- The SoCal Sound In-Studio Session with Fontaines D.C. is brought to you by The SoCal Sound, CSUN & Saddleback College.
Join The SoCal Sound's Lesley James in conversation with Irish post-punk band Fontaines D.C.!
In the interview, Lesley chats with bassist Conor Deegan 'Deego' III & guitarist Conor Curley. When asked about winning NME's award for Best Band in the World, the pair joke about possibly using it to get street cred back in their hometown.
Deego & Curley discuss the new album 'Skinty Fia,' telling a funny story about the breakdown in the song "I Love You," their musical influences, how the record got its name, and its connection to Irish-speaking heritage. They recently relocated from their home base in Dublin to London to work on 'Skinty Fia;' Reflecting on how that's impacted them & the album; Deego remarked, "Well, we kind of became more displaced again from Irishness. Suddenly we're forced to confront our Irishness in a different way than if you lived in Dublin. Suddenly it was the thing that made us different, rather than the thing that brought us together with people; And being Irish in Britain is a very different experience, and that's a lot of what the record is about."
They also talk about dealing with mental health on the road while touring non-stop and the guilt that can come with confronting mental health struggles while living out their dream.
Make sure to listen to the entire interview to learn about what exciting new acts out of Ireland they recommend you check out!
This SoCal Sound In-Studio Session with Fontaines D.C. includes live performances of "Roman Holiday," "Nabokov," and "Skinty Fia."
You can catch Fontaines D.C. during their 2023 US tour with a stop at the Kia Forum on September 29 & 30!

props to the engineer who mixed this
Def, my immediate thoughts too. Plus, seems like a really good live recording job, probably also solid monitoring for the band. All in all, great sound this one, the band deserves nothing less
Best band in the world right now.
def top 5
Yea, well, that’s like your opinion, man
Without question…no equals…better and better, album after album
Steady on mate
best newer band for sure. red hot chili peppers are phenomenal live and still very relevant imo.
The guitar work on this track is sensational
Sound engineer needs a raise
I’m obsessed with these guys at the moment
Amazing songs, amazing sound
The fucking best band around. Have been sat on a ticket for 3 years now, having originally purchased for a pub gig here in Sydney but Covid scuppered that plan. Roll on 2023 when they finally get here.
Fave band at the mo. Three brilliant albums and I think the best is yet to come
Did you listen to the latest single “Starbuster”’? Totally banger
I will love this band forever.
As a proud 88.5 member, I’m glad you were able to have my favorite band on!
Fair play to the engineer.... This sounds so pumped up and muscular and I (almost) prefer to the album
Hi @Brianomalley
You have created making a fair to great Call, especially dabbling with the confused state of feed-back. I just wished to add that, I suppose also: There is so much, well so many People really involved. Ever important Beings amongst a successful Ge-Up Band. My recommended thoughts thank these vitals regularly .( " " " " " " " " " " " " ".( I thank also immensely; My, really the Irish influence.
PEACE. LOVE. RESPECT TRANQUILLITY. TASTEFULNESS ANTICIPATIVE REQUISITE.

Three great tracks. Looking forward to the UK and Irish tour coming up. 🤩
Fantastic!! I now need to watch this again… only on my big screen TV with the Sound bar!
Thanks to The SoCal Sound for turning me on to them a few years ago!!!

thanks dude!
You guys rule...............
Up the republic
Skinty fia 💚🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪 🦌👌👌👌
so tight
Drummer amazes me 😎
Wow
I love the song Roman holiday. They playing wayyy to fast here though. Yes I know it’s their song, but check the album it’s much slower. As a former drummer and guitarist in a band I know nerves can get you playing ahead of the beat.
I prefer the song the speed it is on the album. It’s a vibe, enjoy the ride.
I had to check and make sure I didn’t have the speed on youtube on 1.25 but nope it was normal.
Mint
Grian is Lip Gallagher (?)
Sunglasses indoor. Inherently rockstara
Very Liam Gallagher influenced vocals! Class guitar playing too.
Way more Ian Curtis then Liam imo
@@RubberPhili Look again.
Nah its deffo more joy division vibes from this
funny how the more famous artists become, the more rings they wear...
This woman. From "So. Cal".. is So. Embarrassing. She's got Upper Management written all over her..can she be anymore UNCOOL? Her over-announciating is painful.. they bore it well.
she needs to read? makes the interview sound so fake
They certainly look like they're not enjoying it these days. Should maybe just take a break from touring for a bit...
They always look like that
Kneecap are hilarious
Kneecap the interviewer..
