- Big Antique Mall in a Little Town! I Vintage Reselling
We held this one back until closer (2 weeks) to reopening! Twin Lakes Antique Mall in Gilbertsville, Kentucky is a giant emporium of 170 dealers by the Land Between the Lakes national recreation area, where social distancing is easy and great antique and vintage collectibles await visitors.
With 170 dealers, we only scratch the surface of the vast variety on display. Early Fenton carnival water sets and wonderfully priced porch wicker vie for attention with tools, truly antique primitives and vibrant vintage textiles. A booth full of Fiesta and cases with railroadiana, Capodimonte and Christmas collectibles delight the eye.
Will the wheel of fortune shine down upon us? We trust our luck to find fun things for resale, from a sweet hibiscus girl and fab 50s flamingoes to Haeger musicians and a Jim and Tammy record. This is my only midwest location, so we visit my space briefly and talk about my upcoming expansion (we’ll see more in my next video).
For the stately home, a Roseville pedestal jardiniere, a fantastically painted flour sifter and a sink with Wedgwood handles are standouts. We spend time interpreting what we see (and hear, in the case of a possessed vintage child’s toy!).
A detailed list of items follows below…
I hope my review of this massive antique mall helps you learn more about antique and vintage items, inspires interest in more realms of collecting and informs resellers about vintage items of value! I’m happy to be sharing my real world vintage encounters with the online community, I love sharing our passion and hope we will all help each other with our antique education.
Here’s a list of other items we discover more about in this video:
Carnival glass, Lladro, Gone With the Wind lamp, Pepsi thermometer, advertising, oak drawer cabinet, records, quilts and coverlets, hotel washstand, rolling bread rack, one man band, swim fins, Ertl tractor, cat s&p, tiger planter, See-and-Say, butcher scale, Stanford corn ware, soda counter dispenser, Keebler elves, soybean license plate, oil cans, Arabia pitcher, canning jars, mystery jars, buggy seat, Sebastian miniatures, indian baskets, Treasure Craft Barrel line, Blendo glass, Penguin deco ice bucket, etc.

Just found this channel and am fascinated by the wealth of knowledge that you have on your subject, very, very interesting, I have just subscribed and so has my sister, we will be watching all your videos from now on. Best wishes from the U.K.
Welcome, Jude! I'm excited that you both have discovered me. I do run into lots of English bits in my travels, so hopefully there will be familiar things as well as novelties along the way. I'm excited to spread the joy and passion and info about all these interesting old vintage and antique goods!
Your knowledge is amazing and impressive. Thank you for sharing it with us 😃
Thanks for coming along! I hope you enjoy the new video tonight
Great video & sound effects....exorcist!
I had fun with that
Great video George. You were right, big and clean store. Love looking at all the stuff. Can't wait for the second video.
Coming soon!

@@TheAntiqueNomad KS/MO... hopefully Friday!
Thanks for the tour George...looking forward to part two❣️❣️❣️😊
Me too! I’m glad you enjoyed it
Thanks George, another great episode. I really enjoy your videos, my favourite antiques channel! Your knowledge is amazing, and you always have so much interesting information to tell. What a surprise to see Arabia's pitcher for sale in Kentucky, and what a bargain, price tag only $ 59.00! Here in Finland this biggest blue design picher (which is the rarest colour & most valuable) would quite easily sell around € 180.00-220.00 in vintage/antique shops. By the way, it's not a bull, it's a cow ;-) This pitcher is called "Heluna", which was a very common name to give for a cow. Designed by Anja Juurikkala, and it was in production between 1954-66. It was made in four different sizes: 0.5, 1, 1.5 & 2 litres, and in four different colours: yellow, brown, green and blue.
Heluna! Thank you for that, we've always wondered over here. I don't know why I said bull, lots of people pointed out the udders. I love Finnish design and especially Arabia. A friend of mine in Michigan is related to Alvar Aalto and collects his designs.
George that was really fun 👍✌💕
Thank you! It's a great mall and I'm happy to share it with you
Just found you ! I love this!
Craig Kistner Thank you! Please like and subscribe and we’ll have more for you soon!
Wow-just discovered you. I have learned so much already. Another Canadian fan!
