Mostly-Ultralight🤣
Ultra-meh
I moved across the country 4 years ago and my old gear was not worth the dollar/pound moving cost. I bought new gear and came up with a similar result to you. At the current age of 54 I appreciate the weight difference. Depending on the trip I still bring some "luxury" items (bourbon). Keep up the good work. I enjoy your style.
This is by far my favorite camping content on all of YT. I love your no nonsense approach and sense of humor man. I made the same Ronnie Coleman reference on trail with my hiking group a couple weeks ago and no one got it…
Thank you!! I appreciate it :)
Lightweight babyyyy
Mystery Ranch for the ultralight set-up? I LIKE IT. I just purchased the bridger 45 for my next trip and its easily the most comfortable bag I've ever tried on! If its in your budget just buy Mystery Ranch!
So u like the double strap thing?
Ive got coule*40 and i like the pack part of the bridger but i dont know anyone thats used it yet
@@Saml3227 ohhh yeah. Its ridiculously comfortable! And my pack is usually 30-40 lbs.
Wow. My Outdoor Vitals Shadowlight 60 is under 2 pounds - WITH the internal frame, and it carries quite well - I’ve had up to 50 pounds in it (significantly over the recommended load, but it was a 10-day food carry, and the pack did fine…)
I guess those pounds really matter if a sub-10 base weight is what you are shooting for.
@@BackpackingTV My baseweight has been flirting with, but never quite under 20 pounds… That said, it sure beats the military 50-60 pound packs I was carrying back in the ‘70’s & ‘80’s..!
After moving to canada i left all my gear in ireland my usual baseweight was around 30lbs with old gear there, over the last couple of years i rebuilt my entire gear collection going a mix of ultralight and comforts and my baseweight now sits at 15.6lbs but i include my 2.1lbs of camera gear in there so without that its 13.1lbs im definitely happier with the lower weight nowadays over the much heavier stuff i carried for years 😂
Ireland to Canada is quite the hop
I don't do anything outdoors, strictly recreationally. That is, whatever I do has a practical core; skills and gear that I can 'work' with. My backpacking gear is a little on the heavy side because I try to use the most common items I can. The problem with 'ultralight' gear isnt just the expense, but availability. If I have to replace a piece of ultralight gear, I typically have to get online and shop and then wait days to even weeks for it. I prefer things I can find in a dollar store or someone's kitchen. That said, theres just no substitute for my AquaQuest Safari 🥰
I strike a balance with weight. I have some lighter gear where it matters, but always pack more water than I need as it's come in handy multiple times when sources were dried out or otherwise not available.
I feel ya on bringing more water. I take my 8yr old son out with me on hikes and just to be safe I’ll take at least 5L . He also has to take his own 2L but just to be safe and take extra stuff for him. Tons of fun and it gets me more jacked lol
With a name like hugeguy, you BETTER be jacked haha
ultralight depends on the season too
It all depends on the distance. Shorter distances=heavier more comfort items
I see so many videos about lightweight and ultralight backpacking and it makes me feel crazy for packing like a rat and carrying 45+ lbs of shit lmao
There is nothing wrong with that! I used to sit around 50 back in the day because I was the designated "donkey" and had to carry all the group's pots and pans ha
Lol im almost always hiking to a water source that has fish so less water and a fishing pole and a cast iron skillet. 😂
Samwise Gamgee carried a cast iron skillet into Mordor
More cow bell!
I am a person who knows 🤷♂️ some things.
