"I think that's a solid nut..." 😂 oh Emily. I think YOU TWO are solid nuts! This is entertaining and fun to watch, I am enjoying the heck out of this! 😁😁
Electric guitars are weird to someone who isn't familiar with them, but they're just fun things to mess around on. You don't have to do things the way anyone else does them, and I'm assuming you still have your Telecaster as well, so you can compare the two and hear the differences between them. I use my guitar the way some people do knitting or whittling or something - it's therapeutic. I don't play anything that could be considered listenable or even musical, it's just sound I can make and listen to through headphones. If you don't even worry about the conventional aspects of what part is what and just spend time playing around with them, they're extremely enjoyable things to have lying around your house.
Yes!! The Telecaster is Russ’s guitar but now I have MY OWN 🔥 it’s definitely therapeutic and I can’t wait to learn how to play it better - I just can’t believe how bad the guitar strings hurt my fingers 🥺 even on my worst days with hours of practice on harp, I build up callouses, but these guitar strings have like a “BITE” to them if that makes sense?
@@emilyharpist it could be the string winding (it's like a wire wrapped around a core, the thinner strings are just the core) which is kinda like little teeth! You also just might want to put some fresh ones on there, they could be a little degraded and scratchy since they came on the guitar, but Russ could probably tell you if they're good or not Do the harp calluses happen in a different place? I'm guessing you play more with the pads of your fingers than the actual tips? I've never touched a harp :( but I'm thinking like playing a bass, but a very big one
@@cactustactics YES the calluses usually happen on the pads of your fingers, the trick about playing harp and what harp teachers commonly say is that "you want as much flesh on the string as possible" to get good tone, so I think it's in a bit of a different spot than guitar calluses which are closer to the fingertips
I think this is a healthy opinion on electric guitars, even if you know how it works and how to play. This is why people like george harrison, david gilmour or jimi hendrinx are remembered quite fondly. Thats the spirit that took this instrument from being just a louder guitar to the center piece of most music for decades. :) And regarding the strings, I guess those wich came with that just guitar aren’t that nice. There are quiet big differences, maybe try some elixir (my personal favourite) or ernie balls. Or try around with gauges. The thinner the less pressure is needed. And it doesn’t take thaaaat long for your finger tips to get used to it
@@emilyharpist Yeah guitar calluses tend to be more like on the ends of your fingers - and the advice there is to use the tips of your fingers so there's minimal contact, so the opposite of harp! Gotta keep them out of the way of the other strings You'll get used to it though! You're probably pressing harder than you need to as well, you'll get more comfortable with it I've got flatwound strings on a bass - they're like the rounds but the winding is flat instead of bumpy, which is supposed to make them feel more comfortable. And they are, but oh god THE FRICTION. Turns out when your finger's in contact with the entire surface it's a little bit grippy when you're sliding
K I'm double commenting because this review has left me smitten with you two as a couple. I could listen to Russ giggle at Emily hamming it up with the guitar all day. I too chuckle whenever my partner is goofing around with one of my guitars. Love it!

@@emilyharpist Bjork's harp player used a whammy bar and an ebow. (I think?) It's on the last song of the live at the royal opera house performance if you search for it.
@@emilyharpist First time I saw a pedal harp I thought "they must work like a whammy, you unfix them, go up and down and they let you bend". Turned out quite a bit more benign, but you probably could kinda do it like that, you'll get a bunch of stuff between a natural and a flat for example. You could create a mechanism that more aggressively turns some strings up and down, especially down. Kinda imagine divebombing on a harp with a pedal. Would be cool.

I'm trying to think how you could do this like. You could have ridiculously expanded range lever or harp mechanisms all connected to some kind of big chord that pulls on them at once. Or like somehow design the half the harp to just be floating like a Jazzmaster frem. Absolute mad science.
That was the best thing I've seen on YT in a long time. Your facial expressions when you reacted to the tuner breaking and discovering the vibrato bar were just priceless.
This was a lot of fun to watch. The guitar is so much less complicated than the harp! Your clean tone was actually pretty good. Your terminology was hilarious. Thanks you Em, you never fail to entertain.
I love the polytune. Before buying the polytune I would tune once a year, a few days before the equinox. Now I tune ALL the time. Before I warm up, after I warm up, during the bridge, during the solo, it really doesn't matter. Think you're playing a Gminor? Think again. That fifth is a microtone flat my guy. Amaj? More like, A MAJOR problem with your intonation. My friends don't talk to me any more, but who needs company when you have perfect pitch?
As a Cello player I can tell it's very weird when you first get a guitar after playing a different instrument for so long. Emily looks so happy she's radiant, so adorable.

