Howard Hamlin's death still makes me so sad. It feels like the best friend I always wanted to have lost forever. And the way he fell to the floor, like Chuck in the copy machine store, was so well done that it gave me PTSD.

Damn good list, tho I'd 100% put Winner for season 4. Werner's (utterly beautifully-shot) death, Jimmy's (ultimately manufactured) emotional reckoning with the events of the previous three seasons, and (above all) the ICONIC finger-guns ending: "'S'all good, man!"
Up until the last half of season 6, I was absolutely loving the show but I was wondering how they could possibly reconcile the way Saul is in Breaking Bad with the way he is in Better Call Saul. But they absolutely nailed it in the end. That time skip after Kim breaks up with Jimmy took the show to another level.
I'd like to see a Lyle spin off.. What happens to him? He was a loyal employee that achieved Los Pollos standards and was not in the BB timeline. Did he get a Gus funded scholarship to college OR buried under the restaurant?
I enjoyed both shows, but the ending to Better Call Saul was far from great. It felt forced, almost contrived to fit what the writer's wanted rather than how the character was behaving.
@@henrythegreatamerican8136 - Agree entirely about the ending. Really disappointing in an otherwise brilliant show. They want us to believe that Jimmy would trade 7 years inside for 86? That’s not the Jimmy we have come to know. It’s almost like the ending was focus group tested … and the producers/writers went with the most popular…. such a lost opportunity.
I'm glad that Vince said he wants to challenge himself and step away from the Breaking Bad universe / Anti-hero theme and try something new. He's obviously talented and its great to see when someone wants to get out of their bubble to prove to himself that he can diverse himself. Its also good that he's not taking advantage of his fans and nostalgia of Breaking Bad. Anyone can ride the success train and pump out fan service like a money making machine. But I'd be lying if I didn't say I would like to see a Gus Fring prequel in the future.
I think a lalo sequel would make the most sense. BESIDES a mockumentary post BCS and BB having everyone left over discussing what they know of the events of breaking bad. Maybe ending with Saul getting some time off his sentence for partaking in the documentary.
After watching this interview,I realized that Vince, dispite showing intelligence and talent as a writer and director, doesn’t seem like one of those mega talented nerds who plan every step of the story ahead and everything, instead, his greatest strength seems to be his humbleness and his teamwork.
The greatest Prequal ever made and The Greatest TV show of all time. Vince Gilligan is winning at life. Peter Gold, The Writing crew, production, everyone behind and in front of the camera played their roles to perfection. BB and BCS are my all time comfort shows and favourite shows of all time.
Vince Gilligan has made his mark in entertainment history. Breaking Bad is the most brilliant series ever created for television. BCS is a close second. I just wish we could have had more Tony Dalton! He was remarkable as Lalo. Absolutely brilliant shows. Nothing else like this universe.
A robot?! That was always one of my favorite Jesse lines! That and Cowhouses 😂😂😂 Wonderful interview! Thank you Vince for what you have given this world😊
My favorite is from "Fly" when Jesse doses Walt with sleeping pills. "Possum. Big, freaky, lookin' b*tch. Since when did they change it to opossum? When I was comin' up it was just possum. Opossum makes it sound like he's Irish or something. Why do they gotta go changing everything?"
Loved every second of this. I'm from across the pond and have just finished watching BCS. Never thought , in my lifetime, that anything would be better than BB but BCS just is. First time I've actually seen what Vince looks like. I doubt if any of them read these comments but a mighty Thank You to each and every one of you involved in this tele - visual masterpiece. A new meaning to the definition of smart tv. The acting from all concerned was simply outstanding . Rhea's breakdown must be given an award all by itself. Never seen anything like it. Bob's acting throughout, faultless. Sublime.
Vince Gilligan is not only a creative genius who has given me hours of entertainment, he is also a great guy, I met him as his waiter in a revolving restaurant in NYC, when he was having dinner. Just a great modest sincere guy. Nice to see he is so successful!
he got me x files ( some of the best episodes) when I was a kid, now bb and bcs... amazing director and showmaker. i have the ultimate respect for him. thanks vince.
