about the guitar played perfectly, everything was solid and i was very impressed based on its price.

    Under output select it has things like "Small amp" "twin stack" "Combo" ect, I have tried different ones with little success, it sounds better but not good by any means. I got 150 in amazon gift cards for Christmas and bought a Tascam US-100 and Shure SM57 so I will mic my cab and try that route. I may buy a software based amp simulator later on too and try direct again. Thanks for your help Mike I appreciate it.

    That's cool, I like the MIM Fender's but I don't like 21 frets. Also out of all your favourites that Carvin is my absolute favourite.

  • @lbarj
    @lbarj 15 років тому

    Cool I agree 100% on the Carvins - I suppose you could get a prs that plays as well but you'd spend a whole lot more. I also have an old Carvin Ultra V from like the 80 w a floyd thats from my Hair Metal days LOL .

  • @Freezaen
    @Freezaen 12 років тому

    @sniperpickle No, I didn't purchase it, it's becoming a long term type project. I'm really contemplating either Agile, Guerilla or Carvin. Probably gonna be a Carvn, because they let you choose everything but the pickups basically and mine would be around 1500$ (taxe and shipping in). That being said, I'll look into the Schecter, thanks. I just don't have money for anything at the moment, and after this term, I have to work to pay for the appartment I plan on moving into next year.

    I don't have an audio interface of any kind, My GT-6 doesn't have usb, I just take the output from the GT-6 effects processor (that usually runs to my amp) and plug it straight into my computers line in/mic input. How important is an audio interface? Not to pepper you with too many questions but I just want to sponge some of you wisdom :) Would GT-6 + impact twin + audacity be a proper set up? Or does audacity kinda suck for this stuff? Thanks for your help.

  • @95TurboSol
    @95TurboSol 12 років тому

    Hey Cataclysm, I have a question, I just got a 1/4 to headphone converter and plugged my guitar into my Boss GT-6 then plugged the GT-6 to the computer and recorded it with audacity but it sounds like absolute crap, it's real distorted and has no depth to the sound at all. What is a good way to record directly to computer? Is it a software problem or do I need to get some sort of hardware? What do you personally use?
    Thanks.

    You can spend your money any way you want... If you're a collector of guitars, it's the same like being a stamp collector or an insect collector. Ok then. It's a hobby. Collecting guitars and equipment. I see no point in that, but that's me. What I said is that you don't need so much and expensive equipment to create art. I thought that the point in having an instrument is creating art or playing covers (but playing covers doesn't require the epitome of guitar equipment, nor a shitload of it).

  • @Freezaen
    @Freezaen 12 років тому

    Hey Mike, I'm planning on getting an 8 string, either a Carvin or an Agile. Have you played both? Which do you recommend? I'm leaning towards Carvin because they let me choose my wood and all, but I've seen and heard Agiles, they're awesome. Anyway, repond if you can.

  • @Freezaen
    @Freezaen 12 років тому

    @cataclysmichael Thanks, I think it's great you responded and so fast. Another question, now that I,m leaning toward the Carvin, do you know how Walnut compares to Mahogany body wood? I love Mahogany for it's deep tone and apparently Walnut has "brighter high-mids" or some crap like that. Anyway, people say it can be an upgrade "if you et a good piece" and it looks sexy. If you know anything, again, respong if you can. ^ ^

    Yeah I know. You can create awesome sound without a head. And I mean amazing sound. Both for recording and live. But you know, if you can have a head, why not... Still, a nice rack or a pedal are indeed more convenient and I've heard the sound that a friend of mine made with a boss gt-8... It ripped. I would prefer a rack or an effects pedal too. But the engl is a nice piece. Powerball was it?

  • @VomitYouOut

    hey michael i know you may been asked this multiple times already but im very particular about tone and fine tune sound like periphery also one of my favorites. im thinking about running a firepod and m audio setup for recording..
    whats your setup and is there anything you would recommend that i get, im a bit of beginner but i want quality recordings
    thanks!