You might look into Rocksmith 2014 Remastered as a way of learning guitar. Basically plays like Guitar Hero/Rock Band, but with actual guitar (or bass), and it teaches the basics as well as scales and songs that adjust in difficulty depending on how well you're doing, with the option of isolating parts to practice. It requires the Realtone cable, which is usually packaged with the physical copy but can also be bought by itself for $40 on Amazon.
@@emilyharpist Rocksmith is an awesome way to get into instruments like guitar or bass. I played bass for 30 yrs already when I tried it out and learned to play Arch Enemy's song "Nemesis" like in less than 2 hours of having fun. And it is definitely not an easy tune at all, fast, advanced melodic death metal. Best of it was the method of how it guided me through the learning progress.
You also just might want to put some fresh ones on there, they could be a little degraded and scratchy since they came on the guitar, but Russ could probably tell you if they're good or not
Do the harp calluses happen in a different place?
And regarding the strings, I guess those wich came with that just guitar aren’t that nice.
Gotta keep them out of the way of the other strings
You'll get used to it though! You're probably pressing harder than you need to as well, you'll get more comfortable with it
I've got flatwound strings on a bass - they're like the rounds but the winding is flat instead of bumpy, which is supposed to make them feel more comfortable.
Love it!
Hahaha I LOVE IT 😂👏❤️ thank you so much, Travis!!
this came up on a list from a JHS premiere you were on, and I know this was posted a while ago but OMG I needed this today.. thank you and keep playing (whatever you want)! Thank you!
Haha thank you so much! This is one of my favs on the channel haha. Have a great day!
I was so proud when she correctly labeled the humbucker pickup (it bucks the hum) ☺️☺️
This channel is the most pure fun I am so so glad I stumbled across it. Truly you guys brighten my day up each video you upload and if it's not too cheesy and old to say this reminds me of the golden era of UA-cam where it was people having fun for others to experience the fun.
Cheers for being a pleasant salve to my horrid depression and PTSD
I’m so glad you’re enjoying the channel!!! Thank you so much for being here with us; I really appreciate you 🥺❤️
So this is my first ever Emily Hopkins video I have watched, and she nearly killed me with the tuner screen coming off. Holy smokes did I laugh really hard. This was wonderful, and very cute. I know its been awhile since you made this video, but I hope you have been enjoying guitar and learning a lot!
Emily doesn't know her own strength... loved the parts identification (I think Russ set you up).
Welcome to the whole new world of guitar!
HAHAHA HE TOTALLY DID 😂❤️ I can’t wait to practice more!!
This is the best guitar review video I have ever watched! So wholesome and full of light-hearted humour.
hahah thank you so much!! I really appreciate that and I'm so glad you enjoyed it!!! 🥰❤️
9 months after I commented below, I find this vid again....and somehow it's even wonderFULLER!😊
I'm getting smart and subscribing now, so next time I check it will be the wonderfullest vid ever.✨👍
This, seriously, was so cute and adorable and hilarious. It made smile. Seeing someone who is amazing at one instrument jumping into another is always delightful. The soundtrack choice (e-Shop!) was premo, too! :D
hahah thank you so much, Justin!! 🥰❤️ love that e-shop music 😂
This is single handedly the best guitar review I've ever seen and heard. Thank you.
😂❤️ so glad you enjoyed it!!
This channel just keeps on getting better. You two are hilarious.
we appreciate you!! 😘❤️
Every once in awhile, the UA-cam algorithm introduces me to amazing things. This is one of those times. Instantly subscribed!
Ahhh thank you so much!! I’m so glad you’re here!! 🥰🎶
Thank you for one of the greatest reviews in the history of UA-cam.
hahaha so glad you think so!! 😂❤️ thanks so much for watching!
The reactions to everything was awesome! Donner should give her a bass too!!!
Hahaha thank you so much!!! Bass next?? 🤔❤️
@@emilyharpist if you thought guitar was interesting, jamming on bass is a whole other experience! Pretty sure Donner has some cool colors for them too :)
@@emilyharpist Definitly get a bass! Then challenge Charles Berthoud to a 'Slap&Tap' BASS-Challenge!! Or Davie504 :))))) These guys are way cool.

Love the difference in explanations for the pedal. Goes from all of the details and possibilities to "and it's shaped weird". Phenomenal review
😂❤️❤️❤️
If u invent a whammy bar for a harp you’ll probably be the first person to innovate the harp in awhile 😂 also this reminds me of when i got my first guitar im just glad i researched for months before i picked one out tho😂 good luck learning guitar
Hahah thank you!! I actually am going to start practicing; I really want to play guitar! 🥰🎶 and I have a whammy-bar-like pedal coming soon (gamechanger audio Bigsby pedal)!