I’m so excited that his next project will be science fiction! I had anticipated a “Christmas Carol-ish” ending but had desperately hoped a more X-files-ish / twilight zone slant. Can’t wait to see what Vince Gilligan has in store for us. Thanks for sharing this interview!
also, lalo is what a cartel or cirminal orgainzation should have in their leadership. almost james bond like cunning and charming yet brutal and ruthless... he scared me... in the show. brilliant
Vince is always so down to earth and humble. All of his interviews I’ve ever seen are always great. You’d imagine that you’d develop a little bit of an ego after creating two of the best shows of all time.
I'm new to Rich the past couple years, but his astuteness in interviewing Vince about BCS and his new Andy Reid interview made me a lifelong fan. I feel like he's a similar soul to me, just fantastic questions Rich!
Would be great to see a series about a young Hector Salamanca. His brutality and cruelty seem to be a thing of legend in the series. Before Gus became the mind behind the cartel, he was the weapon. His family carried the cartel to what it is today.
A Lalo spinoff is what we need!! He was way too badass a character to only be featured in limited episodes. Also, a Lalo spinoff would attract a lot of hispanic viewers
Such an interesting guy! And I just wanted to say that I absolutely loved the character of Kim. There isn't many woman characters that act like a real person. She isn't naked or stupid or a victim or anything else that most women characters seem to be written like. Best writing I've ever seen
I agree! I love that there's no casual sexism, no "woman struggling to make it in a man's world" sermonizing, no using her feminine wiles to get ahead, no over the top emotional outbursts, no "she must be on her period" jabs, no mean girl tropes, blah, blah, blah. Rhea Seahorn said in an interview that she liked how Jimmy is clearly the more emotional of the two whereas Kim is poised and controlled. It turns the typical male/female dynamic we're used to seeing on its head. Kim's "womanhood" isn't referenced or put on display because it doesn't need to be. Obviously she's beautiful and feminine but that's secondary to her bearing and presence. What stands out most about her is how capable, intelligent, well spoken and impressive she is. And I love that!
Thank you Vince for bringing us Breaking Bad, El Camino and Better Call Saul. We will miss the characters so much. A big void no other program can fill. Great work 👍
Im sure Vince will not be reading these comments, but i dont think Saul committed 87 years worth of sins. He didnt even kill anyone. Everyone want a lawyer like Saul, he seems to have paid for everyones sins. My opinion aside the whole show incuding the ending was brilliant. And i dont think anyone has ever pulled off a prequel and a sequel at the same time. Genious.
Kim‘s atonement was the crying scene on the bus-Sauls atonement was complete confession on the stand….. both were done to atone for Howard Hamlin‘s death
I have such respect for Vince Gilligan, Peter Gould and all the creative forces behind this show. Yes, they were able to craft 11 or 12 seasons of incredible television. But the way they were interwoven in Saul, often multiple times within individual episodes, was just remarkable.
The reason the prosecutor's no-loss record was of note was only in part to show that he was good. It was also leverage Saul used to press home that he posed a threat to that record, which was a big part of that guy's rep and prospects down the line.
Thank you vince. Really so appreciative of everything you've blessed us with. Since my daughters still young i tell her all the time how lucky she is that she can start better call saul with fresh eyes one day before she gets into breaking bad i almost envy her because i wish i could watch that entire series again with fresh eyes
The more I watch BCS the more I find how big a masterpiece it is. It is out of this world! How is it even possible to fit everything towards BB? And to perfection...
I would absolutely love a show about Jesse in Alaska. Maybe after another ten years. We can find out what he did with his life after. You can even start the show with Jesse’s 50th birthday (mirroring Walt turning 50 at the beginning of BB). You can also bring back other characters like Mike’s granddaughter for instance 😅
Exactly. Jesse let's a jib as a welder, real blue collar stuff. He's also an artist, doing maybe craft fairs. He's married, has a could of kids, maybe one is named Jane. His padt obviously will catch up with Jim. Imagine explaining his former life to his wife. What would she do? His kids? Dad is a murderer and meth cook? There is no statute of limitations for murder. TBH, I'd love to visit that character.
ahhh what a great chat! He got 7 and max was 180 and he spoke his truth to let the jury decide his worth it was the perfect ending this Gilligan honestly is amazing
There’s definitely a lot of story to be told regarding the rise of Gus Fring. We haven’t seen much of his background other than Max’s death and one childhood story, so they could definitely make a show about his rise to the top. Especially because then you could bring back Lalo, the cousins, Tuco, Nacho, Don Hector, Don Eladio, and possibly even throw in a Howard Hamlin cameo (Gustavo Fring and Howard Hamlin seem like they would get along, both being professional, polite gentlemen). He definitely seems like the character that is most capable of being the series main character and yet is also one who’s background is pretty vague.
