As an automotive enthusiast, I always appreciate when folks drive their cars for what thy are meant for 👏👏
Ernesto Rijavec Thanks!😉👍
Looks like a fun trail! I'm binging your videos, and I gotta say I think you may have the best 4Runner off-road content. A lot of the other 5th gen 4Runner channels I've seen are basically "hey we have 10k in mods to go run some dirt roads". I like that yours is fairly stock and you're doing more difficult stuff. Just goes to show you don't need to spend a fortune on accessories and steel bumpers and whatnot.
Trail Runnah Thanks! Glad you’re enjoying the videos! 😉👍
Yea I’m a minimalist just have what we need. The 4Runner is a awesome rig doesn’t need much and the more you put on it takes away from it’s ability. Thanks again!
I have the same vehicle, even the same tires. Appreciate you showing what it can do.
Michael Ellis Thanks! 😉👍
Now get out and do it! Yeeeeew 🤘🏼
Don't let life pass you by. That's why you buy a 4runner.
Nice video! I'm always impressed by the crawl control at 6:50. I can not wait to get my 2020 trd offroad, just ordered it last week! :)
Thanks! :)
Congrats on the new truck!!!!
Yea crawl control works awesome. It's always my last resort. LOL
Great driving. I would love to make it to Utah some day. Just picked up a 2020 4Rnr off road premium. So far has OME Bp-51 3 inch lift. CBI full skids and side rails being delivered on Tuesday. Have to get it armored before wheeling. I came from Jeeps and this is my first Yota. Loving it so far. I have never been out west, only along the eastern seaboard and eastern Canada. So many places I want to see. Thats the purpose of my rig, exploring, not ultra rock crawling like in the past. The comfort and fit and finish in the 4Rnr is so nice compared to what i am used too.
Thanks! Congrats on the new truck, sounds like a great set up. The trails out west are amazing, so different to what we have on the east coast. We are heading back this summer. You're going to like the 4runner more and more. It's truly a do anything vehicle.
How many miles have you logged on that thing so far? Awesome wheeling as well!!!
Thank you! 120k
I'd choose this beast over a defender any day of the week. And great video btw
Hamza Nazeer Thanks! 😉👍 Like they say you take a Land Rover into the woods and a Toyota to get back out! 😂
Good driving skills, amazing footages, best T4R videos on the net !!!!!
Thanks really appreciate it!
Magnificent capabilities of Monster 4runner 💪💪💪
Thanks!😉👍
Such amazing driving. I think i remember from a previous video you did a OME 3 inch lift. How did that effect highway driving? Did the stiffer springs help with body roll next to the stock suspension?
Thank you! Drives way better than stock in all conditions. My truck is non kdss
Hi Jim I’m watching your video as I drive to Moab from Sarasota. Taking my 2021 SR5. I’m about to go through Pensacola.
Hi Tim,
That’s awesome! You are going to have a blast in Moab! Congrats on the new truck and let us know how it goes. Our next trip out west is in August, can’t wait!!! Thanks! Jim
Welcome to Utah and some of the greatest wheeling on the planet
Absolutely!
You're a boss man. Simple, mild/moderate build but you've taken it on some very challenging trails. Great driving skills!!!
Thanks really appreciate the comment!
I have taken my Jeep to the same trail and was wondering how a 4runner would do at Moab as I am considering replacing the Jeep, the 4runner did better than I expected in this video, good video
Thank you!
I can see it now. 2020 4 runner 6k miles like new. Never been in the mud. Glad to see you’re using it though.
Lol it’s actually a 2018 has 92k miles
Thanks, We definitely use it!
Awesome driving. What an epic trail. I just purchased a 2019 offroad, and am planning on taking out to Moab late summer/fall. Similar set up to yours, 3" lift and 285/70/r17s kos, without any additional weight. I have done lots of backpacking by foot but none by truck. Pumped for Utah. This video proves to me what is possible, just need to put in the time to learn! Thanks for the uploads.
Michael Chang Thanks! Really appreciate the comment. Congrats on the new truck. You have the right set up!! You are going to love it hitting the trails! Its addicting and a hell of a lot easier than hiking!😂
Awesome video. The one mod you did add did save you many times. Sliders I guess are worth the money. I hope to do this trail someday. I was watching and thinking your poor wife walked a lot of this trail. If I ever do get to do this trail, My wife and/or son will be doing the same.
