Europe Divided? Xi Feted in Serbia and Hungary, Chided in France | Taiwan Talks EP367

China's president has returned from his first visit to Europe in nearly five years. Xi Jinping chose the 25th anniversary of NATO’s bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade to visit Serbia. He also visited France, marking 60 years of diplomatic ties, as well as Hungary, celebrating 75 years. While Aleksander Vucic and Viktor Orban lavished praise on Xi, Emmanuel Macron's goal was to seek concessions. The French president asked Xi to reconsider China's support for Vladimir Putin in his war in Ukraine. He also wanted Xi to address the EU-China trade imbalance. In the end, analysts say Xi's trip only served to highlight divisions in European unity.