Elizabeth Pritchard I’m so excited to find a following in Canada! I go to shop in Vancouver at least once a year. Please subscribe and I’ll see you with more videos soon
I loved this tour! The oil cans are so familiar to me. My granddaddy worked for the Gulf Oil refinery in Port Arthur, Texas. And then moved to the Gulf Chemical Plant in Baytown, Texas in the 1960’s to make polypropylene plastic until he retired. My dad worked for Texaco Research on the site of the original TEXAS Oil Refinery, now Motiva. It is built across the highway from the Gulf plant, which became Chevron.
Beth Tatum interesting! I recall there was a horrible fire and explosion there back in the 1950s I think? The oil companies all had great iconic logos
Gosh! I am relatively new to your channel but I have learned so much already! Thank you so much for these informative videos! I don't understand how you could get a thumbs down from viewers???! Please keep them coming! I have a lot to learn.
J d that’s great! I’m sure some folks find it overwhelming or not their topic, I’m happy to have enough people find me that I can take a negative one! Welcome to the channel and I’ll see you tomorrow
Wonderful place!
It’s a good spot!
You are the best so much knowledge ❤️
I appreciate that! Please like, subscribe and tell your friends, new videos every Monday and Wednesday 8 pm eastern
You have a great booth with interesting stuff!
Thank you, Jules! I've expanded and will show that plus a lot more neat stuff from that mall in my next video.
Great video George! ❤
Love your excitement when you find a deal!
It gets me happy!
Wow, this just came up on my feed, & just when i thought i'd seen about all of your vids, George! I was actually at twin lakes a couple of weeks ago. It's massive & i was in there 2 hrs. So many pretties to look at. I bought a few things.
How cool! I'm so glad you got there, it's a big, good, well run mall
Thank you so much your awesome. Soon as I get my husband to help me pay for your book I will. I need to set up pay pal
I'm glad you're enjoying the videos! See you again soon
Fun ... I need a thrift store, antique store, flea market, estate sale or even yard sale fix.
Yes, I'm being good and waiting it out, haven't run to neighboring states that are open. Soon we'll cautiously be out there having fun!
The Antique Nomad we can hope. Take care. So enjoy learning from you. We have two antique/collectibles booths and an Etsy store.
Oh my gosh! So, I´ve been watching the Crazy Lamp Lady then to ¨SueMe¨ I was looking at the comments and notice ¨Another One¨ Jude West mentioned a UA-camr by the name of ¨The Antique Nomad¨ Love your channel too!
That’s great! I’m so glad you found me. Please like and subscribe and we’ll see you Wednesday!
Your in my favorite antique mall .
That's a great mall, always really well run and good stuff to see!
Thanks for letting me tag along 😊
Thanks for watching! Very glad to have you here
I have learned a lot from the Crazy Lamplady and she suggested your channel for more knowledge . Enjoyed this tour!
Thanks for coming to see! She's been very gracious in her recommendation. I hope you'll subscribe, like and tell your friends!
New subscriber. Loved looking at your booth. I like your intro and the fact that you said fair well and then went into the press the button thing, gives us the option of ducking out early (and we are watching). You looked good and sounded good. Any added sounds or music blended in perfectly. Try to have all your cabinetry the same. We found Billy cabinets from Ikea inexpensive and easy to add to. Uniformity helps people to see the product. It looks very tidy for those who have trouble with casual. You could hang some vintage reproduce on the wall to decorate as well. Your booth looked cheery! Everything was laid out very nice on the shelves. I love vintage things that are fun and make me happy! Look forward to seeing more. Love all the info.🇨🇦💗🇺🇸
Hi Cate! Welcome from Canada and thank you for both subscribing and commenting! I like Billy cabinets as well, I had uniform shelving in a few past Mall spaces but have been using furniture and throwing temp shelves in when things sold, not ideal. I had uniform shelving for shows but it wears out over time... Always a process!
The Antique Nomad , yes it is a process. Any how glad to see your show
That album cover is the best. I would have bought that too!
Kathleen McBride it made me smile
We would be salivating here in Canada if we saw a display of fiesta like ths one!
There's about twice as much at the Mt. Dora antique shows in Florida. Hopefully we'll be back next year to see
Just keep in mind the (old) Fiesta ware contains lead not recommended to use it for every day use more of a show piece. The pieces from the 1990's do not contain lead. I received two full sets as a wedding gift in 1992, and I am still using the turquoise set each and every day.