😂 it’s a great exercise!
Absolutely on the sliders
Absolutely amazing driver’s skills.👏👏👏 Tired to watch those heavily tuned/lifted trucks stuck in the puddle on the “freeway”.
aleksey826 LOL Thanks!😉👍
Just got home from Moab. Glad I decided to skip this trail. Did go see the Dinosaur foot prints up on the hill though. Awesome video! You scare me sometimes Jim🤣🤣🤣...
Awesome! I can’t wait to go back to Moab.
Yea poison spider was a hard one.
I don’t remember a Dinosaur foot print on that trail but we did see some on another trail I think it was hells revenge? We saw the little girls grave that died in the 1800’s from the spider bit. As always thanks for the nice comments hope we meet up one day!😉👍
@@jimerinrose6235 The dinosaur foot prints are a small climb up at the entrance just off the parking lot area. I only did It because I chickened out on the trail🤣 there are some petroglyphs even higher up on the hill then the foot prints but i decided to chicken out on these too🤣🤣🤣
@@bwma LOL yea we saw the Petroglyphs. Really cool, you're really making me miss Moab!
@@jimerinrose6235 Any offroad trail is better that the daily grind. Enjoy the time on the trail and keep the video going for us less fortunate 😁👍🇺🇲
Love seeing someone skilled enough to really make use of their Yota off road. Are you running a locker in the front too? Hows the ifs handling it? Very impressed! Headed there with my 80 Series in a few days. Can't wait!!
Thanks! 😉👍 no front locker just the rear on and Atrac. Front end has been holding up good. I did have to replace lower control arm bushings they just wore out from all the trails. Love Land Cruisers. Had a few of them over the years. 80’s are my favorite.
I own a '22 TRD Offroad, and I admittedly will never come close to utilizing the vehicle they way you all do. Still, it's quite fun to see your montage of clips of some real world managing of obstacles
Thank you!
I run KO2s on all my trucks. Great tire for everyone 👍
Impressive for a stock 4RUNNER. Truly shows what they are capable of
Thanks! It does have a 3inch lift, bigger tires and skids/sliders
Awesome, really enjoyed...thanks for sharing.
Bill Waterhouse
Thanks really appreciate the nice comment. 😉👍
Epic!! Love your videos
Thanks! Really appreciate it!
Jim/Erin again low the vids! Question? When do you know when to air tires down and when not to? Do you carry a compressor with you places? Also any recommendations on psi’s if you do air down.
Thanks! I try to run 20-24lb on tougher terrain. I do carry a compressor. If it’s a easy trail I run 27lb so it’s comfortable and I can still drive on the highway without having to air back up.
I like that you kept the stock wheels. Legit 🤘🏼
Thanks!😉👍
Great driving
Thanks for the nice comment. :)
Bro... nice.. my wife and i went out there for the first time a couple weeks ago. We did some easy trails, be definitely want to go back to do some more difficult ones.
Thanks! Yea awesome place to wheel, we'll be back too!!!!
pretty damn impressive
delta whiskey thanks!! 😉👍
Awesome video! I really enjoyed watching the 4Runner in action.
I’ve got a 2016 trail w/ KDSS and thinking about lifting it 2-3inchs within a year.
Does your 4Runner have the KDSS and what type lift and how many inches did you end up doing with your?
Also how happy are you with it?
I live in Phoenix so most of the trails are pretty rocky out here but It’s also my daily so I want to make sure what ever I end up going with won’t ruin the on road ride to much...
Aleksey Kuchanskiy Thanks! 😉👍
I do not have KDSS
My mods include OME 3 inch lift from Toytec, SPC adjustable upper control arms, RSG sliders, and full RCI steel skids. The ride is night and day better than stock with the OME suspension.
No more nose dive and better in turns. It’s also way better off-road. Not sure how it would compare to KDSS
I just built this rig to be super durable as I wheel ALOT!!!! I try only to add things that I absolutely need. Love my 4Runner and I’ll keep this one until it cry’s uncle! 😂LOL
We ran Arizona last summer lots of cool trails there too!!!
