The day before my mother passed away, I got her a sugar free Junior’s Cheesecake. Her eyes lit up when I presented it to her. She was so happy. I’m glad she had a good meal before she left us.
Junior's family owners were offered like $70 million for that property WITH a promise to let them return the restaurant to the ground floor after construction of a new tower was complete. In the end they said NO, they could not bare to close and destroy the original location. That's real love and dedication for your brand and customers!!
That’s the main trait of true NY style cheesecakes, they’re very dense and not for everyone which is why a lot of people actually do not like NY cheesecake. If you want light and fluffy, go to Eileen’s in Lower Manhattan.
Agreed. Junior's sets the standard for classic NY-style cheesecake. Italian or German cheesecakes will be much lighter and less rich, and I love those too. NY cheesecake definitely isn't for everyone, but for a born and bred NYer, it's what we think of first when we think cheesecake.
In hindsight, it might teach him how other people have to live when they can't use one hand to cut things. I like this. Sort of a lesson without being a lesson . I'm one of those people who can't use their other hand and try to find different ways to make up for it.
I work in downtown brooklyn. You have to try Mile End Delicatessen just a few blocks away from Junior’s. Their corn beef reuben is delicious and it’s an entire sandwich for 17 bucks. You can have it on rye, pumpernickel or anything you want. It’s one of the better places I’ve discovered while having lunch in the area.
@@HerrBrutal-bl2fk why would you compare corn beef to mcdonald's? It costs around 18 bucks a pound to buy it cold cut, unless you buy it in bulk. Next you're gonna tell me not to order steak 'cause I could've had a bag of takis instead.
17 bucks for a Reuben even in downtown brooklyn is not a bargain for that area. 14 bucks is decent and 10-12 would be a steal but I wouldn't put "entire sandwich" in front of 17 bucks for a Reuben sando. I'm born and raised in Brooklyn and live walking distance from that spot but have never been. How's the motzoh ball soup at mile end? Hi UA. I like Junior’s. It is always consistent. To me lighter fluffy cheesecake is less pure flavor. So iconic is this place. They used to make the cheesecake on premises and in Queens. They opened up the factory in Jersey and ship to stores all the country and are available on Goldbelly. Thanks man.
UA, NYC cheesecake is supposed to be Dense, you want light and fluffy? Cheesecake factory is waiting for ya! Light and fluffy means they skimped on the cream cheese and whipped it too much to add air to it so they keep overhead costs down. No bueno.
I think that’s an overly cynical view to say that making a fluffy cheesecake is to save money. Like UA, I also think a light fluffy cheesecake is just better. That’s why I don’t like NY style.
Cheesecake factory is just really heavy on the gelatine, which is why it has such a gross texture, like solid pudding. It's not really the whipping, which I think also makes for a nice cheesecake.
I patronized my home town of Brooklyn Junior's location many times and recently visit the Manhattan locations when I commute into NYC. The pastrami sandwich is normally a bit thicker than yours and is excellent. The cheese cake, and the crust may I add, is also excellent and the various toppings are all great. New Yorkers are used to "cream" cheese cake which is a little thicker than you may be used to.
Junior's has a sandwich combo that is incredible. Corned beef on one sandwich and pastrami on another. They are served on an, ONION ROLL. Yes I know. I was dubious too since it wasn't rye but it's amazing. Nothing like hitting Junior's in midtown after a Sunday Broadway matinee. It's one of the great New York experiences. UA I love your videos. I used to drive from the North Bronx to Juniors just to get a cheese cake. I miss it so much. All their food is great, but that cheesecake is addictive!
I have had Junior's cheesecake, and it is nothing special. The best cheesecake I have ever had was from the Pompton Queen in Pompton Plains, New Jersey. It is dense, smooth, and creamy. Besides that, anything from this diner is exceptional. I would definitely give it a try.

