Great review as always! It's nice to have a real-life perspective, and Andrea does a great job too! I think you have some competition in your own family :P
I finally test drove a 2019 Tiguan earlier this week and was definitely underwhelmed. Not nearly as comfy as my Passat, not as spacious as I thought it would be, and noticeably slow with only one engine available! They were trying to sell me on it at the dealership, but I had to decline.
This new Tiguan seems to be multiplying at a fast pace here in Montréal and funny enough, every single one i have seen has been the fully loaded one! I've compared the pricing online and it's only 50$-60$/month more expensive than the mid trim so I can see why people might wanna pay a bit more for so many goodies! I must say, the ultra - bright DRLs give it a very statutory and premium look and it's a shame the LED lights are only available in top trim! Great review Zack and Andrea, keep em coming!
Just bought one last week, fully loaded. I totally agree with Zack, it is not underpowered at all, especially with the sport mode. Overall it is an awesome product.
Bowei Ju Yeah I got a Tiguan too. It's great! It's very popular in Europe too. I spent all day test driving many cars that day and the Tiguan beat them all in my opinion, better handling, smoother ride, faster brakes. I couldnt believe alot of people gave high marks to the Toyota RAV 4, which drove like a truck and was not reaponsive. VW Tiguan is much better a vehicle.
i think the perception that its underpowered its because even car reviewers complete dismiss the extremely important fact that the brand has been very aggressive on evolving their chassis to be lighter, despite being a more stronger chassis even if it is light
Cannot agree with you any more than i do. My wife's father works at Toyota and we would have had a really good price... but i hated that RAV, and bought a Tiguan which we love.
Cannot wait to have mine was supposed to receive it on the 14th September but the earthquakes in Mexico caused a delay and let's not forget the many hurricanes. I am quite happy that I chose that same colour.
Nice to see and hear a very objective view from a woman/wife point of view. Andrea seemed so open to the cars pluses and small minuses. Well done to you both.
i have the 2018 tiguan highline with orange trim and its sweet. looks and feels like a luxury suv and drives nicely. now its slow as heck to reach 100km/h but you dont buy it for the speed. its a mature family outing vehicle with tons of room in the back seats. im 6ft 350 pounds and i fit in the back seat easily and still have room to stretch out a bit.
Hi Zack, I was just thinking that I've been watching your content since 2006 (Driving Television with Dagmar Midcap), when UA-cam hardly existed. Thanks for all the great reviews over the years. (I also enjoy your channel on watches.)
Hi Zack & Andrea - great format, great review guys - but I don't think that car had DCC, as we know it in Europe (Dynamic Chassis Control)...! DCC is available on Europe Tiguans (I recommend it!). DCC gives you adjustable damper settings: 'Comfort' for a softer ride, 'Normal' for, err, a normal ride, a 'Sport' setting for firmer dampers and ride, and an 'Individual' setting where you can customise the spring rate/steering feel/trans response/ACC reaction/etc etc... (interestingly Europe Tiguans get all the safety kit as standard from base model up). All the best.
gordon bennett US/Canada models get less of anything that could possibly become unreliable. Americans and Canadians want reliable cars so VW had to cut some of the BS they offer on euro models.
More power doesn't necessarily means faster acceleration, you need to factor in the car's weight, transmission, and aerodynamic! According to Car & Driver's tests, this Tiguan is noticeably slower than most compact SUVs in this price range such as Subaru Forester 2.0t, Kia Sportage SX, Chevy Equinox 2.0t, Hyundai Tucson 1.6t, Honda CR-V 1.5t, Mazda CX-5 2.5, Ford Escape 2.0, Mitsubishi Outlander V6, Toyota RAV4 2.4 & Hybrid, Dodge Journey V6, GMC Terrain V6, and Nissan Rogue!
Hi Zack, thanks for another great video! I'm thinking between the Tiguan and the Outback. Do you think the 2.5i Outback is underpowered for the roads in BC? The 3.6R is definitely more powerful but the eyesight feature I want is only available on the higher trim of the 3.6R, which makes it very expensive.