Jim/Erin Rose,
Thanks for the info. Yeah I’ve just got full RCI underbody skids and sliders for protection but have yet to lift it. That’s coming up next. Those RCI steel skids are solid though. I’ve put some good hits on them they held up super well.
Yeah the 4Runners are awesome rigs. Keep posting your adventures with it...
😀
Skilled driver...not a small rig.
Thanks! 😉👍
Really nice video! Me and my family plan to do a one month cross country road trip next June in our 2011 4runner sr5 from California to the east coast and Moab is one of the place on our list that we want to visit. Your awesome video is very encouraging
4 Lo Thanks!😉👍 Sounds like a a awesome trip!!!!
😂😂😂 trail bunnies!!! Loved it!
Thanks! 👯♀️😂
Love the 4 runner guys !!!
R&A LEGACY Thanks we do too!😂
Buddy and I just bought flights from SoCal to a Collie to pick up his army green 2020 trd pro. We’re driving back and guess what’s on the way 😎
abrahizzzle That’s awesome!!! 😉👍
We are in Ouray CO running trails now. I don’t know how much you like your Buddy but I won’t recommend running poison spider in a brand new Pro.
I have a bigger lift and tires than a Pro, full aftermarket steel skids and sliders and my truck took a beating.. Don’t get me wrong a stock Pro taking good lines would make it but it ain’t leaving that place without some battle scars. If he’s looking for a no damage trail you guys could do fins and things. Hells revenge would be good too but he might get some bumper scraps.
Great Vid, I have a 2019 Same color and model as yours, non KDSS. I couldn’t tell if you had a lift, if so what do you have? Currently ours is not lifted but had a blast a MOAB over the summer.
Dylan Marsh Thanks! 😉👍
I do have a OME 3inch lift and 285/75/17’s BFG’ KO2,s
what set up are you running. looks like stock suspension. KDSS or no? What size tires.
3inch lift, no KDSS, 285/70/17
I have a full mods video here
ua-cam.com/video/Zrtd5qsXDbQ/v-deo.html
Man, you're an amazing driver!
William Captheship Thanks!! The truck has a lot to do with it! 😂
Love your vids. Do you find any difference with terrain settings - dirt, mogul, etc? Also, have you ever activated crawl control? Might be intefesting to see the difference on the descents...
Thanks! Don’t really use the terrain select that much anymore. 4 Low, ATRAC and manually shifting seems to work the best for me. Don’t use hill descent and crawl control that much either but it is crazy cool how it works. Once in a while if I loose traction on a climb I’ll give crawl control a try, It sometimes helps. Most of the time I just have to back up and give it more boot!😂
Awesome 4runner. With all the offroading/rock crawling you do, did you do any other maintenance besides what Toyota maintenance recommends?
jon kim Thanks!!! I just do what’s recommended.
Is this 4runner suspension stock? doesn't seem like it! Awesome video and driving! I have a 2014 stock waiting to pull the trigger on a kit ( hopefully Kings), even thou i live in Ft Lauderdale ( 33304). Is it a long drive? We don't have much down here in SFL!
Mods include 3inch OME 4R20 lift kit from Toytec, 285/70/17 BFG KO2's, SPC adjustable UCA, RCI full steel skids, RSG sliders, TJM Snorkel, and home made diff breather. I'm across the alley from you in Fort Myers 33912. . Door to door it's 33hrs/2,400 miles to Moab. We drove straight thru I slept for a few hours when my wife drove. We had an absolute blast out there. We'll be doing it again next summer probably do some more trails in Colorado too. There are some pretty good places to off-road on the west coast of Florida. If you want to make the trip over I'll can send you a list. Lots of good trails in North Carolina/Tennessee too!
Nice video, what is ur tire size? 285/70/17? Did body mount chop ?
Sorry missed your comment. Yes 285/70/17's no body mount chop.
Nice video
Thanks! 😉👍
Stock tires or 265/75s? What psi? Nice driving!
285/70/17 24psi that day Thanks! 😉👍
Good video. Love my 2015 Trail. What snorkel is that?
Sorry just noticed your question . TJM
Hey Jim and Erin! love your 4 runner setup, if you dont mind me asking..what tires size did you go with? thanks!
Evol M3 Thanks! 285/70/17
@@jimerinrose6235 will that rub on stock suspension on the OR?
