Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge of the Ghent area, it has given me a real feel of what to expect if I chose to live in that area. I am curious to find out the average rental price for a single-family 4-bedroom house? keep up the good work.

This is a wonderful tour of Ghent. It's lovely and friendly. Some areas of Ghent are under architectural rules, governed by a board appointed by the City Council, and I regret to say that both these ententes are rife with corruption. While aritectuaral [reservation is important, it's how you go about it, and who is favored, is key. In some cases, like the extreme overnight exterior house lighting, is not allowed, stop gap measures by citizens are useless. A strong civic league is important, and while West Ghent has one of those, the other Ghent one (GNL) will not be looking out for the neighborhood. They talk a good game, give parties, but I never even knew a civic league could be as useless as they are.
Parts of Ghent have been suffering coal dust pollution from the Norfolk Southern rotary ship dumpers at Lamberts Point coal loading facility 6. This has been going on for decades from "grandfathered" dumpers that pre- date the Clean Air Act. Folks only try and try but give up. Some folks are hopeful that new federal rules may help (not holding our breath however) and then again, the City Council is useless. The good citizens of Norfolk understand this. Folks volunteer and do good work, but engaging the elected officials doesn't work.

Unlike Ghent commons, where stop signs and speed are a state of mind 😮
