My original comment said that I wasn't happy because a ridge was left on my 2 front teeth BUT my dentist had not finished. She give a whitening kit to use for a week to brighten my teeth which is why the ridge was not filled in. I had these spots from a teenager and it effected my confidence for years and stopped me smiling at people. Now that she's finished....... I'm really pleased with the result so much so I wanted to cry and I NEVER get like that :) Thanks to the people that invented it and thanks to my dentist ❤

Pretreatment for infiltration with ICON: Rinsing and cleaning of the teeth
Etch: Application of ICON-Etch
Rub in the etching gel
Let it act for 2 minutes, after that rinse off
Dry: Apply ICON-Dry
Let it act for 30 seconds
Visual inspection
- If insufficient result or the lesion is not accessible, re-apply the previous steps
- If good masking of white spots or the lesion is accessible, proceed with the next steps
Insertion of separation sheets (optional)
Infiltration: Apply ICON-Infiltrant

Since I was young my teeth looked really unsightly in the morning with chalky white spots after they dried out overnight. By mid-afternoon once the enamel was rehydrated they'd look completely different - almost normal. I think it was mild-moderate fluorosis.
Had this treatment done 2 months ago. Results are life changing. My teeth look healthy in the morning now even if I mouth-breathe all night long. They look as good now as they did the day of the procedure 2 months ago. I am hoping it lasts.

@@jibbo123 it's going to vary so much by region and by dental practice (especially since insurance isn't involved), but I paid about as much per tooth as a small cavity filling would cost in my area. A bit less than that actually. I did 6 teeth.

@@jibbo123 Find a dentist who has done a lot of these. If they mention it on their website that's a pretty good indication they'll know what they're doing. I had mine done in Marriotsville MD. It's been 7 months and the teeth still look great.

My daughter suffers from fluorosis . I feel so horrible because I did this to her. I made her baby formula with nursery fluoride water. I did not know this would harm her and cause this. I trusted the water was made for babies and it was better for her than tap water. She's such a beautiful girl that hates to smile. I cried so many times about this.
I had okish teeth but when I visited the dentist ig he made that liquid for me and it harm my tooth so much they're weak now... It's been two years and it's just getting worse now.. all I can say is that dont use toothpaste that has that chemical.. and if possible get this treatment "icon treatment" I can't get it since I believe it's not done in India anywhere :) maybe I have to get crowns or something but you can save her teeth.. and also keep her mouth hydrated and avoid acidic fruits and liquid... Maybe make her smoothie of those fruits and let her drink it through straw... Don't worry.. it will be fine

I had this treatment done today! I was the first patient my dentist had ever tried this on. I found out about ICON via Tik Tok and mentioned it to my dentist at my last cleaning. She was very intrigued, but had never heard of it. Thankfully she was willing to try it for me and we were both pleased with the results. My case was pretty severe. I had 8 teeth done total, all on the top. The treatment did help tremendously, but it didn't get rid of all of the discoloration/white spots. So my question is can this treatment be repeated to achieve maximum results or is it a one-time and your done thing?

As a dentist, I wonder, is there any scientific study about the long-term success of this treatment? The treatment seems good enough, but are there patients with long-term follow-up for its persistence? How long would this treatment last for an optimal patient who avoids acidic foods and has good oral hygiene?
I had this done on 6 of my teeth 12 months ago for moderate fluorosis. For me the aesthetic improvement was dramatic and the results have been stable over the last 12 months; it seems permanent. I drink mostly coffee and seltzer water.

How safe is this thou.. since in this condition the enamel is usually brittle or soft.. and continously etching it to match the colour.. this is just an anesthetic approach...
I completely agree with you, I regretted this treatment, it is expensive and the result is not satisfactory, the color of my teeth was gray on white and the spots were not annoying and no one sees them, when I did the treatment it became yellow and I used to visit the dentist every month for polishing, this is what doctors did not tell you Dentistry, my question is will my teeth return to the way they were after the treatment is gone?

I started looking for a dentist that would put veneers on my teeth. One dentist told me that he didn't want to shave down my natural teeth for veneers as they were healthy, just had the fluorosis spots. He found this alternative. I appreciated that and now he's my new dentist. He charged $150 per tooth for the treatment, a far cry from $1,200-$1,500 per tooth for a veneer. I am very happy with my new smile and it still looks good two and a half years later!