Great review! Zack, I drive a 2008 forrester which has been good to us - but 2 growing kids and a golden retriever. I Test drove a new Hylander last weekend. It was beautiful, but it felt really large for me. Probably something I would get used to. I just saw this review and wondered if the VW would be a better fit for me. I’m also considering a Subaru outback. Any advice? The third row is not imperative, but as your wife said, sometimes it’s a nice option in a pinch. We live in Maple Ridge, and spend lots of time on the gulf Islands, so all wheel drive is a must. I’m a bit torn. I’d narrowed down test drives to highlander & outback ...but, this looks good and maybe easier transition! Or do I just get used to larger feel and go with highlander 😬😀. Great review!
Good review, really appreciate the female/mom perspective! Still, it would’ve been nice if they would’ve walked around the car more and shown all the features in detail. I don’t think they even mentioned the panoramic sunroof! Even so, nice feedback and what felt like honest takes on what they really thought about it.
The digital dash is awesome but not so sure if it is a good idea to have that if you off road a lot. Would hate to have that break down in the middle of no where.
Hello 👋. A lot of great information here. I wish you would’ve spent more time showing the 3rd row. That’s why I clicked on to your video 🤦♀️. I would’ve love to have seen: 1.) Views of the back (3rd row) seats. 2.) 3rd row seat views from the inside. 4.) Either of you actually sitting in the 2nd or 3rd row seats to get a good idea of leg room.
We drove it back t back with an Alltrack. Its very spacious and from a practical sense a fantastic choice. I found the interior a mixed bag with a lot of cheap materials, rear seat is too flat, and its a level or two below the Alltrack. The Alltrack is far and away the nicest vehicle in its price range or go even lower to a Golf wagon and wow, what a family car for most people. It could use some minor improvements but THIS is the vehicle VW should Electrify ASAP. Not the BUS a Tiguan. Q-Tron looking like 2X the price of a base Q5 is way out of range for sensible car owners and most Canadians
The MQB is more of a standard of arranging things on a chassis (Front wheel drive, transversely mounted engine) than the chassis itself. In this respect the Tiguan is actually based on the MQB A2 platform, the same as the Passat not the Golf. The T-ROC is based on the Golf (MQB A1).
The previous version was too small for US preferences. It sold very poorly here. The new version is actually still quite small. It is classified as a compact SUV.
FYI. Any engine that is supported by a variable geometry turbo charger which this one is, is not power effected altitude. The VG turbo will more than compensate for any air density variables. Good video though on a family perspective rather than a sales or YT tester perspective.
Great job Andrea. Zack give your wife a little more time to speak as you kinda took over that video. I really like the look of this vehicle and have no need for a third seat. Good work VW.
In the U.S., VW upped the bumper-to-bumper warranty for their CUVs to 6 years or 72,000 miles (or 115,873 km). And just recently expanded to virtually all 2018 models except the CC, e-Golf and probably another model. So VW essentially double the warranty. So with the longer warranty, I would seriously put a VW on the top of my shopping list. Did VW expanded the warranty in Canada?
The problem is most problems come after 90,000 miles and used car buyers know that and add in VW poor record on reliablity and well it is a lose lose. Also even if something goes out during warranty coverage ...getting them to agree it is their fault and not yours can be a fight.
Well sorry to tell u this, i just got a recall notice on my Tiguan, says the ambient roof lighting due to humidity??? Can cause the module to catch fire! So if u haven’t been notified yet im telling you. Dont put ur family in the car!! It hasnt been on the news, only notifying owners threw the mail. They claim theres no current repair yet. There telling me to bring it in to disconnect the system. So ur roof can catch fire! With ambient lighting. If u own one u will be notified threw the mail, which i think should be on the news. But is wat it is dont put ur family in the car or open the roof, humidity can start a fire!!
I have a 2019 in the higher trim level than what they are showing here. (SEL Premium R-Line) I'd say its in between cause its a couple inches longer than the Audi Q5. I wouldn't recommend the 3rd row seats though unless you're planning on transporting lots of really small kids.