This place is wonderful. I will have to go there if they are still open. The video came out 3 years ago but some of these places made it through the covid epidemic so I am hoping. Have a terrific day and safe travels.
Thank you for sharing your incredible expertise and showing a real variety of items!
So nice of you! I hope you're a new subscriber and that I'll see you for a new video this Wednesday.
I follow Crazy Lamp Lady and she's mentioned you more than once, so I decided to go ahead watch one of your videos. I love going to Antique malls because as you said, it reminds me of things I've seen in my grandparents, or parents home growing up. BTW, I'm now subscribed. Thank you!
That is awesome! I really enjoy Crazy Lamp Lady, and I'm pleased she likes my videos too. I really want to see the online world of collecting develop the collegial nature and knowledge base I see in the real world of antique and vintage shops, shows and sales. Welcome!
I was on the Jim and Tammy show. It was done in Va. I lived in Va Beach and I believe they did their show in Norfolk. I'm not real sure about that but it was driving distance from your house. That was back in 68 or 69.
One of my best friends was on their show at age 3 or 4 in Memphis! He still has the signed album
Such great information love your videos!
Glad you like them! I sure enjoy bringing all this to you.
if i lived there i would buy the wicker set and that gorgeous gone with the wind lamp :)
Yes those were both good deals
Just found you and I love all things vintage and antiques so I just subbed great videos I'm binge watching your videos
Thank you! I’m glad you’re enjoying them and I’ll keep them coming, I really love helping people understand and appreciate these old things
My first episode, heard great things about you.
Oh, thank you! I'm so glad you found me.
I miss antique malls😫😷🦠
They’ll be back, social distancing is possible in a lot of them and they’re rarely super crowded
I need to binge watch today Watching waiting for you to get to 10,000
Aww well have fun and I'll see you here!
Great show George ! I love all of your shows.
denise mcnabb thanks Denise! I appreciate you following me
Good video.
My great aunt has an older version of the Polynesian lady head in of all places...her pantry. I always look at it when I’m there. She doesn’t really collect antiques or vintage but it was a souvenir from her honeymoon. I will have to ask what year she was married. I love the Arabia bull pitcher and can’t remember ever seeing any, but will now be on the hunt. 🌻
That is a fun family story! It definitely is of that era and I remember seeing and liking them in Florida as a kid
Hello George I just found your you tube channel ut was suggested by another you tuber I have been watching his channel is Real Nifty Vintage. And im just blown away of your knowledge of everything vintage antique! I will have to bing watch all your videos to catch up lol many blessings
Karen Tignor thank you! Enjoy catching up and we'll have a new video Wednesday
Darn, I can’t believe this is the one live I missed!!!! I have shopped there of course! Look at all your views on this video!!!!!
Fat Bird Finds I think people are ready to get out again! Part two is tomorrow
The Antique Nomad I will be watching for sure. We are putting out a challenge tomorrow....”fat bird finds your hometown” so we really hope you will participate!! We are inviting everyone to show off where they live and good Thrifting spots so that we can all plan some trips and meet ups!!!
Fat Bird Finds that’s great i was planning a hometown video although there’s no thrifting here I can talk about Dawson Springs
The Antique Nomad you can talk about whatever you like...even surrounding areas....like I think we will show a little footage of Kentucky lake...just whatever around you that would be fun to visit!
Thank you so much George. Love your narration and personally 😊
@18:52 pssst... it’s a cow... note the udders. Milk & cream pitchers. ;) 🐮 🥛
Great information, you’re a great teacher, more like The Antique Professor. Peace.
Lol You are right everyone out here in farm country thought that was funny. I've had a few UA-camrs call me The Antique Professor, I'll take that! Thanks so much
Hope to visit that place. Saw lots of things I love. Mostly Christmas 🎄
Andrea Joseph they have it year round!
I would get excited about furniture, but I'm sorry I only saw one item I would buy the 1958 chartreuse tiger for $20. I have to add I also liked the red flamingo bird you purchased ... nifty! I subscribed to your channel and hit the like button you are an excellent speaker and quite knowledgeable.