Could bring back Juan Bolsa too. Plus they could introduce new characters like other cartels, FBI agents, local police detectives, ppl from Gus’ past in Chile etc
Okay, here's what happed after BCS, BB, and El Camino. Kim is not completely done with Jimmy. He's still in love with her, she is fond of him. She gets his sentence reduced to 15 years, which means he's out at 60 years. Not sure what happens to all those diamonds.
I can imagine a good spoof ending, where it's like "The Producers", with Jimmy giving out legal advice, to the guards as well, and kicking some percentage up to the warden.
Just watched the final two episodes last night. I thought the writers were gonna go a different direction with the ending, but in the end it was a satisfying fade to black. Great show. Better than 'Breaking Bad' IMHO.
What’s so amazing about this is the fact that developing a team creates awesome results, no matter what the profession. Great show. True Natural Talent. Thx
Great interview !!. If Vince was to do another spin-off show in the future, I think it would be difficult to pull it off as the actors would be that very much older in a few years time. Who know's, if Vince's new project is an outstanding success, people may want more of the same from that. Time will tell !!

Wow! What an amazing thoughtful, engaging interview!! Love that idea of Better Call Saul could have been a comedy in the spirit of Dr. Katz Professional Therapist 😆 👏👏👏👏 Thank you Vince and Peter and all the writers for this journey of pain and redemption
Kim is the Walter White of Better Call Saul, she just never gets the moment where she's revealed. She always gets everything she wants AND gets to take the moral high ground by acting like she's not the one pulling the strings even though she is Jimmy's puppetmaster without being willing to even confront she's doing it. Just like with her mom Kim got to steal, enjoy it, and say she wouldn't be doing it if not for who's making her be this way.
I had to "hide" from spoiler alerts in Season 6 for a long time, and I finally watched the whole thing this week. I gotta admit, you threw me some numbing curves - where I thought, for the most part, I knew what the outcome had to be for most of the leads.
Making it rain for the Kim and Jesse scene was a really good choice. If the weather was clear she would probably be standing outside of her car and not staying by the front of the building to smoke.
BCS/BB fans: The scene with Jesse and Kim symbolizes a torch-passing moment of two main characters whose lives were destroyed by Saul Vince: Yeah he's kinda looking her up and down like "M'am you're pretty MILFy" which she is

6. Rock And Hard Place/Plan And Execution/Waterworks/Saul Gone... I can't pick just one for the last season...Nippy gets an honourable mention as well, this final season was great.
Better Dial Lyle
@@ranettleton8806 crazy funny!
Lyle continued Gus's legacy and reopened Los Pollos Hermanos into Lyle's Fries
Lyle takes full control of the drug business after the Nazis' death
Boring!
Loved the ending and the entire 2 shows and movie. Such a huge accomplishment to keep it great the entire time.
I loved all three of them. Great writing in all of them
I enjoyed both shows, but the ending to Better Call Saul was far from great. It felt forced, almost contrived to fit what the writer's wanted rather than how the character was behaving.
@@henrythegreatamerican8136 The ending was perfect. I don’t know what you’re talking about
@@henrythegreatamerican8136 - Agree entirely about the ending. Really disappointing in an otherwise brilliant show. They want us to believe that Jimmy would trade 7 years inside for 86? That’s not the Jimmy we have come to know. It’s almost like the ending was focus group tested … and the producers/writers went with the most popular…. such a lost opportunity.
@@henrythegreatamerican8136 YAWWWNN 🥱 hav fun tryin ur best to be different
We need an El Camino II and Breaking Bad 2: spongebob.
