Or, if you don't have a Camaro yet but are considering one, what would you like to know about it?

I have a 2021 Camaro LT1 as well and love it. Just passed 5,000 miles and still love this car. I did have one concern, I have the ten speed auto as well and idk if I am just noticing this but when rolling at 40-60 MPH I am getting a slight hesitation when punching the gas at those speeds, do you have that as well?? Thanks for the video!

@@JamesPlaysWithCars it's not terrible and it seems like when the car is trying to switch outta 4 cylinder mode to the full V8 mode. I tried using my paddle shifters and had no issues what so ever. So not sure really, but I am having my dealership look at it see if there is something. Thank you for getting back with me, The LT1 is an amazing Camaro!

@@ericpalmer3664 That is the AFM starting to fail. Look it up. That is GMs weak point on a once solid engine. If you have a manual transmission you don't need to worry about that failure. I know several people with calapsed lifters from the AFM. Some at very low milage. It will be a constant problem until you delete the AFM system by installing a new cam and regular lifters. Bye bye warranty but hello bigger cam.

I've got a 2022 LT-1 6-speed manual with about 1100 miles on it. Great car and no problems so far. Interior quality could be better, lots of cheap plastic that buzzes when cold. But I wouldn't ever think of getting rid of it, even with ridiculous $5+ a gallon gas prices that are still climbing out of control.

Flex fuel kit with a tune adds about 40 hp with e85. It’s a bit cheaper running e85 than it is to run 93 even after taking into consideration that e85 burns about 30% faster.

Part of the maintenance is wiping down the window seals with silicone lube. You can even pick it up at Walmart and it goes on dry and won't get all over your windows.

Im assuming you have the LT1 engine. The break-in period is actually in your manual on Pg. 199. It states not to brake hard, vary RPMs but do not exceed 4000 (so try not to cruise at the same RPM for too long.), don’t “lug” the engine or accelerate hard at really high gears (which would only be possible I imagine in manual mode), and don’t go above 80 MPH. I also got my first oil change very early (somewhere between 500-1000 miles)but it does not state that in the manual. Hope this helps!

i have a 2019 1LE and after my years of exp w different camaro’s, the LT1 is designed to be a budget 1SS. Not a bad thing for those who choose performance, but the quality is meant to be lower than the base model 1SS to make it cheaper. Not a bad thing, just wish you’d explain that before bashing Camaro’s as a whole

In all honesty the only thing l liked in my BMW was the seats where of amazing quality and the dash , the rest I rather be inside met 2ss, the Lexus was very underwhelming it sure didn't feel like I paid 65K for lol

Respectfully disagree. He's making notes about build quality and parts that are shared across trim levels. The 1ss and 2ss are higher trim levels and that money is going towards upgraded components such as brakes, engine cooling, and other things that make it more suitable for the track, but the sheet metal, engine (6.2 v8), and paint are all the same. And note... He still loves the car, just noting some issues around the margins.

I've had a 2023 LT1 Manual since December. I just got 27.9 MPG on a 1k trip and probably could have done better if I didn't do any 0-60 tests from HWY Rest Stop on ramps. I did Ceramic coat mine because the paint is one of my concerns. The only other issue I have is that sometimes my trunk won't open right away. I haven't been able to narrow down the conditions so I can report it. Other than that, the car is like a dream. I plan to keep it as long as possible because I love driving manual so much and they are disappearing. I will probably do under 8000 miles per year.

The Camaro is an interesting case. I really think it drives and handles like a smaller genuine sports car. In fact, the four cylinder version I would put up against the BRZ or Toyota 86. I'm just over 6 ft 1 so I find the cabin somewhat claustrophobic but I rented one and got used to it after a few hours.
Like you, I think it handles great and is nimble and fun to drive but the interior materials seem to me to be about two generations behind the current state of the art even for domestic cars. A 4 cylinder manual transmission convertible Camaro can be had for around $36,000 which to me is a great bargain and maybe worth putting up with some of the quality concerns.
I am still on the fence so I appreciate your updates and wish you the best of luck with your Camaro

