Good God, this is fantastic. I'd love to get the music and or a transcription of this rendition of c-jam blues...because iv'e been looking for a flute part like this for a while.
I do teach (...but I am located in Canada!...) BTW, James Galway has me as his resident Jazz Flute Specialist at his offical web site and for his Chat Group! Finally, you can find out a little more about me at MySpace. Sincerely, Bill McBirnie
@MrStravinsk I have been playing the flute since childhood. I worked very hard at classical music until my teens and then I basically dropped playing when I went to univerisity. I picked the flute again in my early twenties and then focused on learning how to improvise. By the way, if you go to MySpace, the last same recording there is a Brazilian tune entitled..."Tudo Bem"! (Thanks for listening!)
I know that it SOUNDS rather "bopish", Sergey. But both Oscar and I are working melodic figures that are ultimately based on old school "swing". (It's a rather subtle distinction, I know. But that is really what is going on!)
ahhh, this is what it is supposed to sound like, awesome! Someday I am going to burn my own CD with all this good stuff you are putting on line here Bill!
Love hearing a flutist that CAN swing! Having doubled on sax for years, I've always found that trying to swing on flute is sooooo much more difficult than swinging on some other instrument. I sometimes wonder if it's because we often tend to get caught up in the tone of our instrument.....like maybe it has something to do with the way we produce our sound that makes it trickier? :)
Hi Master Bill. Urgent question: I have bought a flute 4 months ago. I play the octaves up and down, throught singing while playing and all the good stuff. But one things drives me mad: I play the lowest C with all fingers on the buttons, but also the C one octave higher. This sounds better than the c which is played only with the index finger. My question: Can I stick to playing both low C's the same way or should I change? Thanks and greetings from Switzerland.
Thanks, but in the end, I'm simply "playing over" the track...and, in that sense, one could argue that I am "trampling" on what is a truly classic piece by OP...and that is precisely why I offer my qualification about this performance; i.e., "No disrespect is intended!" :-) Sincerely, Bill McBirnie
The recording that he has playing. His lips are not even in the correct embouchure and the flute is tilted at an angle which makes playing it impossible. Come on, guys!
It's fine for me to play from the ass, If it sounds like this, who cares what's the shape of the lips? And if he CAN play in fact, so how can you say it's impossible to play? Stupid comment.
It's me! (...Because who else could it possibly be?!... :-) I am not sure why the sound and the image is not precisely synced. And I admit that I know how to play the flute...but I did not know how to operate the camera!...
The flute can swingeth indeed!🧐👌
1:03 waaa what a legend tho...

Unfortunately, there is no transcription for this.because...it is entirely improvised!... :-)
@@svetamcbirnie903 just wow...looks like I got some work to do then.
Man, that doesn't just swing, it rocks!

OOH LA LA !! Good stuff!
Great playing. Isn't that a bop tune though?

Bill:
Swing so hard, as usual. I really enjoyed this!

Wow, I love to learn how to swing with a flute :)
...Always use the correct fingerings!...

damn cool!
LOL, ohhh yes you have proven the flute can swing, hahahaha.. Niiiice!!!
Yeah, i think that's it.
Même problème de synchro. J'aurais que tu joues sur un Abersold que sur un solo d'Oscar! Drôle d'idée!
It'not swing! it's jazz!