Evol M3 With my 3inch lift I had to removed the front mud flaps and moved the inner plastic liner forward. I have adjustable upper control arms and with the caster set at +4.0 degrees it rubs once in a while off-road if I hit a bump just right. I need to bump the caster more next time I align it.
@@jimerinrose6235 are aftermarket control arms necessary when doing a lift?? Sorry I'm new to lifting vehicles.
Evol M3 No worries, not necessary but helps with aligning the front end with the added lift. I went with SPC adjustable upper control arms. I got them from Toytec along with my 4R20 OME 3inch lift kit. Even when my truck was stock I bumped my caster to +4 . This pushes the front wheels forward and it drives much better on the highway. Makes the truck feel more planted and less squirrelly. With a lift it’s harder to get that forward caster unless you have adjustable upper control arms. This forward caster also keeps the tires from hitting the body mounts. Without the upper adjustable control arms you might have to do a body mount chop to get the tires not to rub. Like I mentioned before you’ll also have to remove the front mudflaps and the inner front fender well you’ll need to unbolt it and move forward a little then just drill a couple holes and re mount. If you have any more question feel free to message me.
I just got a 2020 TrdPro 4RUNNER and at 6:50 did you change the speed higher?
Congrats on the new rig! Hard to remember but probably.
Cool video, thanks for sharing! Can I make you a quick question ? How many times during this trip you actually needed to switch on the diff locker?
Ulghart Thanks! 😉👍 usually flip on the rear locker on a steep climb or when I feel one tire spinning in the rear..
@@jimerinrose6235 will you say that locking the dif does a better job than A-trac?
Ulghart If I had to pick just one on a steep rocky climb it would be the rear locker. ATRAC works awesome in mud and sand. When both are on ATRAC is almost like a locker for the front tires on a climb. Minimizes that one tire in the air spinning aimlessly. If you watch my video Surf and Turf ua-cam.com/video/40QFRHL4K14/v-deo.html @ 10:21 I’m
going up a sandy hill and all systems are off the truck gets at a weird angle and the left front tire shoots sand 30 feet in the air. I back up turn on ATRAC and it goes up no problem with out spinning. Both system are awesome tools to have. I usually run with everything off and turn on the system if I think it’s going to be needed. ATRAC is hard on your brakes and the rear locker is hard on your tires if your turning.
@@jimerinrose6235 yup, it's basically what I thought. I have a SR5, and so far she's been handling every path and trail flawlessly. Yet, there are things that I haven't done, since it doesn't have the rear locker. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer!
Ulghart My Pleasure!
I don’t know why toyota haven’t bought your videos yet, to play on their T.Vs in the dealer lots.

Hi guys! I am super impressed by your skill and this 4RN's ability! I drive a 2014 Trail Edition and i've been curious as to how you set this truck up! Nothing seems to get in the way of this thing! It;s fun to watch for sure. I need to score to sliders and the idea of KO2's is growing on me...I've been on Toyo Open Country AT's since i bought it and they've been great but i want something more aggressive. Anyway, thanks in advance!
Carlos Alvarado Hi Carlos, Thanks!😉👍
I have a 3inch old man emu lift, adjustable SPC UCA’s, RCI full Skids and RSG sliders, diff breather, and TJM Snorkle. Just try and get by with the minimum to keep the weight down. I really love the KO2’s can’t say enough good things about them. Thanks again and have fun on your build!
@@jimerinrose6235 excellent! i was looking at the TJM site for snorkels and was wondering which kit works with our 4Runner's? Thanks again for all the info!
Carlos Alvarado No Problem sierra expedition has them www.sierraexpeditions.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=36337 I also made a video of the install ua-cam.com/video/9kvoC0ylo9I/v-deo.html
@@jimerinrose6235 oh my goodness watching the hole saw go thru that fender...! So is it mostly water tight?
Carlos Alvarado Yea your commited once you drill the hole! 😂 it’s water tight. Most Snorkle companies do recommend you leave the factory drain hole open in the bottom of the air box incase rain water gets in when you are drivin. If you know your going to be in deep water you can plug the drain hole, it’s tiny.
Great vids! It does seem like you have to air down tho
Thanks! 😉👍 In Moab I started each trail at 24lbs We were hitting the skids a lot on poison spider so I left it there.
What suspension and tires are you using? Do you have KDSS?