  • @Fasistoktonos_
    @Fasistoktonos_ 14 років тому

    You can create awesome sound with none of these racks, too. :S If you really paid so much money just to play covers, and you got a loan (as you say) to pay for it, I say that's stupid. You, specifically, don't need this equipment. Someone can work wonders with just a couple of pieces. And I'm not starting a conversation here. My opinion (which is right :P).

    considering the quality and accuracy of his covers and videos its irrelevant wether or not he makes original material (which he probably does and doesnt want to post). a musician is someone who plays a instrument, where in its definition does it say "Must create original material?" what about orchestras that play classical compositions? i guess they arent musicians either because they play Beethoven and bach and mozart.

    EMGs (which are not the best anyway), licensed floyd rose. What don't you like and where do you think that this guitar will not do the same with the far more expensive guitars? I can also give you examples of bands with LTDs whose music kick ass... And about what I would choose, yeah right, if it's free, obviously. Although, that would be a show off. Why pay all that just to show off? It's better to have the money and invest it in a better way. Anyway...

  • @Fasistoktonos_
    @Fasistoktonos_ 14 років тому

    You didn't say anything about my main point, but anyway... Lol, no, I don't spend my time checking out guitar specifications. But, let me give you an example. A Schecter with EMGs, original floyd rose, great neck and a great guitar all over costs about 900 euros or less. ESP will assfuck you to give you a guitar like that. 1500 and 2000 euros. That's what I'm saying. Still, I've played with an LTD which costs 500 now, and it blew my mind. Fucking awesome neck,

    And the masterminds you just mentioned are dead. And their music is beyond anything. How is that similar to just one guy sitting there playing opeth or meshuggah or cob (which i love, don't get me wrong)? I mean, I'll probably see them live in the next months. Admit that you want to hear new music. Who doesn't? Who doesn't want to listen to new awesome music? I mean you can play the cover fine. So? Show us your idea of how music should be made. That's what I mean.

    Experience and stupidity are two totally different things. The second might stay the same or grow bigger too as years go by. Age means nothing.
    Dude, did I say 20$? For fuck's sake! There's a big gap between 20 and 2000, lol. And I said it before, I'll say it again. You can create fucking awesome sound with just ONE rack or ONE decent pedal. You don't need a fucking 2000$ amp. Seriously now. And besides, the artist gets better equipment as he/she grows as an artist. Slowly.

    Sure, it may be boring to me and not to others. But, you know. Covers are rarely successfull. You take somebody else's work and play it again. While you can create your own music. Music that's literally a part of you. You know? That gives you even more satisfaction than a cover. But anyway. Suit yourselves.
    The truth is that an expensive car might go faster than a cheaper and older. Althouh, cars are a bad example, because there are faulty expensive cars. And art and skill is not about speed...

    It's boring doing covers and showing it to others. What's the point? Ok, I used the wrong word. Not musician. Sorry. Artist. Of course the definition of the word musician doesn't include the phrase "someone who makes original music". But yeah, that's an artist. Someone who creates original music. And lol, what do orchestras playing beethoven and bach and mozart have to do with that? What are you comparing? :S Besides, all they need is a good instrument.

You, on the other hand, even though you say you're 20, you're far younger than 13... In your brain. And of course you're done with this. You can't say anything smart, so that's best for all of us.

  • @Fasistoktonos_
    @Fasistoktonos_ 14 років тому

    You didn't say anything new to me... Don't get me wrong, though. Still, I'll tell you the same. You paid way too much for nothing. You've got an ESP. Why? For covers? Why not an LTD then? Oh really? You want a 7-string and an 8-string to play 7-string and 8-string songs? Really? Well, tell me about it... :P There is a cheaper Schecter 7-string for example, and, let's be honest, you paid too much for an 8-string, just to play Meshuggah. And I know what these racks do, thank you very much.