That was a good one! I like the 1050s stuff too, lots more of that in Florida than here
That was a fantastic tour!!! I all but gave up on the chat -- was attempting to crawl through the monitor, and get in there 🤣🤣 I kept noticing a tankard over your head, on top of one of the shelves, that, from a distance, looked like IOGA Warwick. I couldn't really tell for sure, from the distance, but it looked interesting. A lot of nice Carnival Glass there! The Fenton "Butterfly and Fern" is one pattern I'm not all that crazy about, though. Most all of the patterns that have butterflies in them, the butterflies always look "cookie-cutter", to me 😐 Northwood's "Springtime" is an exception to that, though, for me.
I really like the three pieces I got from you!!! I mean REALLY like them!!! That highchair figurine is FANTASTIC!!! The details are over-the-top phenomenal!!! The patina on it is superb, too!!!
Thanks for the tour!!! Looking forward to the next!!!
CONSTELLATION PEGASUS I’m so excited that you were pleased with your purchases! It is a neat mall and I’ll show more soon
I’m glad you’re enjoying your purchases! It’s a g nice mall and I’ll show you more next time
Hi George, missed the live, again, how am I so busy when trapped in my home? 😆 I love the Polynesian woman, only $11. yes please! Who could forget Jim and Tammy, they were wacko entertainment for sure. Thanks for the tour. Keep well ❤.
Used to see a lot of capodimonte on the shopping channel
Yes, I think a lot of European ceramics went to the shopping channels in the 1990s/early 2000s, North America was a good outlet for them
Love the Wedgwood faucet handles!!!!
I have the vase just to the left of the first item you selected. :)
Neat! I like showing malls and shows because people can see lots beyond just what I highlight.
@@TheAntiqueNomad My mother and I got the vase with Green Stamps 50 years ago. Are you old enough to remember Green Stamps? :)
I just stumbled across your channel, wow, jut wow
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it and hope you’ll like and subscribe. I’m a guest tonight in nevermore Antiques channel at 7 pm central
The Antique Nomad I just subscribed
Great video, George...coincidence but I bought a flamingo like the one in the video just hours before watching yesterday. Different glaze colors, however.
John Poindexter cool! What colors? I’ve seen lots of flamingoes but not that one before
I'm new to your channel and I love it! You are so full of information and I really like the detail. Binge watching at its finest 😊
Minerva Salazar thank you! I hope to keep finding inviting things and I'll see you with more soon
I am new to your channel and George, I love your voice and I’ve never seen anyone just go through a store and tell you all about the different items. Wow, I am so happy to have found you, I love all things old and in just a few videos of yours I have learned so much. You should have more subscribers so I’m going to share your videos, I can’t wait to go and look at all your other videos. Thank you for the hard work in putting these together, I am a happy gal....cheers from Las Vegas 🎲🎰
Bailey Clark welcome to the channel and thanks so much! I’m glad people are sharing the passion about all this vintage stuff. Not much of a gambler other than with antiques so I spent most of my last two Vegas visits with relatives in the antique malls
I am sure we would be surprised by the pieces the future generations will attach their memories to, cherish and collect... it is impossible not to consider the seductive powers of mass produced Chinese pieces of today. I sell MCM glass and ceramic, I am constantly trying to improve my work as curator and these days I will not list a piece if I don’t have the exact date or a designers name. I work in a niche and every time I try to set stronger boundaries to my work I am won over by the generosity of vintage. The possibilities of vintage always grab me by surprise, how time, even a short time, can offer unexpected value and spread appreciation to the most unexpected pieces... it is time over place...it will always be history over geography. I am betting on that.
You make a compelling case, and indeed there are some wonderfully designed modern pieces that are collected regardless of origin. I really should’ve spoken to the collectors of those Ertl pieces not having nostalgia for offshore items rather than making a blanket statement!
Mass produced pieces of Made in China will go along the wayside as many will not touch it during & after Covid-19. Americans will not forget how we have suffered during the pandemic.
I see a great deal of collectibles, primitives but so far very little in the way of furniture. We do, however, have one store chock full of vintage furniture, but it goes really fast! When someone purchases a Victorian home, they raid this store and buy up the lot of vintage furniture. Many dealers from California make the trip and bring truckloads back to the West to resell at a profit.