When I was in my early 20s, I went to a dentist to get treatment done for flurosis, and she gave me composite veneers, but removed so much enamel. It was heartbreaking. After going from dentist to dentist, I found one who gave me a proper treatment and got porcelain veneers on the 4 front teeth. The only thing is that the flurosis on the teeth beside the veneers have white spots and do not make my smile look uniform. I wish the 1st dentist had not removed so much enamel unnecessarily, and I wonder why she did this. Anyway, hoping that the white spots can be removed through this so my teeth can match the veneers. :'-(

Your dentist didnt know what they were doing. literally this process is using acid to remove the layer that is white. they then polish the teeth to make it look uniform. You need to get a new dentist. recommend using potassium reminerlizing gel or sensodyne tooth paste which helps stop sensitivity .
hey is it specific for dental tooth or it can be used by cosmetic teeth whitening technicians as well?
So I had brown stains fluorosis on my upper teeth (cus México water) I had something called antivet put on my teeth it took out the brown stains but left my teeth yellowish and with white spots. I want something that will actually clear my teeth, I don't want to get venneers cus they reduce the teeth way to much. Is there offices that do this in the LA area? And is it safe to do this after I did the antivet treatment thanks.

(1) You judge by visual inspection: If the spots disappear in the first 2-3 seconds after application of Icon-Dry, the lesion is ready for infiltration. If the stains are still visible immediately after application of Icon-Dry, it should be etched again.
(2) No, you do not need to rinse again before the etching process.

How are the white spots actually removed? Was any abrasion done to the tooth surface at all? Also, no resin was put into the tooth?
The resin is the last step. White spots are removed through dessication and re-infiltration of the enamel hydroxyapatite crystals.
Usually there’s no abrasion to be done, only etching to open up the pore system of the tooth. The light refraction index of the infiltrant (a highly fluid special resin that penetrates deep into the enamel) is similar to that of natural enamel. Therefore, after light-curing, the infiltrated area visually matches the healthy tooth.
Ok, that's good to know that no tooth structure is removed for this, but I am not sure I'd like resin to replace my tooth structure either. Is there any solution where tooth structure doesn't need to be removed or replaced with resin for the white spots to go or be invisible?
There might be a kind of misunderstanding. The Icon resin doesn't remove any tooth structure. It rather only penetrates into the tissue that already had become porous due to the fluorosis or cariogenic activity.
dmgdentalEN exactly, which is essentially what you do with any resin filling.. this is just less invasive way of doing the same thing. 👍🏾

Hello, thanks for your question! Infiltration treatment is microinvasive, i.e. successful treatment requires the removal of a few micrometers of enamel. However, this is out of all proportion to invasive treatment methods such as filling therapy.

I have severe fluorosis and had already went for my dental check up to get it remove. My dentist suggested that i do bleaching for it and arranged for me to get it done in 5 months, however i am not convinced that bleaching/whitening could get rid of my white spots. Do you think bleaching could get rid of the white spots?

We recommend bleaching / whitening before Icon treatment for optimal results. In this case, the recommended waiting time between whitening and infiltration is two weeks.
Concerning bleaching after infiltration, we can not make reliable statements yet (the two weeks waiting time might be approbiate here as well). In any case, please talk to your dentist, as we as the manufacturer of the product "Icon" cannot replace the medical diagnosis and treatment plan.

The infiltration treatment can only be successfull in cases in which the lesion is not cavitated. Very early proximal caries can be treated before a cavity occurs. Therefore, the infiltration of early proximal caries lesions can prevent a filling treatment. Concerning the cost - those depend on the individual case. Hope that helps!

My dentist just did this treatment and they're still a few teeth with white marks. Should I redo it a second time? They did it just like this video the marks are from braces 25years ago

thank you for your message. This is something that might have happened, considering the time that the braces where removed, due to a thicker and more acid resistant layer on top of the white spots. Based on that, the infiltrant probably didn’t penetrate totally. In this case it could be possible to repeat the treatment, polish with a fluoride-free prophylaxis paste, and going through every step again - especially doing the important infiltration step for a longer time (could be up to 15 minutes).

- polishing brush to clean in first
after icon treatment
- silicone bur to clean and first polishing
- polishing system : HRI Enamel plus shiny with 3 polishing paste (3 micron 1 micro and alumine Oxyde paste) with the 2 brush

Dear Dan, The infiltration treatment with Icon is meant to be executed only once. So, a repetition of the treatment is not necessary. Because the porous tooth structure caused by fluorosis or caries will be sealed when using Icon, a repetition is also not useful.
