I think the idea was that it would use it's scanners to "explore" the contents of nearby ships, that's why it has so many guns, no mapping functionality and a larger than expected cargo hold.
Videos about the Corsair are why I started playing Star Citizen a year ago. Fell in love with the ship before I ever stepped foot in game. My starter was a Drake Cutter, and I got a free MPUV for using a referral code during Luminalia. The wife upgraded the MPUV to a Corsair for me for Valentine's Day. The room just forward of the cargo bay is (maybe) going to be the engineer station, the scanner station, or a combo of the two. Scanning and engineering aren't in-game yet, so who knows. I'd say the Corsair is a decent frontier explorer. Good living quarters, good cargo, above average firepower. Yeah, she wallows like a pig in atmo, but that's not what it is designed for. It's great in the "pre-emptive salvvage" gameplay loop, if you get my meaning. Drake isn't about looks, it's about attitude. Drake just works.
This ship maneuvers like a big rocket water heater, it makes worrying noises when maneuvering, but my God I love it so much. Useful in all roles, personally I find it aesthetically beautiful (the interiors remind me a lot of the ships from the Alien saga) and with a ton of frontal offensive capacity: with 4 size 5 gatlings it obliterates a Hammerhead in a few seconds
I own both the 600i Explorer and Touring, the 400i and a 315p BUT... I also own 7 Drake ships. Although I do love the luxury of Origin I also really like the gritty Industrial feeling you get with the Drake ships. When I think Deep Space Freighter from traditional Scifi the closest match is the Caterpillar. As for the stated purpose for the Corsair as an Expedition Class Explorer it can fit that role but it's basically like most Explorers in SC just a really good "Jack of All Trades" ship. The Constellation Aquila and the 400i both suffer from this to some degree as well. I do however feel your rating was spot on for this ship and an honest review. This Drake fan isn't upset at all. As for the whole Origin vs Drake debate I usually just stay quiet as you can love both just for different reasons. I know this personally. I'm sure I'm not the only one. 😎
Definitely not alone. I’m not a fan of the luxury thing but have and love the 600i even more so after we get the rework. I like all ships in game as long as they fulfill a role to high mid to high standard regardless who makes it. Irl though F*** Ford
You have 4 size 5 hardpoints and 2 size 4 hardpoints. How you choose to equip those is on you but that’s what you have and it’s nice. The Cargo hold isn’t that big but it’s well made enough to be the smallest ship which can carry a storm. It’s there to explore the personal goods on other ships.
With the amount of ammo that comes with the AD5B's, it's good for at least 2 bounties. After that you'll probably want to repair or turn in your haul anyway. Btw, it's not that the less weapons you have the more damage it does. It's that the less weapons you have, the longer it lasts before cooldown. With 2 or 4 you put more damage downrange but with 1 or 2 you last longer. Overall, the Corsair and Taurus are great but more times than less, I've found myself running out of cargo space trying to load the REAL payment of drugs and cargo. For that reason, the M2 Hercules has been my go-to ship of choice for ERT's. Two M7A's spank. Plus the 522 scu of space to load up the booty.

I think your last line sums it up nicely ... it explores vast distances to find new people to pirat ... errr ... do business with ;) By the way, that back section is Engineering. I don't know what kind of special exploration scanny stuff it has, but we won't really know until the exploration gameplay loop is in game. Other than that, it's basically the perfect multirole ship. Solid offense, great living space, can carry decent cargo, can fit more vehicles than other ships its size, including the exploration focused Ursa rover. I too got it in this fancy color a few days ago.
it is an explorer well if your exploring other peoples cargo ^.^ and it can fit the two storm tanks as well its a very nice stip that is multi roll. tho it is drake and i have seen videos of emm people that might be miss understanding the exploring part.
Corsair + Eternity paint = feelings. But as long as I had one, I never even opened the cargo bay. I put one back in my hangar to get that BIS skin but it is getting melted again as soon as possible.
If you listen closely somewhere alone, you can almost hear the Mandalorian theme music playing in the background. This ship will make a fine bounty hunting ship now and later. #ThisIsTheWay Also, it will make a great explorer. We've yet to know what all that entails. I just wouldn't go too far out solo seeing how it doesn't have a medical suite.
I have it in my hangar since day 1 but never taken it out. These wings man 🙈 It's also missing some jump seats in the back like the Cutty Black. Not sure if I will upgrade it somehow.
I absolutly love this ship so much. I enjoy everything drake makes but this ship is next level fantastic. The doors will fuck you though. If you get caught in a door thats closing youre going into the wall, even if its just a small part of you.
I mean an explorer ship doesnt necessarily have to have less guns, It needs to be able to defend itself too. Be happy that they gave u extra guns. Im not a fan of the Corsair either but the 600i has an explorer variant that hits like a truck. It can literally 3 shot small to medium ships or maybe even large. Other people even say that the 600i explorer variant has too much firepower for an exploration ship and i own it myself as well. With its firepower i use it for everything wether it be ERT, Exploration, or Cargo transport. So your criticism about the Drake Corsair not fitting the role of an exploration ship coz it has too many guns making it look like a gunship seems invalid. Long story short a ship having extra features that may or may not fit its role doesnt hurt at all and can be taken as a bonus. More bang for ur buck.
Just depends on how much you enjoy the project and if you want to support the development. Feature wise this ship has many things not yet available but someday will be. You can get a starter pack for cheap and buy this ship in game, no one is forced to pay anymore more than the starter pack amount with real cash as 99% of ships are available in game.
they mislabeled it as an explorer. its a search and rescue ship. it searches for other ships and rescues their cargo.

Those wings have control surgaces. When that part of atmo slight comes in I expect to see quite a difference in the flight response.

Only bad thing on this ship is the starboard wing...it's a liablity, especially with the NPC's trying to ram you into oblivion

So many people seem to think all ships should handle great in atmo. Not every ship is a fighter.
Fighters aren't the only aerodynamic ships you know.
And not every aerodynamic ship is primarily build for combat.
