The fates have aligned, I'm reading "S." right now! It's overwhelming at first, but if you just dive in and commit, it becomes a lot easier to follow. The margin notes storyline is my favorite part of the book so far, but the main text of the "Ship of Theseus" is drier and the footnotes are dense so you might not enjoy it if that's not something you enjoy within the first couple chapters. Fun fact, "S." falls into a genre/form (it's debated) called Ergodic Literature which also includes books like "House of Leaves"

The adhd struggle when reading is so real, it takes me forever to read books because I have to reread it over and over and mixed with my ocd I have to touch the pages a certain way before flipping to the next, even when I’m really enjoying the book and want to know what happens next.

Great video as always and an interesting way to approach unhauling unread books that i might adopt to trim.my 300+ books to be read mountain. However, i do have to defend Pachinko. For me, it was one of the best books ive read so far this year. For sure, its slower paced but its also beautfully written and has a heart-breakingly honest view on what family is and what we do to survive. Beyond that, it gives a voice to people that, to me, had so little power or agency during the time frame it is based. A book with epic scope that made me cry with sadness, gasp in shock and smile with happiness. It may not be for everyone and thats fine, but i couldn't leave it undefended! 😂

If somebody expresses any interest in a book that you have read, just give it to them. If they tell you they'll return it, you can quote Commander Adama from Battlestar Galactica: "never lend books. It's a gift."

You're only a little bad at this haha. 32 to 15 isnt terrible though but its still funny, there were some definitely random books in there. (I cant imagine reading probably 99% of them as i mainly read sci-fi fantasy. 😬). Im super curiois about that puzzle book...looks similar to what House of Leaves did, but more chaotic.
How...do you deal with such an overwhelming amount of books on your tbr? I have 70 right now 🥲(50ish physical). And that is way too many and i feel overwhelmed that i cant read them faster!
I always want more books...and ive slowed down, but i keep seeing the ones on my list up for sale...which is a problem.
Anyway, are you a mood reader or do you know most times whar you're wanting to dive into next? Prior to the fishbowl prompts ofc. Also, im not at all religious (quite the absolute opposite), definitely surprised to see you keep The Red Tent.

I ALSO mainly read sci-fi/fantasy (which is why this video had none of that, I can't even begin to think about getting rid of any of those ones), so WHY did I keep all these ones?! Why have I kept a book about a woman in the Bible (when I am also the opposite of religious)? Why have I kept what is essentially Hemingway fanfiction?? I am actually SO bad at this
      S. felt extremely chaotic, I'm still scared to pick it back up but it seems like it's similar to what I've heard House of Leaves is like
starting this channel has honestly helped me deal with my overwhelming TBR, I've done a few challenges that have forced me to read things I wouldn't usually pick up first, and the fishbowl is gonna help with that even more, which I'm stoked for. I keep telling myself I'm gonna pause on the book buying, but then.....idk I'm weak

Work with your anthropomorphizing brain! The items are sad that you don't really know them; you're sending them somewhere where someone who WILL know them will find them!!
Also, if you should like to feel better about yourself and your hoarding habits, I have over 500 books that I own! That I have not read! Including the books I have read it comes to over 1000! (A large portion of these are digital lol)
Pachinko is a really excellent book, I can definitely understand why it won awards and whatnot but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it-I don't have a strong idea of what I was meant to take from the book like thematically, it was verrrrry dark in places & there was an offhand neutral/positive mention of Israel
Brief History of the dead is also on my tbr! If you ever want to buddy read it, let me know!!
^ditto for S..... I've heard that you kind of need to skim through it 4 times to get all the layers..... It's been up for unhaul from my shelves SEVERAL times but every time I want to be the type of person who could read such a thing lol
    15 books of 150 is 10%, that's a lot actually, I'm lucky if I crack 2% when I unhaul 💜💜💜

That's a much better way to think about it! They're off on their next big adventure
Oh my god, I don't even want to talk about my kindle library. There's a big source of shame right there, I don't even know how many unread books are stuffed into that thing (I've had kindles for 15+ years, or whenever they first came out)
Yikes @ Pachinko - a few people now have commented basically saying "it's ok to get rid of this book" so I feel happy to be reaffirmed there haha
Wait buddy reading Brief History of the Dead would be fun, let's go!
      S. is now the scariest book on my shelves hahaha
You may have misheard, but I actually unhauled 15.....out of 850. I wish it was 150 hahaha. So, 1.76%

The History of Love and Dud Avocado have been added to my tbr!
    Of the ones I've read
-A Brief History of the Dead was tied for my worst book of last year, it got one of two 0☆ out of 168 books.
-The Essex Serpent was fine, but only worth it for the writing and quotes.
-The Red tent was good but the bible crap gets a little annoying

this is extremely helpful but also concerning because what do you mean 0 stars?!? that's terrifying
that's the vibe I got from essex serpent, the writing seems beautiful but I still have no idea what the book is even supposed to be about
the red tent.....did I make a mistake, should I have just gotten rid of it? does it matter if I know less than nothing about the bible

I give 1☆s pretty freely so I need something special for books that really dissapoint me. I've read 119 so far this year and have about ten 1☆s but no 0☆ yet.
It didn't ake too long for A Brief History of the Dead to start feeling like rowing through concrete, if you try it and lose intrest it most likely won't get it back.
Essex Serpent is worth reading, it's historical fiction about a woman that won't conform to society's expectations for the time period with a little bit of romance and found family. The only major issue was the title is misleading, the serpent barley matters and goes almost nowhere.
Red Tent was the best of the three and can be read as historical fiction too, but with some magic like some ppl living to be a couple hundred years old.
Knowing bible stories would add some context to the wierd cultural pracises, but also spoil the main plot points. I've only seen non religious ppl read it and none of us hated it and a few gave it 5☆.

Pissing money away. Don't buy a book unless you're going to read it. Problem solved.
