Mervyn Kaukau's young grandson, Kayleb only 19 is now also a prolific guitarist playing Jimi Hendrix, Santana and John Mayer so good, its been a blessing meeting this young man and having the opportunity to video his performances. Certainly missed this amazing band in those days as Countdown was aired in Western Australia all the time.
The 1860 on Lambton Quay Wellington City. My father was a contractor for the Lion Brewery and had work to do at the 1860. Golden Harvest were rehearsing and so I walked to the front of the stage to watch and listen. Amps were cranked and the lead guitarist was riffing away pedaling his wah wah. Tight jeans platform sole shoes and an afro worn with attitude. Cool. 1970s New Zealand music.
I remember being twelve years old and loving this song ,now I'm fifty five and same,same..,I met Karl in the Eighties,we both worked in office at the A.E.P.B.,we didn't know each other from a bar of soap, but I would have morning tea and share a table, what a gentle spoken lovely man....what a band, wow......
These guys played our school ball not long before this was released, I remember that even then we knew they were a cut above the bands we usually had. Great memories!
A timeless kiwi classic. I was twelve when this came out and was blown away to see Maori boys on the charts. The Kaukau brothers with lead singer Karl Gordon. Kevin Kaukau (lead guitarist) had a spot in the film Mt Zion with Stan Walker. Still wearing his Jimi Hendrix hat and playing mean guitar. Wonder what happened to them?
yeeahhh and yes they out their very much alive !!!!!best ever kiwi natives from aotearoa TUHOE descendants i was still a baby when this came out and it ROCKED then is still is now greatest memoirs ever!!!!
these guys came to our school in Dec 1977, the guitarist ( not saying which one )was handy on you, if you know what I mean ( bum pincher). Not that I minded. I was 14 but looked 18 though THE 1970S Handy guys everywhere. No sweat I forgive, no harm done. Great sound loved it!
OMMFG! Thanks to UA-cam, for bringing this back into my life, classic nostalgic one hit wonder a blast from the past of this great 70s kiwi hit, by Golden Harvest, does anybody know if any of the guys in the band are still alive today & where were they originally from.
Yea-ah!!! You guys were ahead of your time!!! all I need to do is find a copy of ' Hollywood Dreams' and I'll be Happy. Had a poster of Golden Harvest in my youth before someone stole it
I saw the lead guitarist in this band perform 1983 SweetWaters festival.. he was doin the Jimi Hendrix 2Mekki thingy.. Awesome music.. awesome time in history. Kills todays music by a long shot....
Brilliant song...lead guitarist has got some Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page going on...and the guitar has the Eddie Van Halen Stripes...well before Eddie made it big. Great stuff.