We just had the Gus front prequel
Bruh he would exactly go back to the anti-hero theme if he did a Gus prequel, why not something comedic like a Huell prologue
i think Jesse should have got an Alaska movie instead of getting over there story
After watching this interview,I realized that Vince, dispite showing intelligence and talent as a writer and director, doesn’t seem like one of those mega talented nerds who plan every step of the story ahead and everything, instead, his greatest strength seems to be his humbleness and his teamwork.
He knows how to pick and choose people's suggestions probably as well a let those expand their creative minds
Keep giving these writers jobs!!!!!!! They deserve it more than anyone in the business!
That and Cowhouses 😂😂😂
Wonderful interview! Thank you Vince for what you have given this world😊
You know, where the cows live.
The cows!
Cowhouse... God help me
My favorite is from "Fly" when Jesse doses Walt with sleeping pills. "Possum. Big, freaky, lookin' b*tch. Since when did they change it to opossum? When I was comin' up it was just possum. Opossum makes it sound like he's Irish or something. Why do they gotta go changing everything?"
Ahhh wire!!
I love that Saul is introduced to the show as a "criminal" lawyer and ends the series as a criminal-lawyer
The legend of vince gilligan.....thank you
Nothing will ever top the quality of storytelling in this universe.
Sublime.
Thank You Vince for the BB Universe
Vince Gilligan is not only a creative genius who has given me hours of entertainment, he is also a great guy, I met him as his waiter in a revolving restaurant in NYC, when he was having dinner. Just a great modest sincere guy. Nice to see he is so successful!
Could hear Vince talk about his shows all day. Can't wait to see what he'll do next.
Mannnn, he’s so humble about the shows. He’s never above his crew and I LOVE HIM for that!
My respect for this guy went through the roof after this.
he got me x files ( some of the best episodes) when I was a kid, now bb and bcs... amazing director and showmaker. i have the ultimate respect for him. thanks vince.
I’m so excited that his next project will be science fiction! I had anticipated a “Christmas Carol-ish” ending but had desperately hoped a more X-files-ish / twilight zone slant. Can’t wait to see what Vince Gilligan has in store for us. Thanks for sharing this interview!
‘My echo, my shadow, and me’
Me neither, The X-Files was long my favorite show and I loved his episodes. I’m ready for whatever he decides to do next.
How did you anticipate a Christmas Carol-ish ending? Do you mean after you saw the cold open with Mike?
also, lalo is what a cartel or cirminal orgainzation should have in their leadership. almost james bond like cunning and charming yet brutal and ruthless... he scared me... in the show. brilliant
Bolsa as well
Worse villain in either series. Tuco could be bested, 'cause he was insane.
Breaking Bad, El Camino, and Better Call Saul are art. The story is so masterfully crafted. I love those shows so much.
Vince is always so down to earth and humble. All of his interviews I’ve ever seen are always great. You’d imagine that you’d develop a little bit of an ego after creating two of the best shows of all time.
Honestly. The man is such a role model. Wonder what next works him and his team will create
Couldn't agree more. Seems like an absolutely top bloke....
I recently started listening through the breaking bad insider podcast again and even back in 2009 he still had the same attitude
He is the exact opposite of those two douchewads who created GOT.
I wanna see biznatch come back
Your wish is heard by the monkey's paw, and the people who made slippin' Jimmy make it for you.
@@arthurjeremypearson yeah no thanks
Then you'd love his character in Scar Face which also has a young Don Eladio, well, Steven Bauer, anyway.
@@mntnbiker818 I saw him in scar face. He did good in Pi also. I’m a pure math major so that movie was trip for sure. He’s an underrated actor.
A Lalo spinoff is what we need!! He was way too badass a character to only be featured in limited episodes. Also, a Lalo spinoff would attract a lot of hispanic viewers
Que?
que 💀
No, because Lalo needed to die.
I just marathoned BB and ElCamino again for umptnth time and everything hits different after watching BCS series 💎💎💎
Thank you Vince. Loved it all from day one.
Genious.
GREAT INTERVIEW! Thanks!!
One of the greatest story tellers of our generation
Get a grip. He had a team of writers.
@@Montrovantis many shows have good writers. It takes a good lead to get the best of a talented team
@@jw2862 Okay. That has nothing to do with the comment at hand.