Just hit 18k on my '21 LT1 and have only had issues with the most recent ota update frying the system. GM wasn't able to fix it over the air and OnStar wouldn't work (however they called me immediately on my cell). I had to wait 5 days just to get it into the dealer. The dealer couldn't flash the system so it had to be replaced....under warranty, thankfully. The tech issue really makes me nervous about future issues as things age. Hi James! I own a 2019 Camaro V6 with the RS package. I love mine! It's the only car I've ever owned that I'm still as excited to get into as the day I bought it. The LT1 wasn't around that year and the V8 was pretty big jump in price at that time so I went with the V6. Happy I have the RS package and also the technology package (the larger screen and Bose speakers are nice!) I wish I had the wireless Apple Car play though! I still have to plug mine in. I can't speak for what you have been experiencing with the V8 engine but I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary switching from 6 to 4 in mine. I checked the roof thing too on mine but didn't see that happen although I have a sunroof so maybe that makes a difference? The seat thing is odd though. It looks like we have the same seats but mine look fine. I love the color you picked! I'm anxious to hear future updates on how your ownership is going!

Thanks for sharing your experience, Scott! Yes, usually roof sheet metal is sturdier when there’s a sunroof because with a sunroof, there’s more mechanical stuff under the sheet metal, so more of it is supported from underneath. I’ll do a review on a wireless CarPlay adapter soon, so hopefully that will be helpful!

Fellow LT1 owner, estimating I'll get 15-18K out of the stock tires. I don't drive aggressively but most of the miles are NorCal twisties, sometimes salted mountain passes, so that might be more wear. No engine squeaks/jerks but I do hear the V4/V8 transition gasp/fart sound at times. Mediocre panel fitment, both doors have rub marks towards the rear of the sidesills and will prly break thru the paint eventually over the years. Wireless Android Auto does have drops and glitches, wired is OK, tested on multiple phones. Brake bite feels kinda weak (maybe a problem with just my car), and this is compared to 10+ 4cyl/V6/2SS Camaros I've driven extensively. Overall still worth it as a fun daily with good noise.

Great video! I like the way you state everything in a nice order. I just pre-ordered an LT1 that is waiting for dispatch so I have talked about Camaro with my friends who I used to track together. All of them suggested that I should not deactivate cylinders as it will not significantly improve fuel efficiency as well as "harm" the engine. I have also heard a lot of fellows in Camaro6 talking about getting new rims since the stock is too narrow for 455 torque, which is what I am planning to do. Seeing you have driven the stock LT1 for 10k miles, I would like to know how good is the grip with the stock setting?

Hi Kevin, thanks for the kind words! If you want better performance you’ll definitely want to get new wheels and tires. For the street, I love that it’s very easy to break traction a bit when it’s safe to do so, like accelerating onto a freeway on ramp or taking a left turn quickly when no one else is around. Since I prioritize entertainment at lower speeds, the stock wheels and tires work well for me!

I just passed 13,000 Miles in my LT1. My tires have not lasted as long, but that comes down more to driving style.
Overall I love the car, its my daily driver. I've gotten 30mpg on the hwy. Its very civilized and comfortable if you are driving normally. Steering and handling are excellent. Braking is good too. Really no qualms with the performance. So much fun to embarrass Porsche and AMG drivers. However the stock tires are dangerous if you drive with ESP off and aren't used to driving a high HP RWD car.
I have not had either of the engine sounds you mentioned. I had a 'break in' oil change and diff fluid change at 2000 miles, and another oil change around 9,000 so maybe this has to do with why I don't have an issue.
I agree the paint is thin and the sheet metal does not feel 'solid'. My 13 year old BMW M3 is better in this regard. However considering the car's price point and performance I think this is acceptable.

@DippinItUp1 the visibility and usability of the camaro is much worse than the 3 series platform. I don't mind the lack of viability you get used to it but the lack of storage , usable rear seats , and small truck opening should be considered before getting to car. Don't buy it without sitting in the car and seeing if it's for you. Compared to a 3 series the pros are that it's a much more aggressive driving position and overall a more fun car. But if you don't have a second car for family , clients really make sure it fits your lifestyle.