I agree I think because they’re not near population they figure people won’t buy furniture, which is why I bring furniture to my booth
@@TheAntiqueNomad ...Furniture is hard to find in most antique stores now because they take up so much room. Best to keep a binder with photos of the furniture along with the prices so buyers can flip through the photos. I use to have a booth years ago, and I was always clearing $1,500 monthly for a small 5 ft. x 5 ft. space when rent was $65 a month.
What an impressive place!
The Arabia pitcher looks more like a female cow than a bull, judging by the view of the belly area 😉
Yes true! It’s odd for certain
Hey George ! I've been binging your videos all week! Have you ever done any videos on Rubina Moser antique glass? Because I found a bowl and I'm told by a few people that's what it is.. Dating around 1890 . I know that you're not going to do free appraisals but I was wondering if you had a video about this Glass.
Enjoy your knowledge and passion
Thank you for watching and I hope you're having fun! I answered your Moser question in your other comment
a new subscriber i really enjoy how factual your videos ,i,m learning a lot, although i,m not sure how much of it applies here in ireland anyway fun to learn
Gail Davies hi Gail! I’m so glad you found my channel and are having fun. I’ll look for Belleek, Waterford and such for you when I’m out again
Just sub'd. really enjoyed your video and information!
Thank you! Tell your friends and we'll see you with a new video Wednesday
Love this! I would've grabbed that Jim and Tammy record too. (I thought the Keebler tree cookie jars were made by McCoy.)
d becerra some may have been Mc Coy also. Frankoma was so hot in the early 70s they couldn’t fulfill all their contracts and had Mc Coy make some of the Easter 1972 plates for Oral Roberts University for them. They likely did same with the Keebler cookie jar, it would’ve been the same time frame
@@TheAntiqueNomad thank you, that's interesting. My parents sold antiques in the '90's and they remember Frankoma being pretty hot then. (They were sort of EBay pioneers.) I wonder if Frankoma will or has come back a little. Some of it has kind of that earthy 70's look that people like now.
d becerra I think it will, my space in Seattle’s Epic Antique does well with it and it’s modernism focused there
@@TheAntiqueNomad Good to know, I've only watched a few of your videos and already learned so much. It's exciting, so thank you!
Awesome to watch you. So much knowledge, just been drinkin it all in
Hi, George! My friend and longtime antique mall coworker George Newport informed me that all male children are named George at birth, and only have their name changed when they make a mistake. I never forgot that! (Though I know better)
@@TheAntiqueNomad This is a true statement I feel. When I was a boy I almost messed up, it was close. Parents said they should name me pita, clearly they didn't but if I would have fully messed up today I would be called pita.
Just watch you on John N.M.A show few moments ago.....Great Interview.
Swamp Picker thanks I saw you in the chat! It was really good talking with him he’s got a good thing going
My mom had those treasure craft barrel decanters. How cool is that?
They were so popular and really made the company take off, they had to buy a big factory after Barrel Line became a hit
Fantastic video George, really looking forward to part2. What a fabulous mall! Could spent a couple of days there!
I have lol
George are you an Elvis fan like I am? Hubby and I went to Graceland three years ago and I was in heaven.
I loved Graceland! The Jungle Room (I've bought the same jeweled panther figure he had) and the TV room were my favorites
@@TheAntiqueNomad Elvis sure had some strange decor. The avocado green carpet on the ceiling and walls going up the stairs was something. Also the pool room with the yards and yards of fabric on the ceiling. Quite the "rec" room!
I gotta check outta the ne t video of what you were doing your booth.
I just got in and revamped it yesterday!
@@TheAntiqueNomad cool.
I can’t believe that antique store is open!!! I live in southeast Ky and NOTHING is open here. ☹️
I should’ve said what I did in the description in the actual video. This was pre recorded and they won’t open until the 20th at the earliest
I’m new sub!!!
Joyce Anderson Thank you for joining! Tell your friends and we'll see you with new video every Wednesday
Personally, couldn't stand Jim & Tammy. Ever. The quilt is really lovely; a shame that considering all the time and effort that went into them (both my mother and sister were hand quilters) they're not more expensive/valuable. Do you ever see any really early Bauer while in Kentucky since they started in Paducah? Wow, that kid's chair is really, really cool! It's a good thing you took that flamingo figure/vase, because if you hadn't I WOULD HAVE. Can you tell that I just do stream of consciousness comments as you go through?
