- Today I show you how to remove a Intake Manifold on a 1.6 1990 Mazda Miata!
The process is overall pretty simple but one thing to look out for is the coolant that come out when the intake manifold is removed! Make sure to have a pan under your car to catch the extra coolant that falls out!
Step 1: Start off by removing the throttle body cable. It is pretty easy just twist the throttle body and take the cable out the side.
Step 2: remove the intake tube which is held on by a clamp and also a hose underneath to the left.
Step 3: remove the air solenoid on the top of the intake manifold held on by 4 8mm bolts.
Step 4: remove the fuel rail. There are two bolts holding it down and also two lines you will have to disconnect from the regulator and also the rail itself.
Step 5: Once all of this is taken off begin to loosen the 9 bolts connecting the intake manifold to the engine block. MAKE SURE TO PUT A PAN UNDERNEATH TO CATCH COOLANT!!!
Step 6: remove any misc hoses still attached to manifold.
AND YOUR DONE!! As simple as that!
I hope this helped you guys out! If it did make sure to hit that like button and subscribe for more Miata content!

guys if you do this PLEASE remember to take off your gas cap...... the fuel system will stay pressurized even after the car is off if you drove it recently, and it will cause massive amounts of fuel to continuously leak out of your fuel lines when you take the rail off.......
Very good video. I’m about to pull my intake manifold off of my ‘90, and your tutorial provided me a lot of good info, and prepared me to knock it out. Thanks!
Love finding the exact specific video I need to watch to replace my intake manifold gasket
Glad you posted that. I was going to pull mine off to make it easier to get to the starter for removal. Doing an engine pull. But after seeing how involved it is, I'll pass, and work around and under it to get to the starter bolts. I've got a '93 1.6 with a leaking oil pump. That's one of the things you can't fix with the engine in the car since the oil pan has to come off.
Yeah it’s a major pain in the ass. Really wonder why Mazda has the Intake connect to the coolant.
@@kys_garage898 I'm doing a head gasket on a 90 na. Coolant lines into the intake threw me off 😂 I still can't figure out why
Nice how to video. 👍
If I drain the coolant first will it reduce how much comes out or will there still be a tonne sitting in there?
I can’t tell you for certain but I’d assume that if you drain some out first it wouldn’t be as bad.
It'd help but you'll still be showered, just a bit less
Okay so idk if anyone will see this but the thing that has 4 8mm bolts what lines are plugging into that right there? It would really help
