Training. Which means riding. A lot. For weeks and weeks ahead of time. Conditioning yourself, and your horse. It's a commitment. Period. I did not make Eagle scout. I got my first Tevis buckle instead.
I would do everything except going over that rock monster .. cougar or something like hell no ! Maybe when I was younger ! But the rest is almost as insane and I’d LOVE to try until I made it however long it may take !!
@TahoeGoddess well if you wanted to EARN a Tevis buckle you would do it. You and your horse have to be tough and determined and conditioned well. There are so many checkpoints on this ride and it's a 50/50 chance that they will even let you continue. If they find even the slightest issue going on with your horse you are out. I always took the full 24 hours and my horse was still ready to go even at the finish. It's a life-changing once in a lifetime experience.
Who has come up with the incorrect name of this Ride? I can't imagine spending so much time on a video like this and not getting the name of the event right. It's the WESTERN STATES TRAIL RIDE - look at the bottom banner of the buckle for confirmation. It's nickname is the "Tevis Cup Ride" only after the handsome Tevis Cup trophy awarded to the first place finisher.

fun, informative video. Thanks for posting.
Good Video
looks like they need more youngsters in this sport!
Most youngsters don't have the time or the attention span to train.
Cow girl up

Maya Lucia You are correct on the name but - most people just refer to it as 'the Tevis" or "Tevis Cup"..Most everyone knows what that means.
Yep Bob... "western trail ride" too long... "Ride Tevis" everyone understand :p
It is the concept of nick name, or slang, or new word. Languages are evolved, right?
Eliminate the crews, each rider must take of them self. No Crew, then it would be horse and rider.
Disgusting example of cruelty for human reward!
You think horses do this for the cup, or being beaten?
This kind of performance happens only when the horse loves their rider!