Wharp. lol
Oh my gosh, I laughed way too hard at this "review"! But not in a derisive way. That was the most adorable guitar review I've ever seen! When you completely pulled the screen off the tuner, I was in the floor! Excellent! You're a great harpist and a lovely guitar "reviewer". 😉🤩
3:35 just causually playing spokky scary skeletons and nobody notices
Right ?
That looks like very good beginner gear. I was really impressed with that multi effects pedal. Very intuitive controls. Like he said, it’s a great place to start.
This is currently the greatest gear review of 2022👍
LMAO so glad you think so!! 😂❤️ we had so much fun with this hahah
This was the most wholesome guitar review I've ever seen. I never felt like I was being sold anything at all, ever, but I kept wanting go play it with her.
HAHAH thank you so much!!! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!! 😂❤️
Watching this on a regular office day... and you two just made my day, thank you folks!
Thanks so much!! I’m glad to have made your day better :)
Best Guitar Review Ever! YeaHHH Rock On that was a nice tune you played in the beginning at 6:21 super cool stuff High Vibes!
The screen protector ripped the screen off😂😂😂
LMAOOO I wasn’t ready for that 😂
Very fun and heartwarming! Keep on being genuine!
I hope other "Emily Explains Instruments She Clearly Knows Everything About" will come down the road! I learned a lot about guitar. Still not sure why Russ shoved a big Allen Wrench in your guitar though.
LMFAOOO I would seriously LOVE to make that a series 😂❤️
I would be incredibly impressed by whatever genius out there who wants to invent a harp with a whammy bar while having it still be in tune.
Hahaha RIGHT?! I’m going to be trying the Bigsby pedal by Gamechanger audio with my harp as soon as it arrives!! 🙌
Locking tuner harp
Aftermarket Bigsby harp mod
I'm trying to think how you could do this like. You could have ridiculously expanded range lever or harp mechanisms all connected to some kind of big chord that pulls on them at once. Or like somehow design the half the harp to just be floating like a Jazzmaster frem. Absolute mad science.
Baritone Harp VI for playing Djent
absolutely adorable!! plus that demo at the end was very cool!
That was the best thing I've seen on YT in a long time. Your facial expressions when you reacted to the tuner breaking and discovering the vibrato bar were just priceless.
As a long time guitar player, this is the most honest review I've seen in a long time. ( not being sarcastic )
As someone who also doesn't know anything about guitars (or playing instruments at all), this is a fantastic review and I now wish to own a guitar.
😂❤️ thank you so much for watching!! I'm gonna start practicing now~
By the way she did misslable all of the parts
This was a lot of fun to watch. The guitar is so much less complicated than the harp! Your clean tone was actually pretty good. Your terminology was hilarious. Thanks you Em, you never fail to entertain.
hahah thank you so much, Nate!! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 😂❤️
7:29 "you can do this all the time, and you don't do this all the time??"
- Everyone with their first floating trem
this is literally the most honest guitar unboxing review I've ever watched
I love the polytune. Before buying the polytune I would tune once a year, a few days before the equinox. Now I tune ALL the time. Before I warm up, after I warm up, during the bridge, during the solo, it really doesn't matter. Think you're playing a Gminor? Think again. That fifth is a microtone flat my guy. Amaj? More like, A MAJOR problem with your intonation. My friends don't talk to me any more, but who needs company when you have perfect pitch?
this is a whole stand up comedy bit and i’m here for it.
As a Cello player I can tell it's very weird when you first get a guitar after playing a different instrument for so long. Emily looks so happy she's radiant, so adorable.
As a person who is playing guitar since 10 years. This is exactly how I review a guitar as well.
Eyyy this was the first video of yours that I watched. It was randomly recommended to me when you uploaded it.
Love your expressiveness, you are always filled with child-like wonder and excitement!
Oh wow! This is my favorite guitar review of all-time.
Haha thanks Joel!!
"Ew! Are you serious?" about the volume knob sent me. "How much does it cost?" Emily: FREE NINETY NINE! This is the most wholesome review I've ever seen in my life and I'm here for it.
That's one of the most entertaining guitar reviews I've ever seen! You need a tremolo arm for your harp!
hahah I WISH!! 😂❤️ I do have the Bigsby Pedal coming soon!
That had to be the most adorable guitar review I ever seen.... my favorite channel...
The algorithm got it right for once! I'm so glad your video popped up in front of me! I love this. You are so funny and talented. Thank you to you both for creating this stuff.
Nice!!! We need a whole series about you reviewing new instruments/opening boxes! 🥂 ❤️ 🎸 🎷 🎹 🎧🎺🎻🪗🎮
Hahaha I would LOVE that!! 😂❤️
The confidence in the description of the "bridge" made me laugh out loud. "Obviously"😂😂😂
😂 it just makes sense!