I see alot of ppl saying how unreliable vw is and german junk etc, are they really that bad compared to the rest long term? What are the problems is it engines/transmission build quality?
I've owned 2 BMW's and just got the compact Tiguan used. I love German engineering, never had problems with the BMWs. Too new to tell how the VW will fair but so far so good. Alot of people will comment negatively just because they are negative IMO and say they had friends that had German cars etc that broke down, but no first hand experience.
Drove Audi a3 for years, and now have a passat, engine drive train never an issue, i did have the occasional electrical problem. I dod follow the service plan by the book, something most people do not do and will create problems over time, german cars have a service plan for a reason. Most engines have a turbo, after driving sporty let it run for it to cool a bit longer, your turbo will thank you. My highlander has to go in every 5000 miles, my vw every 10000 miles. Look at european brake tests, German cars and ford as well topped those ratings over kia, hyundai toyota etc, vw managed to have a van outperform the kia suvs. In my location i do like the way toyota does service, it is faster, it is like a service factory, vw dealer takes more time, but like i said both my cars are dependable and i take care of them.
I've never understood why people love power tailgates so much. My car has it but I have the feature turned off. The motor is slower than just letting the struts lift it. I don't have arms full of groceries enough to really utilize or appreciate the feature.
The Tiguan has the fastest tailgate I've seen and it has an option where you can press the button while youre getting stuff out of the back and then it will close automatically when you walk away.
Sadly it's now much too big. I much preferred the shorter wheelbase versions. I never got one of those as the premium fuel requirement seems to create an unnecessary expense for the owner.
It’s looks are deceiving. It’s a compact SUV. It’s very small inside and out for USA standards. The small, quirky old generation model sold very poorly here. USA buyers prefer larger, roomier vehicles. Which is why cars in the USA are not selling well.
4:05. Elevation does not effect the power output of a variable geometry turbo engine. This little engine is going to be able to make the same power in Denver as it does in Tampa. The VG turbo is way more than capable of overcoming any air density losses from elevation.
Very interested but concerned it is underpowered. A VR6 (or the GTI engine) would help out a lot. Lugging 4400 pounds or so with a 4 cylinder gas powerplant seems like it is doomed to be a dog. In Europe most people have torquey diesels in these rigs.
I really wanted to like the CRV, but they seem to get uglier inside and out each year. It's like every year is a competition to make their car look more like a spaceship rather than a well designed stream lined car. For me it was tight between the RAV4, CX-5 and Tiguan. Tiguan won in the end based for the 3rd row seat and interior and exterior finish for me.
I like this style of video for a car review. It's nice to get something different
Love my '19 tiguan sel premium 4motion...good handling, decent power, roomy interior, quiet and smooth ride and great gas mileage ❤😊
Love you guys, great dynamic and channel!
You two are great. I love your presentation skills. Informative and fun to listen to.
I bought a 2019 in April and love it more everyday! And I drove all the competition!
I just picked up a 2019 Tiguan Comfortline and it has the power liftgate as standard. Love it so far!
Hi Zack. Tiguan looks great. Love this type of review. Thanks.
great video, loved the duo
I just got one two days ago ad I love it
Drea came a long way from this review! Kudos, for having such a great content!
Very nice idea. Good to see a more humane review. Congrats!!!
Great review as always! It's nice to have a real-life perspective, and Andrea does a great job too! I think you have some competition in your own family :P
Zack! Thank you. I’ve been looking for a new VW. I have the old Touareg. When she said it feels like a VW I was sold.
I finally test drove a 2019 Tiguan earlier this week and was definitely underwhelmed. Not nearly as comfy as my Passat, not as spacious as I thought it would be, and noticeably slow with only one engine available! They were trying to sell me on it at the dealership, but I had to decline.
Heated rear seats must've been a nice touch, but it's still fine. Nice review as always! Thanks for info:)