Appreciate your videos and honest assessment. I've had a 2022(3?) LT1 on order for a couple of months now, not too different from yours. Kinda curious as to how religious you were on following the "break in" that so many owners talk about. I'm also curious about your thoughts of doing more aggressive driving with this package, in particular, would you autocross this car?

    • @JamesPlaysWithCars
      @JamesPlaysWithCars  2 роки тому +2

Hi Cameron! Admittedly, I was not strict about specific steps for breaking in my car. For the first ~1000 miles, I just generally tried not to rev it out too close to redline and also avoided keeping it at constant vehicle / engine speed for extended periods. I probably should have clarified in the video that the breaking in I referred to was just the vehicle settling itself in despite the lack of strict procedures on my part.
For aggressive driving, the main limitation of the LT1 is its limited ability to deal with heat. The SS or ZL1 models have better heat management and would be more of a match for HPDEs. For spirited street driving and autocross you should have no problems running the LT1 stock. For autocross, over time as you learn the limits, you'll probably want to change out the tires/wheels for more grip. Hope that helps, and I'm excited for you to get yours!

I too, love the performance and NPP exhaust, especially the popping and crackling when slowing down in a lower gear (6-speed). Averaging 22 MPG in mostly suburban/city driving with a bit of tom-foolery here and there but nothing crazy and NO burn-outs. Seat was very comfy on my one interstate 100-mile ride. My father owns a 1st gen boxster and loves it and after test driving a 981 boxster S I agree with you that it's a brilliant machine that can make ANYONE look like they're a professional with a cold straight face on it the entire time, where as the LT1 I test drove a couple of days ago(and am currently in the process of convincing my wife is a moderately reasonable decision XD) has far more personality, which is what I'm looking for. this Porschephile might end up having to go pony car to have some fun.

Great review video! I have the same “jerk” when the AFM switches from 4 to 8. Almost feels like the same jerk when starting the car but a little less intense. Overall I love my 2021 SS 1LE! There is some misalignment of the front fascia that is only noticeable up close. I have also started to notice some interior components getting noisy, probably because they are expanding and moving with it getting hotter.

    • @JamesPlaysWithCars

Hi Chris! I probably would buy again despite these issues, because I don't keep cars for very long. If you own one of these Camaros out of warranty, then that might be a little more stressful.
I haven't brought the engine noise to the dealer's attention, mainly because I've been busy with work and other life priorities, and the engine issue isn't super urgent yet--the powertrain will continue to be under warranty, and I can wait till it gets louder / more obvious before bringing it to the service dept.

I'm thinking of ordering like yours. But I've been told you have to find a dealer that actually has an open slot for a Camaro build and that could take months, as in many to find one. Also, did your dealer add any ADM, sell at MSRP or give you any discount?

    • @Tideraa
      @Tideraa 2 роки тому +1

@@michelfortier9563 Yes its true atleast to my knowledge you need a spot. I was 3 days late of the deadline to order a 2022. So I was relatively new to the list. My dealership said anywhere from 6-12 months wait time. I bought several cars from my dealership so they gave me a ton of discounts and rebates to reduce the cost.

I own a black 2020 LT1 manual trans with 6,500 miles on it. Adhered to break in procedures. No funny noises, mechanical issues or mechanical concerns at all. Only minor mods so far which are CAI, axle back exhaust, rear spoiler, and skip shift eliminator.
However! The first rock chip was in the first few hundred miles therefore quickly got the car partially clear wrapped after seeing how easily and quickly it happened. The clear coat is very thin and super hard to work with. This is especially noticeable in black. When you (lightly) polish the car use a more protective, longer lasting polish which does help in maintenance washes for a while. But those scuffs you are seeing will happen and a partial clear wrap will help save the paint in most cases. I realize we will still have to baby this paint no matter what.
Everything else has been very very good! The same as you, I really enjoy learning the car as time goes on. So damn capable for the street and gets plenty of attention!
