I have an f75 which is quirky in that all the film winds out when you load it and counts down with each shot. It's very light and accurate. I use it with a 35mm f2 Huonghu lens
I have a Nikon N50 and just got an N90 body. Actually prefer the N50. Only issue is that the only lens that is the only lens I really can use is the 50mm f1.8. Have 35 and 85 mm AF. they fit and look compatible but I say they are intendefed for digital.
So here are two cameras you need to test out. The bronica S2A and the second is the Widelux F Series. I have both ant d they are very neat cameras. Love my S2A and the Widelux is a neat panoramic camera that is fixed focus, has only 3 shutter speeds and aperture from f2.8 to f11.
Good review, I got one for £30 because I wanted the 28-70mm lens, so almost like a free camera or a free lens in the deal. A very capable camera, yes cheap and cheerful but a terrific camera and lens combinations.
Or for even less money you could get a Canon EOS 500 (known as the "Kiss" or "Rebel XS" in some markets due to Canon"s stupid naming conventions) and shoot with any of the 100's of EF series lenses including current "L" versions for some really good results.
Cool -- post more results, especially with a better lens. What film did you use (a Portra?)? I have an F100 and it's pretty complex for this old rangefinder/box-camera/1960's SLR shooter -- but it was handy at at the beach last year on vacation with my daughters and grandson. Did not have to mess with a light meter, focusing and such. Thank you!!!
These cameras were great, and much tougher than they looked. Compared to previous FEs and even the EM they seemed cheaply made, but they worked well. I had an F50, and it worked perfectly for years. Unfortunately I lent it to somebody I trusted and never saw it again. While the kit zooms were rather poor, the camera will fit the earlier manual lenses. A series E 50mm f1.8 is cheap and produces great results.
No flash socket, no problem. Put an adapter such as the Nikon AS-15 or the Kaiser 1300 in the hot shoe. The Kaiser is cheaper, and has a cold shoe on the top, which the Nikon does not. Both are readily available. No remote release, more of an issue. Nikon have gone through the original cable release as used on the F, the standard tapered thread one as used on the Fa, then went to two pin electrical release as on the F-501 then ten pin controller as on the F90X then a small rectangular socket, as on my Df. Finally there’s the ML-L3 wireless infra red controller as used by various low end digital cameras. I have a whole box full of various cables and adapters for use with various cameras, but to have no remote release seems to be unfortunate. A problem with some of the Nikon F models is the rubber coating which turns to sticky black goo after a few year#. I don’t know if the F55 has this, the F50 and F90 both do while the older series with model numbers ending in 01 do not. I prefer the non-professional Nikon cameras to the professional ones: the little FG is one of my favourites.
I've recently got an F55 from my grandpa, as I've started to shoot on film again, but with a Smena Symbol. There was a mostly used, cheap, and long expired film in it, I've shot that last 10 just to see what's on the rest. Well, those last shots were quite grainy and a bit faint in colours, but I guess that's mostly because of the expired nature of the film. I liked the result though, as I'm into making unperfect pictures with an oldschool atmosphere. The rest of the pictures were much better quality though. But I don't know, it's just a bit boring to use it, at least in automatic mode. It's exactly like shooting in digital, just with less shots possible. And I'm not nearly experienced enough to use the manual modes, as I'm probably not more professional than a group of Japanese experts. So I think I'll keep using my trusty old Smena, at least for B&W film, as it's more fun to shoot with, when I can manually measure light and set everything up accordingly, and it makes quite good pictures. Maybe I'll try some more colourful themes with the Nikon, but I mostly shoot things that look better in B&W. We'll see.
Really, i went form a Hasselbad 501 (which was dads) to the D70 because i was poor and couldn't afford film or good scanning, But i still have nightmares, even now
I have an F55 that I bought mostly for the lens attached. It really is just like using a basic DSLR, but dare I say it, it is a bit boring. Gets the job done but without much enjoyment, and I much prefer a more traditional SLR for film photography.
The best, cheap SLR with Autofocus (well, "best" into that term - everybody sees something different for her/his own needs) is the F75/N75. It was the last Nikon SLR, does have all Features one would need, but the smaller Pentamirror OVF, no bright all glass Pentaprism, like F80/N80, but it comes without the "sticky" Backside, like usually the F80/N80 and especially F100 is usually being plagued, because of the adheasive, which is vaporizing from the material, thus making the backside become sticky, which is awful. /edit One can get rid of this, whileas rubbing it clean (for some time...) with for instance 90% isopropanol, isopropyl alcohol, but it comes at a cost...the backside looks after this "threadment" really dull, not shiny anymore. Fun fact...i received both my F75 and F80 for a hell less than 50 bucks, each. Extraordinary model.
@@olitography Yes, you can read the 6 Parts from Hamish Grill - from 35mmc about his F75 Experience. I must say, besides the small, dim-lit pentaprism OVF, i am fine with that little SLR, with AF. Even i like to shoot my manual focus SLRs more, but the Nikon gets the job done, and is way cheap.
@@olitography Hi Oli, you can also put the 28-70/3.5-4.5D in front, really better than the 28-100 AF-D. The F55/N55 could being bought for literally 5 EUR, but prices are little more than last month now.....beware from a serial defect, which rendered the F55/N55 into a full manual focus SLR, because suddenly AF wasn't working anymore - Nikon had bad into its day a Service Issue stated, where the Camera must being sent back for repairs. Of course - nevermore, into 2021....and nobody would pair the repair price, but just buying another one for a few bucks...
This is my first 35mm camera, I bought it about 18 years ago. I'm still keeping this one like new.
my first camera was a nikon N75. its the camera that got me into photography

This is the best site about photography I've found so far. Just perfect.
Thank you

I like what you did there, covering ALL bases :)

That might be the answer i have been investigating

Totally agree
You can use the new Nikon g primes on this. Super sharp, with fast aperture

I’m in Tokyo right now, my FG and YASHICA came with me, that’s all I can say about that right now
Me: want to watch the photos in good quality (1080p)
My WiFi: nonononono...
Bad WiFi is the curse of modern man
I just got this camera from my parents, they bought it in early 2000's, it's probably older than my brother. I think I'm in for a lot of fun.
Good luck with it, if you can try to put a good lens on it
@olitography It has nikon af nikkor 28-80mm 1:3.3-5.6g from the kit, but definitely needs a clean up on the lenses.
Nice pictures . Which flash and remote flash trigger are you using? Is TTL
No TTL just Bowen’s 250 head on a Calumet trigger,

It is a good camera for beginners
Is it compatible with DX Nikkor lenses?
Did you process the film?
My first DSLR was one step up from a potato - the D70s - the s made ALL the difference ;) I still have it, it's worthless but holds happy memories.
Really, i went form a Hasselbad 501 (which was dads) to the D70 because i was poor and couldn't afford film or good scanning, But i still have nightmares, even now
Will I be able to put my new Nikon f mount lenses on it
i think so yeah. it just might not be able to take advantage of vibration rediction

Is there a prime lens suitable for this camera? ideally 50mm? if you know?
All Nikon lenses will fit, so you can choose,
Hey My Nikons F55 is showing the message ERR after I put in my film- I tried cleaning the inside of the lens but still no good! Any other tips?
A quick google search indicated there may be problem with the wind on motor

Thanks Marc, truth be told, ive not used early 2000s slr I really liked, but I’ll try an F75/N75 at some point

I think F75 would be a better choice for this purpose because it has much better feature sets and is just as cheap.
Thanks I’ll look into that
Spiffy hair.