Skyler Stancil Old Man Emu 3inch lift. Tires are 285/70/17 BFG KO2’s I do not have kdss
do you think clearing these obstacles were possible with a rear difflock instead of Atrac ??
If I had to pick only one thing to use on an obstacle it would be the rear locker. I did use the rear locker and ATrac on the hard ones.
The trail recommends 3inch lift and rear locker
@@jimerinrose6235
The reason I asked you is
because I am comparing the Toyota Fortuner with the Endeavour , it’s also called Everest in Australia
Fortuner has a very good a track system and the Endeavour/ Everest comes with a below average traction control but with a rear diffflock
Am planning to buy within a month ,
So I wanted to know that if I go for the Everest/ Endeavour , will It be able to go places and clear obstacles like the Fortuner but A-trac ??

Those gotta be the smallest looking 285’s I’ve seen. Why are BFG smaller than any other brand?
Look small until you try to put them on a stock truck. 😂
@@jimerinrose6235 if you put them side by side on the other brands with the same size, the other brands are at least an inch taller for some reason. I noticed this when I replaced my 315/70r17 ko2 on my Cummins and then put on toyos of the same size. There was almost 1.5 inches of difference
You’re comparing a worn tire to a new one there is going to be a difference.
@@jimerinrose6235 nah man. Try it next time you’re at a tire shop. Put the same size next to each other. It’s well known that bfg tires are smaller

Do some easier trails if you’re worried, your not going to hurt it. I’ve been off-roading mine since new. Some people on here gave me grief about doing that to a new truck. Almost 6 years and 140k miles later still going strong. Never broke down or stranded on a trail. 😉👍

What suspension in this video?
3inch Old Man Emu
Could someone help me out and tell me what size KO2’s they have on that TRD off-road? Is there also a level in it?
Matt Sobey Sure 285/70/17’s 3inch old man emu lift. Soft springs in the front medium in the rear. It is level with all the gear in the back. Sits a little higher in the back when empty.
Can a stock 4runner do Moab?
synthrone yes with some scraping
I took my kdss off. You’ll want to remove kdss if you want to lift it and perform better off road. You can lift it with kdss but it costs a lot more to lift with kdss. Kdss is not needed. That’s why you don’t find TRD Pros with it.
CCWstraightshooter
I don’t have KDSS and it already has a 3inch OME lift. 🙄
Disagree with this, my 4runner has a 2.5 inch lift and I didnt have to remove kdss and it didnt cost more to lift.

@@mikefields1873 Thats awesome, congrats on the new rig! I usually do an internet search on best off-road trails in a specific area I also look on google maps for trails. Charles A. wells has some great trail guide books from each state. I would recommend buying one before you hit that area.
@@jimerinrose6235 What PSI did you run in Moab?
If he lowered the tire pressure he would do even better
Casey Thornton you have to understand the more you lower the tire pressure you are also losing ground clearance and increasing your chances of the tire coming off the rim. Also if my air compressor takes a crap I could still drive the truck on the road with out causing tire damage. Have you ever looked inside a tire that was run on low pressure sidewalls start to come apart.
I try to stay between 20-24psi
Looks like the guy in the video is climbing all that rock with his lockers engaged (lots of tire chirping). Not smart to use lockers in Moab unless your stuck in sand. Mud or super steep rock climb. You should only use lockers if your stuck not full time. Your likely going to bind up your system and snap something. A-Track is all you need in Moab at best.
CCWstraightshooter
I didn’t have the lockers on all of the time. I only engage them when they are needed and Moab has some super steep rocky climbs where they are. A-trac is great but I found its short comings on steep rock climbs. It’s hard to see in the videos how steep some of theses climbs are and the tires squeal with or without lockers. I have 60k on my truck and off-road at least once a week all over the country. I haven’t broke anything wheeling. I’ll engage my lockers when I know I need them but thanks for your input. 😂
What kind of cv axles are you running? If stock how often do you break them?
mike lee I haven’t broken a CV, still on the originals. I went through a set of lower control arm bushings and the rear main seal was replaced under warranty twice. Dealer said dirt and mud caused the failure’s. Now I covered the inspection hole and spray it out with water once in a while. We’ll see if that helps.
Great driving
Nic Restrepo Thanks!😉👍
