Hey, Jomboy, I was late to this one, but fun breakdown - made me laugh. Hey, I was wondering - how is it that this tradition of throwing people out of the game got started in baseball? I can’t think of of any other sport where coaches or players routinely and arbitrarily get thrown out of games. Soccer red cards can also be fairly arbitrary, there are definitely players that have been thrown out for arguing with the ref. He didn’t get thrown out for that. The home plate ump told him to knock it off. Then he went ape shit on him lol what do you expect. Joey himself said he deserved to get tossed.
The umps gotta leave their emotions out of the game. Home plate umpire provoked the whole thing. Almost ruined that little girls day. I’m glad she got the the signed ball and tickets. Her face when Joey is signing things for her is adorable, lol.
In this case, Joey is arguing balls and strikes, since the check swing qualifies under this rule. As Rule 8.02(a)'s Comment says, umpires are supposed to warn any player, manager, or coach who leaves his position to argue balls and strikes, which seems to have happened here with the home plate umpire. It isn't a matter of feelings, it's a matter of maintaining order in the game.
@@ChrysoliteTwo He didn't leave his position he was walking to the dugout. Had they just let him go this would have been a nonissue. Home plate ump should have never been involved.
My thing is why can’t the umpire getting yelled at handle his own shit. If the base ump wants to eject him, oh well. Why does home plate have to get involved? Seems like Votto could’ve yelled for 3 seconds, and the game could’ve gone on with no further incident.
@@ChrysoliteTwo and if you go to CloseCall Sports you can see wgen Bell was ejected. It was when Vitto was having his temper tantrum. There was no after the fact ejection

Tatis is gold sitting over there, the perfect “bruh, here we go again.” These umps are so ass it’s not even funny anymore. Once someone says anything, you get tossed.
Imagine being a top-level athlete but still having the inner-chill to just pop down for a little rest while you watch two grown men argue about nothing.
Imagine being a supposed adult, but in fact showing your extrem jealousy of the players by proving it all the time by doing stuff like this. MLB umps are so pathethic.
Right? That kinda irked me. So the ump can say stuff as a Votto is walking away, but won’t let Votto fuss at him? Yeah…kinda wimpy. I hate when officials bait players like that. It’s so weasel like.
just wait, these guys will be the ones that decide if legal substances that combine to make stickiness is too sticky or just the right amount of sticky
This is a great example of a dialectic: Votto has a temper and can be mean to umps 😢, but is also a great guy and is giving to fans and appreciates when he has crossed a line but still understands why and links it to a father who would be proud of the way he emotes during competition 😃! Context wins and we all gained some understanding of humans from this Jomboy breakdown (again)! Thanks Jimmy!
I love what Votto did with the little girl. More often than not the players don't realize what it means to a young fan to see their favorite player in action. Now she has a real memory that will last a lifetime!
I've never seen a more clear case of Umps doing the right thing, the wrong way. Absolutely Votto and Bell had to go, they both crossed lines....but the Crew handled it SO poorly. First with turning away frim Votto (after hypocritically yelling at him for the same stuff) and then retroactively throwing Bell. I swear sometimes they TRY for new ways for the general public to find them annoying.
Fans are so clueless when it comes to umpires. You are complaining that he tried to walk away when Votto was in his face and avoid further confrontation? Just ridiculous.
Nah the umps are soft and are ruining the sport. Why the fuck does a ref can tell someone to shut up off a basic explanation. All he had to say was you went sit yo ass down.
I kinda disagree about Votto here. He didn’t use any curses or magic words. It’s not uncommon to let a player have their say if it’s brief and not vitriolic. I can see why ump ejected him and I wouldn’t hang him high over it but I think 9 out of 10 times that’s simply not an EJ, especially in the first

Wait till the fans reach their limit and they start taking action.
He didn’t get thrown out for that. The home plate ump told him to knock it off. Then he went ape shit on him lol what do you expect. Joey himself said he deserved to get tossed.
Jomboy tells the story with such heart, emotion (or lack there of when it's funnier) - clearly a win for baseball. Glad you broke through Jomboy -
The pirates fan laughing in the background was the best part of this whole thing.
Do you mean padres?
Padres you dork
the guy just taping in front of him is also hilarious
ua-cam.com/video/Qtb8muWUJqM/v-deo.html...
