- A live performance of "Can't Stop Killing You" on a particular American network TV program with a red-headed host. Please do not mention the name of the host, the show or the network in the comments as that's how clips get removed and accounts get deleted. Thank you.
Kirsty was soooo cool, she had a pretty cool band with her as well, so talented, left a big hole in peoples lives and British music. Never forgotten.
You guys are so lucky to have met this amazing woman. Fantastic lyricist, incredible talent. Kirsty makes me so happy, and I'm sad that she had so much more to give us.
I love Kirsty! I saw her in Chicago at the Double Door. So unassuming. She was so surprised when people yelled out lyrics at times, like she couldn't believe people knew her music that well.
Shame really, I was lucky enough to see her in Telford in the early nineties and was totally blown away. RIP Kirsty we miss you.
this was one of the first songs i ever heard by her and i was won over immediately.
We met her a couple of times when she played Chicago. Brilliant singer and songwriters, but still a wonderfully down-to-earth and warm woman. Her death was horribly tragic and still sadly unavenged, but she died saving her children - just about the most honorable way to go I can imagine. Shit...I'm getting misty-eyed just writing this. She is missed. One day I plan to visit Soho Square for the gathering on Kirsty's birthday.
thank u so much for posting this, we need to keep the memory of Kirsty alive by sharing & enjoying the marvelous musical gift she gave us....love u Kirsty, thank you!
Great song; great band - love the lead guitar.
another way cool song is "i just woke up". it's got such a haunting melody. very beautiful song, ese!
RIP Kirsty MacColl
fabulous fabulous; dusty springfield, marianne faithful...
Can't stop loving her....
she saved her son's life in that accident. Great mom too.
@k8fan That's right! I think she gave a shout out to the Smiths as well. And everyone yelled out "Big Money!" during Innocence and she was just amazed. She was really sweet.
@caveatemp I was at that show. She introduced "They Don't Know" by yelling "God bless Tracy Ullman!" We met her after the show and took a picture that is the one on her Wikipedia entry.
Never seen this, its great, Thanks for posting :)Kirsty was great!!
great song!
I remember seeing this performance at the time. Probably the only time I watched this show, as, along with a certain gap-toothed host, this gentleman is one of two late night hosts whose appeal I've never understood.
the guitar player is gary sanford, he's joe jacksons guitar player to.
She brings it on this one. Hardly recognized Gary Sanford (from original Joe Jackson Band) with his long hair. He's a great talent.
In a dream you saw a way to survive and you were full of joy.
@Marchant2
Great post. I agree. I'm still pissed. He never even apologized. God bless her. She died saving her child.
Children Plural meaning 2, She saved both of her 2 Sons.
I didn't know she was ever on American TV. She is nearly unknown here-- I never even heard of her until she was already gone.
talented and beautiful
Testament to all the men who let her down in her life in the end I think, her catalogue is rife with it...Ironic..."When you're swimming in the water I'm the hand that drags you under"
I'll look around, but she wasn't on American TV very much.
Conan looks so young! This must of been around 1995 or so.
1993
Do you know what year was this clip? Great performance by Kirsty. Thanks
She was great wasn't she? Such a tragic thing to happen.
Graham! It's tropicalbrainstorm from the kirsty forum - will you be at Soho Square this year?
The name of the host is in the text at the start of the video. That's the way I do it, and it seems to work pretty well at keeping my videos from being deleted.
There is a song I once heard believe it or not in the bathroom in an Olive Garden, that sounded like something Kirsty would have done but I have never found it. It has that kind of 40s torch song feel to the female vocals that Kirsty sometimes does. It was about a woman discussing the different ways she could kill a man. The background music was that big band with a Mexican influence that Kirsty used in "In these Shoes?" Any ideas?
I wonder if Adele lists Kirsty MacColl as one of her influences.
They are nothing alike though...Adele is boring....
Adele is awful.. Her lyrics are drively adolescent pity parties lamenting being dumped ... or unrequited male interest . Get over it you whaling dull manatee ! Kirsty maccoll would be rolling in her grave at the comparison. A witty lyrical poet with depth, humor vulnerability and intelligence to burn.. = Kirsty maccoll! She was not a droning over paid tosser that sang cliched nauseating shit in high falsetto.
@Marchant2 he got away with murder while a beautiful lady lost her life.. It sucks
@Scruffmuck thank you! : )
ah! already thought; recognise this guy but who is he?
Not her best album - some good bits, but not a patch on "Tropical Brainstorm" or "Kite"
was trying to decode too ... :-)
@k8fan Nope. That's not it either. I swear the first time I heard In These Shoes? I swear it was one of hers. The smooth torch song voice, the big band feel to the music ... and something about blowing your brains out or opening your skull or something to that effect but in a real dead pan tone. Meant to be funny but sounding nonchalantly serious.
I wonder what is written on her t-shirt
Newcastle In a dream you saw a way to survive and you were full of joy.
her best song i find "these shoes"
sorry to say but i find this a bit dragging along.
its conan the barbarian
@phoenix3370 That sounds like her song "Bad"
I've been an awful woman all my life
A dreadful daughter and a hopeless wife
And I've had my eyes on that carving knife
Oh you've been lucky so far
I'm not crazy no I'm just mad
I don't want to be sorry, no I want to be glad
It's a feeling inside that I have always had
So look out world I'm about to be bad
...but that's not really Mexican.
I can't stop killing the owner of the boat that killed her. It ticks me off she's gone and the one responsible is going on his merry way without any repercussions.
Elvis Costello isn't good enough to be the male Kirsty MacColl. Kirsty MacColl is more of a female Morrissey.
letter man is so creeeeeeeppy
good she went to this show instead