Bowei Ju it is compared to the 2017, it's nowhere near as zippy.
Cannot wait to have mine was supposed to receive it on the 14th September but the earthquakes in Mexico caused a delay and let's not forget the many hurricanes. I am quite happy that I chose that same colour.
Man, The Boss is such a winner. Smart, attractive, funny, stylish. She adds a lot to the reviews.
Nice to see and hear a very objective view from a woman/wife point of view. Andrea seemed so open to the cars pluses and small minuses. Well done to you both.
I’m getting one tomorrow 😍 so excited
Mustafa Bader How’s it going so far?
Thanks for another informative review.
The only thing I can say is the rough take off is the only thing that's questioned about this car other than that. I love this new Tiguan.
Another great review! Keep up the good work!!
Drove one, nice car, turbo-lag off the line is horrendous, even in sport mode.Handles great!!
Nice and good review 💯

Hi guys,
Great video, do you think this is in the same class as the Volvo xc40?
Great review! Looks like a very good practical SUV. I like the touchscreen dash and inside roominess.
Under A Twilight Sky you don’t know much about cars do you.
Jake Pussmeister I didn’t kid but you probably did

Very nice VW, great review!
I love your videos😇😘😙😚💟💞😉☺😊😂😁💝😄😍😏so much and for ever and ever
Love you
Would you still buy one after it's been on the market for few months? And would you buy one over the BMW X1?
What about the DCT transmission? Is it reliable? Is ir fragile? It work well in traffic jam?
There is a small struggle when accelerating that you did not feel after stop and go, I felt this and other reviews as well found that
Beautiful vw

This was a short review but I drove the new Tiguan and I agree with everything Andrea said. I thought this Tiguan was made in the new Q5 factory.
Serge Vivier no... all made in Mexico. I have a 2019.
Good dynamic. Better than infomercials.
Always better to the better half's view.

The Highlander is big but the Outback is a solid choice, as you know they have amazing resale. I suggest you try the VW out for yourself and see.
Disappointed VW/Audi decided to go with faux exhaust outlets on Tiguan and Q5.
What they are behind on, is fuel efficiency. Thanks totally to the high kerb weight
Regarding power delivery, remember that the tiguan, is the heaviest vehicle in its class...😮😊
Thank you!!
She reminds me of Amanda Salas- love seeing her point of view :D!
Not sure if I like the Tiguan, but I'm definitely diggin that Lacoste jacket. lol!
Im sure your wife has heard this before, she looks and sounds just like Madonna :) Nice review guys.

The digital dash is awesome but not so sure if it is a good idea to have that if you off road a lot. Would hate to have that break down in the middle of no where.

I like the review but you didn’t mention the price even though in vw site it shows prices the dealerships sale way higher plus long waiting list!
great review; but if it's made in Mexico, would it now have extra tariffs? oh oh, all of the sudden even more expensive; still a great choice.
It's very nice.
ls there a way to buy a Vollkswagen Tiguan installment.
I loved the previous Tiguan. Too big now, just bought a Q3 instead.
The previous version was too small for US preferences. It sold very poorly here. The new version is actually still quite small. It is classified as a compact SUV.

is it possible to install a baby car seat to the 3rd row in this Tiguan?

VW has for year had a standard 4-year warranty in Canada, matching premium brands like Audi and BMW. No news on the 6-year deal.
review the Stelvio Quadrifoglio, put it in Sport, Sport + or whatever, and tell you wife to floor it lol
Oh first video that I came across that is from British Columbia.
Not true. Power tailgate isn’t only available on the top trim. The SEL and SEL premium both have it.
Saw it at the auto show this week, size is perfect, design is clean and very German, but the steering wheel is so skinny compare to other brands.
is the LED lights standard on all strims.?thanks
No just in the SEL Premium and SEL Premium R-Line trims.
Power couple!
What about the Nissan Murano? I think it’s the best crossover hands down in the market today!
Angel Diaz no I drove one for 3 weeks and didn’t care for it
When is Honda going to drop the new s2k?
184hp? In Brazil we have 240hp option (it's quite expensive)
Is this a compact SUV or midsize? Or somewhere in between?
I have a 2019 in the higher trim level than what they are showing here. (SEL Premium R-Line) I'd say its in between cause its a couple inches longer than the Audi Q5. I wouldn't recommend the 3rd row seats though unless you're planning on transporting lots of really small kids.
Gordon it’s compact but doesn’t feel small I just bought one!
Can it be compared to a CRV?
Will the 3rd row seat be okay for adults in a pinch?
No, its really just for small kids.
Did not get autonomous braking brakes for signs and leaves blowing in the room