That makes me so happy, I'd enjoy watching you do a reaction video to my video! I always look for early Bauer here but people in Kentucky are so crock crazy that the prices are high and I think it's all in collections. Jim and Tammy seemed fake all along in retrospect, although I think she had a change of heart after the scandal. I love quilts and wish I could find more and get more for them
I subscribed but I didn't get to ring the bell what's UA-cam doing everything has changed!
I'm not sure, I had one other viewer say the bell was the opposite direction of where I pointed, even though it's right on my computer
Cuyahoga County. Pronounced phonetically "Ky a hog a" I live there.
It's a confusing name to outsiders!
I noticed cpl pieces of salt glaze. I wonder if you skipped them because you know what I've come to know. I am E.TN Appalachian, so not far from this portion of KY. Lots of salt glaze dealers and collectors. It's expensive, at least 80% of what is out there is fake, and it's hard to tell the difference to the untrained eye. Many of the dealers honestly have no idea what they paid good money for to resale is fake. I finally know the difference and in the last decade I've found one, only one piece that was fairly priced and the real deal... And I screwed up and called it fake, so she wouldn't sell it to me when I found out I was wrong. My bad, but when you're spending that much money, better safe than sorry. On the other hand, when you have doubts, just stay quiet and don't burn the bridge. For what it's worth, the two pieces briefly in this vid right before min 4...are in awfully good shape, so prob repros. Just found this channel, and I'm down for it. Great vid!
I'm glad you're enjoying it! I do show salt glaze in my Collectors Carnival videos and probably elsewhere. You're right that there's a lot of reproductions, some very convincing (although an old piece really should have demonstrable wear, they weren't made just to look cute and sit there in the old days!). If I ever see a good side-by-side comparison of them, I'll have to highlight in a video.
Do you still have the house with all the antiques in it for sale? I live in Hanson and I would LOVE to shop your collection!
I do! I'm planning to restock but you can come anytime I'm there... Nov 11-15 is my next scheduled trip
My email is himes960@gmail.com if you dont mind to get in touch with me...just so I know where it is and we can come up with a time.
Please email me at theantiquenomad@gmail.com, I'm traveling and don't want to forget
Do you still have the flamingo? Also, I heard you say you do appraisals. I have an oak carved wine barrel end in honor of James Garfield. If I sent you some photos could you do an appraisal and how much do you charge? Thank you! I love your channel.
Crafty Jacki Hello! That sounds like an interesting piece. Please send email to me at theantiquenomad@gmail.com and I can fill you in on what I'd need to do an appraisal, the time involved depends on how you're using the appraisal (insurance vs estate planning vs reselling). Oh, and unfortunately another UA-camr bought the flamingo after seeing it here
Thanks, George. I will email you later today.
Funny they called it a bull because it looks like it has utters.....
Janis B yes it’s a bit of a misnomer
Would love to see prices
D y hi! I shot this when I was newer to the format, some later episodes will include more price info. I try to balance what resellers want to see in pricing versus what collectors want for info, it's a fine line but I will try to share price info as I'm able
@@TheAntiqueNomad Thank you!
George how much was the Pepsi sign? I am a dealer in PA. I would love to have that if it could be bought and shipped for a reasonable price.
Keith Beacham they were asking $125 but of course it’s been there awhile because of the closure. If you think there’s room in it you could contact the mall directly at twinlakesantiquemall.com
Thanks for the visit to Kentucky. I like the store but I have to say you backing up through the antique store is extremely nerve wracking and distracting. Maybe try a different technique.
A bill? With horns and an udder? 🤭
Lol I got lots of corrections on that one! Obviously a cow as you say
Dear George, Kentucky is NOT the Midwest.😉
Nancy Ruegsegger I got scolded about that by my host here as well! Being a border state, it seems like most Kentuckians view it as southern unless you're near the big cities. Even the governor seems confused
Lol. Definitely in the south but people in Louisville and northern areas sound Midwestern or northern
Liking the content but not liking you walking backwards, please don’t do that , it is making me nervous ,talking over your shoulder is fine and more natural !
I really don’t know why I did that it was one of the first times I filmed and I was camera conscious. I played soccer a long time and am trained for it lol