Interesting reference to redemption in "A Christmas Carol" since Saul was 'visited' by his ghosts in the flashbacks, Mike, Walter and Chuck.
Good point
Jimmy's atonement was foreshadowed when he did the scene from Network...."You must ATONE" in an older show.
The entire episode was like unwrapping a present! Super exciting!
The BB, EC & BCS family clearly demonstrating that television can reach the pinnacle of the arts.
People just forgetting about the existence of the cartoon slippin'Jimmy huh. You wanted it, the monkey's paw heard you.
This guy without a doubt has the best writing team in Hollywood.
Breaking Bad
El Camino
Better Call Saul
Amazingly written and executed.
I love how Vince talks about the characters as if they’re real people and the events really happened.
This is an awesome interview, I loved the ending to BCS.
The reason the prosecutor's no-loss record was of note was only in part to show that he was good. It was also leverage Saul used to press home that he posed a threat to that record, which was a big part of that guy's rep and prospects down the line.
The entire Universe is AMAZING-Jimmy finally did what needed to be done for atonement of his Soul,LONG LIVE Jimmy and Kim 💖💖💖
And to perfection...
great interview. what a great show and finale. the crew is so likable
I wondered if they were going to stick the landing, and man, did they ever. Perfect show from start to finish.
This man deserves a golden throne at the cookout
My God “Better call Lalo and the Salamanca twins” that would be insane
ahhh what a great chat!
I think his past is better as a mystery
Could bring back Juan Bolsa too. Plus they could introduce new characters like other cartels, FBI agents, local police detectives, ppl from Gus’ past in Chile etc
He’s getting a tad bit to old to play a young Gus tho
far better then the Sopranos; great interview, thanks for posting this👍👍👍👍
Okay, here's what happed after BCS, BB, and El Camino.
What did you think it would be?
What’s so amazing about this is the fact that developing a team creates awesome results, no matter what the profession. Great show. True Natural Talent. Thx
Great interview !!. If Vince was to do another spin-off show in the future, I think it would be difficult to pull it off as the actors would be that very much older in a few years time. Who know's, if Vince's new project is an outstanding success, people may want more of the same from that. Time will tell !!
Jesse Pinkman's story is the only one left unresolved.
There no statute of limitations for murder, and you know life can catch up with you.
I can't believe this need created the world of breaking bad including better call saul 😂. Thank you VG, you are the best writer and director in the history of TV series.
Getting 86 years sentence instead of 7 was the twist within the twist
He'd never see 86 years. He's too good. Good behavior, and Kim will show up and get him out in 15-20 years.
Carol Burnett incredible, especially at almost 90...
Merci à mr Gould et Gilligan pour ces 2 meilleures séries au monde !!! 😍
I had to watch this interview after completing b.c.s and breaking bad. the series blew me away. Nearly every scene perfectly crafted. This crew are genius and cant wait to see what else they come up with. The characters and there depth, the the themes, the symbolism, the dialogue, the story. u dont see shows like this
Vince and Peter gaves us an absolute golden age of television.....15 years of perfection
Best line in the finale was Walt saying "So you were always like this". Sums Jimmy up
What masterpieces those shows are.
Both, amazing in their own right.
incredible what he and the team were able to do with those two shows. Loved it all
In the RV when Jesse asks Saul, "Who's Lalo?" - just a killer line
It would actually be pretty neat if the original 30-minute law comedy show idea became the Kim Wexler show hahaha
Wow! What an amazing thoughtful, engaging interview!!
Love that idea of Better Call Saul could have been a comedy in the spirit of Dr. Katz Professional Therapist 😆
👏👏👏👏
Thank you Vince and Peter and all the writers for this journey of pain and redemption
Woah, a staff member’s one off joke, started all this..👏👏
If you ever get into filmmaking, be open to ideas from everyone. Be humble.
I love his answer to "Why black & white for the current days?" - "We just love black & white lmao". No symbolism, no hidden meaning.
BCS/BB fans: The scene with Jesse and Kim symbolizes a torch-passing moment of two main characters whose lives were destroyed by Saul
Vince: Yeah he's kinda looking her up and down like "M'am you're pretty MILFy" which she is
Based Vince
I appreciate this interview SO much. Forever my favorite world.
