I once tried this game. After 2 weeks I gave up and decided to watch youtubers play it instead, and I laughed a lot more
I think the most overlooked fact of this game is, that it's not supposed to be a rage game.
It's supposed to be a relaxing experience to distract you from the real world. Now that may sound abolutely bizzare, but think about it for a second. Bennet Foddy is never rubbing it in when you fall, quite the opposite as a matter of fact. He is always understanding and careful about his selection of words. His calm voice is supplemented by the calming, euphoric jazz music. You see all these people playing and raging uncontrolably, taking Bennett's words as insulting and petty. That's because they're biased by rage and don't care what he's saying, regarding it as insulting.
Even the core premise of the game supports my comment. It's a grueling and challenging task, as most things in life sometime. The game's saving mechanic is brilliant. It saves everything and that means even your mistakes. When the player eventually falls and quits the game they're given a choice: you accept what happened with new will and come back to it, showing in the process you care somewhat about the game or you quit it forever with your mistake hanging over you for the test of your life.
If you every want to take a life lesson from this game you should play it everyday. I think this game's supposed to go like this: You start, spend some time on it and once you get frustrated you quit and come back a day after. Frustration hinders your performance, which then hinders your experience of this game from: "Wow, it's really relaxing!" to "This game is just another poorly done rage game."
Play a little everyday and once you get to the top you'll have a high satisfaction and you will receive the message of this game. Spoiler: The message is to never given up.
This was my take on the game so please go easy on me.
Edit: I actually realised that the title can be interpreted in two ways:
Getting over the mountain
or
Getting over your frustration and doubts.