Thank heaven someone agrees itith me. Junior's cheese cake is nothing more than cream cheese held together with liquid nail. At one time, many years ago, Junior's cheesecake was outstanding. But in the past 10 years, it's gotten bad. The best cheesecake I ever ate was in a little Italian restaurant in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, PA.; it was creamy and moist, light but so rich, and no ricotta used. This cheese cake puts Juniors to shame.
You can’t tell Junior fans anything that would change their mind lol, but I have learned that New York style cheesecake really is dense, I’ve been to many bakeries throughout the city and the thick texture is the signature so it comes down to preference which everyone has the right to have, I personally prefer my spoon to sink right through the cheesecake and melt in my mouth instead of my exercising my jaw muscle Fluffy cheesecake does not necessarily mean it’s lower quality and less rich, it’s all the science and some people have it down packed, some people don’t If anyone lives in the Central Florida area and begs to differ, stop by my shop 😁
Eventhough the cheesecake looks great, the cake has definitely been processed from the cheesecake factory that Junior's i believe has since it ships nationwide. This is probably why it was a bit colder than maybe. Ultimately I think junior's is a good place but yeah there are other places that specialize on bringing the NY cheesecake to the forefront.
Your Gallaghers looked like a strawberry or raspberry sauce cheesecake where here you got the plain one so not quite the Apples to apples comparison. Cool video though!
Another great review UA! I worked in this area as a Paramedic for a time, and we would grab food there now and again. My mom would call me and ask if I was working Brooklyn that tour, and she'd have me bring a cheesecake home for them! They are dense... 1 cake weighs about 40 lbs 😂 but, they are delicious!
Great review as always! I know you were primarily going to try the pastrami/the deli but in terms of cheesecakes, I find that Eileen's makes the best cheesecakes in NYC (although sometimes a little softer than most cheesecakes and the portions are MUCH smaller). (I know desserts the way you know pastrami :)
I agree with you. It is a good cheesecake but there are better. My uncle likes Juniors and brings it to my house for the holidays. I live in Queens, NY and there is a local cheesecake place called Cascon which is excellent and better.

Gotta love that ditty 🎶🎶🎵
Please come back though. Don’t leave. Don’t
A Jewish deli in NYC. What a rare find
I’ve been to that location, and only that location. I thought it was overrated…
yes i love the cheesecake dense....not too creamy
You can’t tell Junior fans anything that would change their mind lol, but I have learned that New York style cheesecake really is dense, I’ve been to many bakeries throughout the city and the thick texture is the signature so it comes down to preference which everyone has the right to have, I personally prefer my spoon to sink right through the cheesecake and melt in my mouth instead of my exercising my jaw muscle
Fluffy cheesecake does not necessarily mean it’s lower quality and less rich, it’s all the science and some people have it down packed, some people don’t
If anyone lives in the Central Florida area and begs to differ, stop by my shop 😁
Juniors opened a restaurant in Boca Raton Florida with lots of fanfare. Sadly it closed about a year later.
Why are you squeezing your eyes shut when eating?
Aww he was happy 😆
(I know desserts the way you know pastrami :)
is the mustard strong or are you just too weak for the mustard. lol usually having something to cut through the fat and grease is good.
Cheesecake is supposed to be like that!, the fluffy style shouldn’t be called cheesecake in my opinion. You are completely wrong lol
Hawks Moore British Steakhouse NYC
Mustard = vinegar, which helps offset the fattiness of the meat.
try the strawberry cheesecake next time the strawberries are gigantic
I wanted a cheesecake review. My recommendation is the Whole Foods plain whole cheesecake for $20.
1st 👍! Hi UA!
Put some seasoning in soup
I agree with you. It is a good cheesecake but there are better. My uncle likes Juniors and brings it to my house for the holidays. I live in Queens, NY and there is a local cheesecake place called Cascon which is excellent and better.
UA sure what you’re expecting for the price of cheesecake. Those prices are very much what everyone charges now.
