I'm afraid it's going to reach a point where the guards and the public will have to be separated. I remember as a child back in the fifties, my parents taking me to see the changing of the guard outside Buckingham Palace. At that time the guardsmen paraded outside the Palace gates and railings. But even then, when we tend to think people were better behaved, the soldiers had to be moved back behind the railings into the quadrangle, because of the sort of behaviour we are now witnessing at Horse Guards. I remember there were incidents where some idiots were sticking apples onto the soldiers bayonets when they were stood at ease, crazy stuff like that. I'm also surprised there hasn't been an accident involving a horse. When I see irresponsible parents carrying babies in their arms right up to the head of an unpredictable horse, it makes by blood run cold thinking of what might have happened. No, the preponderance of camera phones and TikTok posers with their stupid 'V' signs have turned the place into a cross between Disneyland and a circus. Time to call a halt.

I've yet to visit the UK, so I don't know if these videos give a false impression. That said, it surprises me that the area where the guards are posted, and move back and forth, isn't at least marked off on the ground, and that there aren't signs to say, "watch out when in the red zone" or something of that sort. It's awfully generous to let people get so close to see the horses or get photos, but I think it leads some dim people to misunderstand the situation.
