    As a indigenous person that actually lives here, and has several people in my family that runs this race. I can say the horses are taken care throughout the process of choosing, training, and racing. Not just any horse can come down the hill, most come long bloodlines of Suicide race horses. It takes a lot of precautions and preparation and money invested into each horse.

    I had the best seat in the house at the 2012 Stampede - right inside the starting line at the edge of the hill. Unreal.

    Family tradition. Generations upon generations. Years upon years. Colville pride.

      There is no pride in beating the shit out of your pony. How many break thier legs or necks? They would never trear thier horses this way.

    For the people saying this is abuse... Horses weigh literally a ton....a ton. Being "hit" with a riding crop is literally not hurting them. It would be like a flick to us. It's just annoying and makes them run. So for most of you who dont actually deal with horses in your life, stop.

    • @davidgillstone5418
      @davidgillstone5418 5 років тому +12

      That's B.S. Yes horses feel the crop beating this shit out of them. They can feel a fly landing on them. Why would you beat a panicked horse trying to swim. The native people would never treat thier horses this way.

      @@davidgillstone5418 The native people would not treat their horses this way? I guess you don't know who Scott Abrahamson is. In fact nearly all the riders are Native Americans from the Colville. You're just another ignorant racist.

      I dont like watching it. I have horses and my dad uses the riding crop and I sometimes do to

      Horses have thinner skin and 10 times the nerve endings than humans do. It really does hurt them. Don’t start preaching that they have thick skin. That’s a lie.

      Hitting them is the least abusive part of this... making them tumble down a steep ass hill, thats fucking cruel.

      That doesn’t mean it isn’t cruel. How would you like it if someone sent you to your death for entertainment?

      @@morganritter9938 This is just an annual tradition our town has. I actually own a horse that was a 4 year champ and he isn't treated badly at all before we got him when he was run in the races. He is a very healthy horse so just so you know, we do treat the horses that race well. There are many horses that die but it is still just a simple tradition

      Just because you feed him and water him and walk him doesn’t mean this race isn’t horrible. Yes he has made it through a few races but who knows the next one could be his last he is lucky to have made it through those 4. I hope when you run him to death you finally realize how horrible this spot is.
