    My god Liza was really something, she was her mother’s daughter and more. Recently watched an interview of her saying her mother realised during this time that Liza was not just good but also competition. Liza took her mother’s torch and held it high. Two legends in their very own right! What a legacy

      DropTheOscar ASMR Judy did ALWAYS dote on Liza.. one interviewer mistakenly called her LEEza. She corrected it and indeed said she was better. Ah... what talent! If Hollywood had elegance and talent like this again! It’s pure magic isn’t it? This is TRULY a treasure!!

      you could see the mother in Judy when she raised Liza's mic, and told her to stay on key. You can tell they sang at home. It's amazing to watch. Thank you. Tonight was a Judy Garland TV night for me, a marathon!

      @@abrahamanaya2100 no she was very proud of Liza. By this time they had sung together many times on Judy's television series in the early 60s Judy knew her daughter was going to be a great talent from the time she was a child in the same way that Judy herself was. Judy wanted Liza to have a normal childhood so never put her in anything she did until Liza told her mother she was ready to handle the pressure.

      Liza's childhood was far from normal, considering her mother's erratic behavior, trust of all of the wrong people, poor financial management and, basically, leaving Liza to raise her younger siblings when they weren't with their father, it's, frankly, a miracle that she turned out as normal as she did.

      ronhronh: Oh, YESSSS! I'm an old soul that tends to long for people & places of long ago....Remember that TV Series 'Quantum Leap'? I used to watch that & wonder, if he was such a brilliant scientist, why couldn't he visit the places he CHOSE to visit? I understand that he went where he was truly NEEDED, but always thought it would be great to have the choice to go visit a long ago hero & relative that he would like to spend some time with. If that technology ever becomes a reality, I'd LOVE to go spend some time w/ Judy - as a neighbor/friend (assuming she wouldn't slam the door in my face). LOL. I have a long list of people I'd like to visit from long ago, but Judy is def in the top 3 on my list!
      Regarding the concert shown here, I heard Liza on a talk show speaking about her memories of it - the first time she ever shared the stage w/ her Mom. She was VERY young here - only about 18 or 19 yrs old......but had a couple of plays under her belt already & was def showing the developing voice that we've all come to know & love. Liza said, "We started the show w/ Mama singing a couple of solo songs....Then I entered the stage & we sang together like we always do at home (one can only imagine the impromptu concerts they gave in their living room, over the years). I remember being submerged in so much love from the audience - and it totally inspired me & gave me so much energy! Then, about halfway through the concert, it became so blatantly obvious to me that I wasn't singing w/ Mama anymore.....Judy Garland had entered the stage! Like everyone else, I could only sit back in awe at her performance. I tried my best to perform the rest of the concert & do my best....But it was obvious who was in charge....and who this super loving crowd came to see!"
      I've always admired Liza for giving proper kudos to her Mom. There never seemed to be any type of competition between them (like there often is between women). Liza is ALWAYS the FIRST to say that she never has tried to imitate her Mama - "How can you imitate perfection?", I've heard her say repeatedly in interviews (where ignorant interviewers often compare her voice to her Mama's voice).
      Judy was one of a kind. Liza is also one of a kind. Someone else commented here - Apples & Oranges. WE (fans) are just extremely lucky to have this footage available and also lucky to have someone post it on YTube for us to enjoy! Thanks so much for posting this awesome concert!

      With all due respect to Liza, but, she can't compare to her mom. I'll give Liza the nod when it comes to dancing. She doesn't do the same kind of dancing her Mom did. Her mom did tap, and ball room dancing. Liza did more modern dance, than anything else. Singing wise, there is no comparison. Judy beats everybody going away.

The slight edge that Judy will always have no matter who the performer is that every time the viewer feels as if Judy is giving her heart, soul, arm, legs, and everything else. No performer has ever topped Judy in this way and nobody ever will. And obviously her voice is absolutely GREAT.

    I've given up trying to figure out what Liza told Judy at 15:51 after Judy took a grab at Liza's microphone and Liza rolled her eyes. Years later Liza discussed it in an interview. She thought, at the time, "You never did that during rehearsal, Mama!" Judy would take another snatch at the mike later, trying to throw Liza off her game, surprised that Liza was doing a little too well. Later, Liza might be in Judy's audience and come up for a quick chat or sing a solo, but Liza never worked with Judy again.

    When I was a very young gay man and was first meeting other gay men I did not understand why there was a big portrait of Judy Garland in their homes so often. All I knew her for was "The Wizard of Oz". When I was a more experienced gay man and a bit more cynical I still didn't get the adulation. I just thought she was an emotionally messy and victim queen of perpetual angst, booze, and tranquilizer-driven romantic drama. But now? I get it. It's the vulnerability, the raw emotion; I see why people adored her and why gay men bow at the Judy altar. Once you live a little, love a little, get dumped a time or two, get your heart broken and feel like shit for breaking someone else's you realise there's a Judy Garland in us all but most of us hide it .

    So funny how Judy is putting the mic closer to Liza's mouth, like she's not holding her mic close enough at 14:44 and 15:53 (you can here Liza say to Judy something like 'stop that bossing'). It's so mother daughter like and it's not very subtle of Judy as we know she wasn't at that time. But such a great performance of the both of them and a magnificent band.

      I saw Liza in a clip of an old interview, and she was appalled at this scene-stealing ploy. She vowed never to work with Judy again, and she didn't. • @lapislazuli7876
      @lapislazuli7876 5 років тому

      I think what makes Judy great is not her vocalisation. It's more that she is a sublime actress and she "acts out a song" - she doesn't tell it, she sells it! Judy was the best saleswoman Hollywood and the American Song book ever had. Louis B. Mayer and those chauvinistic, exploitative Jewish studio bosses - as bad as they were - formed her in that sense. They didn't (despite what Jewish cultural theorists try to argue and take credit for) bestow her with her natural gift. That is God-given. But as sad it is, we all rise through challenges and hardship. Even abusive situations - the way we would see Judy's young teen life nowadays. But it's the way Judy moves from soft opening to fierce crescendo, the soft and tender pauses, how she shifts register, hesitates, holds the microphone, raises her hands: it's all in the kinesics and the posture, the silences between notes and not the notes themselves (which are often too hoarse), the performativity rather than what many people mistakenly believe is a "masterful voice." There were and are greater voices than Judy's. But there were not and are no greater sellers of song or interpretators of lyrics, than Judy Garland.

      @@VanessaCarrMusic You're right, unfortunate. Liza has been very careful over the decades to edit herself, but she let slip one time regarding the mike-pushing incident. Liza was doing well so far in the concert... a little TOO well, and Judy didn't like it. The business with the mike was to throw Liza off-guard and imply she wasn't being heard. (Judy wouldn't have dared to mess with Streisand's mike!) Asked about it later, Liza said it took her by surprise, and thought, "You didn't do THAT during rehearsal, Mama!"

    • @CharlieChilders-wm9gb

      @@akrenwinkle I've watched this medley many times trying to figure out what is actually happening behind the scenes. You're probably right, but if you watch and listen, Liza's voice does seem to over power Judy's voice and the blend is not balanced properly. Did you noticed at one point Liza is getting aggravated and takes the Mike and brings it up with her hands like she's about to perform fellatio. This obviously was only a private inside perk that was only meant for Judy to see and no one ever saw it. After watching the mic business with Judy a number of times and laughing at them. I accidentally saw this. 😱🤔 no, I'm not that perverted! 😌♥️