@0:17
- Can you play a guitar?
- I don't know, never tried it yet.
holy shiz your smile seems so genuine and addictive for some reason 😶
Luv that guitar color
Thanks so much!!! That made me smile 😊 😊
10:39 wow this reminded me of that movie The Crow. It had a definite gothy back from the dead thing going on, I love it.
I love your videos and love unboxiing videos from anyone. Being a guitar and bass player I would love to see videos of you learning that thing. PROPS TO TO DONNER for how they are getting involved!!!!!
Hahah thank you so much!! 🥰❤️ I can’t wait to practice more guitar (do your fingertips ever get used to the pain of the tiny strings digging into them?!? 😱) Donner has always been so amazingly supportive of these sort of “shitpost-style” videos 😂
@@emilyharpist as a friend of guitarists they seem to think having developed thick skin develop on your finger tips be a good thing ( like you can get from shoes kinda?)
I get callouses on my fourth fingers and thumbs from the harp, but they go away after a while and they’re never that severe. I feel like with guitar they’re gonna be there for the rest of your life 😂
@@emilyharpist Pretty much.😎
Always being blown away and amazed by her harp playing, it is good to see that she is a normal mortal like the rest of us.
Still a quarter Harp-demi godess.
As a harpist you'd probably love open tunings! I use open tunings a lot and get some pretty cool harp-like sounds and arpeggios.
ugh YES I should have tried open tunings!! 😂❤️
@@emilyharpist Was going to reccomend this as well, open tunings and a slide, bam instant guitarist.
@@emilyharpist You did try an open tuner though! (ba-dum tshh sorry)
Best guitar review I ever saw. Thank you for this. Also love the fact that they send 6 nuts.
I’m using couple of donner pedals for several years now and I’m still obsessed with the fact that company named after shawarma making guitar products!
I would seriously pay good money for part 2 where he explains all the proper terminology of the guitar and so on.
That sounded great on the harp...and she did do that country chord progression right away!!!great job
Hahaha I grew up on Rockabilly music 😂❤️
You kill with "less pool" 2:12 🤣🤣🤣 "square" 😂😂
LMFAOOO “less PAWL” 😂❤️ the accent is getting stronger and stronger these days and I can’t do anything to stop it ☠️
That was actually one of the most refreshing things I've seen on UA-cam to do with guitars in 16 years! :D
Although this is my second video from this channel, this is literally the most precious thing I’ve ever seen, and I can’t be mad! 🤭 This is so cute!
Looks a nice package. I like strat-types with humbuckers. They cancel the noise between 40 & 60 Hz. Cheers from London!
I love how all the effects sounded like they were piped through cardboard, Donner quality through and through. That guitar review was as useful as any UA-cam guitar review I have seen. Snerk. 🤣
😂❤️😂❤️😂❤️
well done you , this is something that is not covered in most instances but is a common happening and where a lot of makers fall down on the build quality , playability , fret work ,action etc which will put a lot of 1st time players off . rknroll
hahah thank you so much, Philip!! 🥰❤️
- OMG you can do that on a guitar!??? You have volume?? You have a tremolo bar?
As a guitar player I would say this is the best review of a guitar, gives great contrasts. A person who's experiencing a guitar for the first time by discovering things with a friend who knows about guitar. Love it.
You discovering the guitar made me love mine even more, because I kinda took it for granted but now I love it more:)
Your channel is one of my favourites
I love all the weird pedals you demo
Thanks Aaron!!! I love ALL the weird pedals!!
It requires the Realtone cable, which is usually packaged with the physical copy but can also be bought by itself for $40 on Amazon.
oh that's amazing!! I always played expert on Guitar Hero but unfortunately it didn't help me learn ACTUAL guitar. I'll definitely check that out!!
@@emilyharpist This so much! It'l be cool to see some Rocksmith play through videos - with the guitar ... or the harp ;)
I wish something like this would have been around when I started playing instruments. The didactics behind it work very well. Undoubtedly a great and very rewarding way to get into an instrument. Even motivates old guys like me to try new things.
guitar looks amazing , hss guitar's are versatile than sss , have a great day emily !!!!!
Hahah thank you so much!! I hope you have a great day too! 🥰🎶
6:18 you've never played guitar and you start off with that? what the hell lmao
LMAOOO ok so real talk I played a little bit when I was 14, but that was almost 15 years ago - my dad is the singer and guitarist in a Rockabilly band so I HAD to learn at least one riff 😂❤️
@@emilyharpist well this just escalated
i love how when she picked up the guitar she acidentally played "Zero" by the smashing pumkins.
The most honest review I've ever seen. My new favorite channel
