    Hi....Nice Mulberry tree there. I have a Pakistani Mulberry and it is very sweet like you describe in the video. However, my fruit is way longer than the ones in this video. Starks brothers Nursery supplied me with my tree. It comes rooted in a small pot and starts to grow vigorously once it is planted in the ground. I got a couple of berries last year and this year I expect a more bountiful harvest of these delicious berries. They start to fruit in April here (Northern California).

    • @EdgeofNowhereFarm
      @EdgeofNowhereFarm  5 років тому

      Hey Jorden. We're wondering if it's actually a Black Pakistan, because we understand the fruit should be much larger like you're describing. It's amazing how well these produce and as they get older the harvest just multiplies. Truly amazing trees. Where are you in NorCal? April is much earlier than most of our mulberries here in AZ.

    That's not a Pakistan mulberry. It's not the first time Starkbros sent someone whatever they had in stock instead of what the customer ordered. I bought a tree on a standard rootstock from them once. They sent me a tree on a dwarf rootstock because they didn't have the standard and tried to tell me it was just mislabeled.

      @EdgeofNowhereFarm  3 роки тому

      Yeah, we know just how you feel with that. We had good luck with them prior to this tree they sent us. For the new farm we decided to order them from the Urban Farm to ensure we had the correct variety. I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt that it came that way from the grower, but I'm not too sure on that one.

    yeah buddy!!! i also ordered a dormant Pakistan mulberry tree, was approx 5.5 in tall and survived an unusually cold so. Cal winter, the tree is planted in a 15gl pot and is now about to reach 6 ft! I did not plant it in the ground due to the vigorous growth of the tree and space that it requires but I'm pleased with the progress. As far as the taste, it's satisfyingly sweet but have you ever tasted the white shahtoot mulberry?! bloody hell. man it is so incredibly sweet it's hard to eat - perhaps the sweetest fruit I have ever tasted

      Hey SterlingScreencasts. Great question. So we water all of our trees essentially the same. With 3, 4gph drip emitters that we run for 3 hours 3X/week during the summer. However, our mulberries are right next to our berry beds, so they definitely get the benefit of additional water from those as well as our pasture which is not far from them either.

    So do you generally harvest 3rd week of June every year? Because we have a black Pakistani 2nd year in the ground and no Mulberries yet....All of our other mulberry trees dwarf and shsngrila have tons of berries but zero on the Blacks....any info would be great

    • @EdgeofNowhereFarm
      @EdgeofNowhereFarm  2 роки тому

      This is a great question and it seems to vary a bit. We have new Black Pakistanis (2nd year in the ground) that are fruiting now and ripening as well. Same goes for our Shangri La and Everbearing. However, the Persian mulberries tend to fruit a bit later in our experience. In fact, we're pretty certain the mulberry in this video is actually a Persian variety as it always puts on fruit much later. It also took a couple of years before it put on fruit. We have been burned from nurseries on mislabeling many times with mulberries and you may be running up against the same. I hope I'm wrong, but it may be the case.

    I planted a Pak mulberry in March and it was just a stick. Now in August it has huge leaves and the green branches are as big as the trunk in diameter and very long. I'm afraid the trunk may not support them or they may tear off with the winds. Should I prune and shorten the branches now?

    • @EdgeofNowhereFarm
      @EdgeofNowhereFarm  5 років тому

      Hey Sheri. Mulberry trees here in AZ grow very rapidly and can usually take some abuse. If you think the branches are going to break you can definitely take them back with some pruning. They'll still have plenty of time in the fall to flush out new growth and heal over. Then definitely need to prune real well in the winter to give them space to take off again next year!

    • @EdgeofNowhereFarm
      @EdgeofNowhereFarm  6 років тому +1

      Hey David. Impressive growth is cool to watch. As for timing on the fruit, we've had 4 of our 6 give us fruit and the Black Pakistan was the latest to set (also 2nd to last out of dormancy), but all of them have given us fruit in the spring/summer. I believe the Shangri La tried to set fruit in the fall, but none of it took. So I"m assuming it's a spring/summer producer for us. As for your volunteers, I think I would give them 1 more year. But we've had fruit on all of our trees that are at least 2 years old.

      Really Ky might as well be a different planet when compared to AZ.
      I have always said i couldnt imagine feeling "at home" living in a desert bc im too use to eveything being green and wildlife everywhere.
      Shipping cuttings is a piece of cake.
      Either once the tree has gone dormant for the winter or early spring before the tree has began to leaf out is when the cuttings are harvested.
      Once you have your cuttings ready, to keep them fresh wrap them in a damp news paper or paper towels and then into a zip lock bag.
      Most people use those yellow/orange color envelopes from the post office that have bubble wrap already lined inside it.
      But I have also received cuttings in a tiny little 2''x7'' box with plastic for cushion and there was no issues with the shipping
      I just mailed a check back and reimbursed him for the shipping and supplies.
      I would just buy one but room for a new tree would be hard to make. Im after cuttings so i can graft them to 2 existing mulberry trees in my yard and also hopefully graft a branch onto a potted ever-bearing mulberry i have.
