Some terms are of similar meanings; are used synonymously. But have a difference in meaning also.
Nabi & Rasul; Momin & Muslim; Jihad & Qital.
Every Qital is Jihad, but every Jihad is not Qital.
Every Momin is Muslim, but every Muslim is not Momin.
Every Rasul is Nabi, but every Nabi is not a Rasul.
Reasearches have done investigation into the difference between Rasul and Nabi and have reached to varied conclusions.
One said: The Nabi who brings Kitab is a Rasul. This is not correct. Because Zabur was given to Dawud; and He was a Nabi but not a Rasul.
Another said: The Nabi who is given a new Shariat is a Rasul. This is also not correct. Because Isa did not come with a new Shariat; though he was a Rasul.
Nabuwwat actually is a special Martaba; while Risalat is a special Mansab.
Mansab = appointment.
Nabi is, in himself, a wali-e-kamil.
The Wali of Allah of gets Wahi becomes Nabi.
If he gets appointed to go towards a particular nation for itmam-e-hujjat, he becoems a Rasul.
Corrosponding to Ambiya (plural of Nabi), the term used is Qasas-ul-Ambiya (the story of Ambiya).
Corrosponding to Rusul (plural of Rasul), the term used is Amba-ur-Rusul (the great news of Rusul).
Nabi does not insist on believing in himself; he doesn't ask people to follow his commands. Rasul does both.
Yusuf was only a Nabi as cn be onserved in his story.
The difference between killing a Nabi and a Rasul can be understood as the difference between killing a police officer at him home, and on duty. On duty killing is considered as a rebellion against the state.
Yaqoob, Ishaq were all Nabi.
Some reports say there are 124,000 Ambiya and 313 Rusul.
A nation is not destroyed on denying the call of a Nabi; while it does get destroyed in case they disbelieve in Rasul after itmam-e-hujjat.
Azab-e-istisaal its called.
Yahya and Isa were contemperories. Both mentioned in Surah Aal-e-Ibrahim. Yahya was beheaded. When Isa was tried to be killed, he was saved by being elevated to heaven.
At some places in Quran, the term Rasul is also used for Nabi - that is just used synonymously.
Muhammad pbuh was sent specificalprimarily to Ummiyyeen (the gentiles) and secondarily to the whole of Ummah.
The case of Muhammad pbuh is most similar to Musa.
Both are Sahib-e-Kitab, Sahib-e-Shariat, Sahib-e-Hijrat.
Musa also was similarly sent on two mission. As a Nabi to Bani-Israil and as a Rasul to Firaun.
The actual itmam-e-hujjat was established upon ummiyyeen.
Thus on denial, the Ummiyyeen were qualified for an Azab-e-Istisaal; the ayaat for which are in Surah Taubah.
Behtareen isse behtar wazahat shayad hi mumkin ho.

Rasool, Indeed Jonah is one of the messengers
Not a great argument...this explanation of nabi and rasool is the result of not paying close attention to what the Qur'an is actually saying. A nabi is someone who brings "naba" (news) through the wahi but as soon as he starts conveying the "naba" to the people, he becomes a rasool automatically. Thus, all nabis are rasools by default, not the other way around because the Rasool is a messenger who has a message to deliver. That's why the Qur'an declares Muhammad (sws) as "Khatam-an-Nabiyyen"...NOT "Khatam-al-Mursaleen". The Qur'an uses the word rasool (or mursaleen/rusul) even for ordinary messengers, but word "nabi" has never been used for just anyone who has some news to tell. If the Qur'an is not studied with deep reflection, there will always be ignorance.

33:40
مَا كَانَ مُحَمَّدٌ اَبَآ اَحَدٍ مِّنۡ رِّجَالِكُمۡ وَلٰـكِنۡ رَّسُوۡلَ اللّٰهِ وَخَاتَمَ النَّبِيّٖنَ ؕ وَكَانَ اللّٰهُ بِكُلِّ شَىۡءٍ عَلِيۡمًا ۞
Translation:
MuHammad is not a father of any of your men, but he is a messenger of Allah and the last of the prophets. And Allah has the Knowledge of every thing. ؏
