There's something absolutely wonderful about sleeper trains, really cosy. I keep meaning to book on one just for the experience. Thanks loads for uploading this great video, you made a really nice record of this great journey.
Thanks. There's definitely something adventurous about sleeper trains, perhaps more so going the other way (ie going from Euston to Inverness or Fort William, as you start off heading out through the inner-city environment of north London, then wake up surrounded by the awe-inspiring scenery of the Scottish Highlands.
I used to have loads of OO gauge stuff; I haven't got anything set up now, but still got quite a bit of rolling stock stashed away. I've always liked the sleepers - the real ones, I mean - especially heading out of London to the Highlands (Inverness / Fort William) as you start off passing inner-city London and wake up next morning with remote mountains all around you when you look out the window.
I used to go on these back in 1994 on a student price All Line Rover when 87s used to be on the front hauling Load 16 - sleepers, seating and Motorail GUVs!! They were 37 hauled on Aberdeen and Inverness and Fort William legs too.
I did first class in October 2011 upto Aberdeen. Were behind a 90 ( dont know which one) upto Edinburgh and than a 67 to Aberdeen ( Queens Messenger it was). Hoping to do it again soon!
You can buy them at manned ticket offices, but you're best going through Scotrail, direct - phone or online. What you buy is a ticket valid for the service, then a sleeper supplement, on top. I already had an all-line rover ticket, so phoned up and booked just the sleeper. Book early for a Friday night from London - they get busy. If in standard class, you might want to go with someone you know, or pay for single occupancy, to avoid sharing a 2x bunk-bed cabin with a complete stranger!
Hi there how do you lock the door to the cabin..? do you have a key of some kind so you can leave your stuff in there and wander etc and also from the inside so no perves can get in whilst ya sleeping
At some point this becomes as riveting as a walking tour of your own passage way. Also, why the pictures of people only seen in reflection? Is this some existentialist film? Learn to edit.
+Petr Johan The video IS DELEIBERATELY EDITED IN THIS WAY ! The shots out of the window in the dark are not, as you suggest "existential" but are included for the pupose of the experience of the MK II carriage, which will soon disappear altogether from mainline scheduled service. The unique sound of the Mk II's brakes are the intended objective. Any people filed at all are incidental and effort is made not to deiberately film people - to do so without people's knowledge and/or permission may have legal ramifications - LEARN TO READ THE END CREDITS ! Finally, if the video is not to your liking, then don't watch. Simple. Better that than trolling a concept you clearly do not understand.

Andrew Bird, you can't get on this one at Carlisle. It only stops there to change drivers and pick up breakfast supplies
Looks good .
As long as every passenger is less than six stone and you never pass anyone in the corridor .