Yeah i love the san diego pirates
@@vw8886 agreed.
@@ChrysoliteTwo and if you go to CloseCall Sports you can see wgen Bell was ejected. It was when Vitto was having his temper tantrum.
There was no after the fact ejection
Nice to see that Joey Votto took care of that little kid. I’m a bucs fan (ugh that fkn team) and I hate the reds, but always respected Votto. Super underrated player imo to say the least, and apparently a good dude. HOF guy one day.
Tatis sitting on the ground while all this is happening was pretty funny
@mieczyslaw W Says the guy on the internet talking shit probably sitting on his ass right now
@mieczyslaw W lmao
@mieczyslaw W what you want him to do😂😂😂
He looks like a little leaguer when there is a pitching change.
Guys... he's just sitting on the ground. It's not that deep. Relax.
Got startled by Jomboy superimposing his face over Votto after his wholesome speech. Then by coincidence Votto tilts his head out of Jomboy's face as if he's trying to look around him LOL
Yeah, that was funny
We like Joey. Joey is a good dude.
MLB Network should let Jomboy have his own show.
Mlb network is a joke
Half hour weekly dumb
He will have a show on espn soon. Mark my words
They would make in corporate politically correct trash.
Jomboy should let the MLB have a show on HIS network.
joey votto not doing wall sits while he is at bat makes me scared
I never realized how much reds baseball i watched until he took his at bat like that and i was like, Did his stance change?
I haven’t got the slightest idea or interest in baseball but find myself watching your baseball videos time and time again. You my good Sir are an interesting and entertaining man
Tatis is gold sitting over there, the perfect “bruh, here we go again.” These umps are so ass it’s not even funny anymore. Once someone says anything, you get tossed.
@@Kalbuir66 it’s there way of making it about them. The stats and videos are out and everyone knows how bad they are.
Just a fantastic breakdown - all the story lines included - little girl sadness/update, great interview with Votto. Just all around great breakdown.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, are the highlights of a classic, competitive game of baseball. Love it 😘
I love Joey Votto. The dude is awesome. He's just livin in the moment everywhere he goes.
That act of kindness in the rough gave me literal tears...
He did swing though imo
Yeah he definitely went but I still kinda get why he got pissed that the home plate ump had to say something.
Yeah, he did. But that HP umpire made the situation worse when he said something there.
ua-cam.com/video/Qtb8muWUJqM/v-deo.html...
He probably knew he went but he was talking to the third base umpire not the home plate umpire. That's why he got pissed.
Haha Tatis just chilling on the ground, waiting for the whole thing to play out is by far the best part of this video 😂
This just made me a Joey Votto fan. I've seen him do other things like this before with fans. Class act.
"Would he have been proud..?
...Yeah he would've, for sure"
It's like almost every ump has a chip on their shoulder, maybe because they never made it anywhere close to the big show as a player.
its getting to be that way with most sports refs
@@lonbad Yep. A shitstorm is brewing on that.
God, my immediate thought when I heard Votto's interview was that he seems like a really cool guy. Well-spoken, calm, and introspective. What a guy!
“You had to say something!”
Love how Bell tells the ump that he made Joey lose his shit and it’s all his fault
5:46 Bro such a heartwarming response by votto about his father and ofc Jomboy’s face just pops up 💀
The face swap at the end terrifies me and makes me laugh so much at the same time
Damn apparently there’s 5 people who were all first, too bad nobody asked
to bad i didnt ask you if anybody asked..
I always like to know. I write the names down in a list..
@@JerseySlayer But who's first on your list of firsts??
I love what Votto did with the little girl. More often than not the players don't realize what it means to a young fan to see their favorite player in action. Now she has a real memory that will last a lifetime!
Considering that was strike four that’s super embarrassing for Votto and the rest of the Reds
I can see why ump ejected him and I wouldn’t hang him high over it but I think 9 out of 10 times that’s simply not an EJ, especially in the first
@@killemkillua Um, where exactly did he tell him to shut up? Even Votto said he was 100 percent right to throw him out. Fans always looking for something to bitch about.
@@ShatterHumor That's fine, except the seasoned veteran Votto said he deserved it, so I'm going to side with his experience on this one.
Votto is a class act. What a legend!
It makes sense my Votto got ejected but I’m still confused why Bell was
Every time one of his players is tossed Bell will get tossed. He does it on purpose.
