I like the first hat best it has that spaghetti western look that's hard to find these days and super expensive when you do find one. Another hat you don't see much anymore is that Little Joe style for lack of the actual hat style name with that telescope crown and turned up on the front brim corners and a slight up roll on the back of the brim.
The Bushman style available in North America, is similar too, but not the same as, the Campdraft available in Australia. The Bushman comes in Nullarbor Tan, as shown, or Moonstone.
I really appreciate it when people say "height", not "heighth"... "Heighth" is not a word. "Height" is a word. It pairs well with "width". "The height of my Akubra Bushman is perfect. I wore it the whole time I hiked the entire width of the Appalachian Trail." That's a good fr'instance.
Hello. When wearing a hat, especially in the summer, the hat will become dirty and the time will come to clean it. Tell me how to clean the hat of Acubra and how?
We sell a hat brush which will knock dirt and dust off. You can avoid some cleaning by not picking the hat up repeatedly with oily fingers in the same place like the pinch in the front of a hat. Gum or tar or other things that are attached to the surface you can take off with some sandpaper. If a hat is very soiled a hat renovator will remove the leather parts then dunk the felt in white gas / dry cleaning fluid to remove oils then reattach the leather parts.
My open crown Bushman just arrived in today's mail (thanks, Jodi!). Question: in order to snap down the front brim after doing the pinched telescope bash, is steam needed? If so, where exactly, and how much?
What's interesting is that the Akubra factory says the process of bashing and shaping the hat was lost to newer generations in the late 1950s. As a result, the factory had to invest in machines that could do it on a large scale and there are staff who do nothing but shape the hat for the customers.
True that hat bashing is a rare art but I am all but positive that all of the hats Akubra makes have machine pressed brim and crown shapes when the crowns are bashed.
Fur felt is impregnated with shellac which melts with the application of steam and then reforms when dried / cooled so using steam you can kick that side up.
Sir, I wish to complain...on behalf of Monte Christo hats...I was going to buy a Panama in Gambler style (have you seen their prices?) but I watched your video and I took my best quality fedora style panama a kettle and I steamed it into gambler style...It looks great....from there on in there was no stopping me I have re-shaped several of my Fedoras and also for my Hat wearing friends......this year I have promised myself an Akubra digger and look forward to bashing it. ps Monte Christo wish you would de-sist !
Super high demand, I figure as Australians can't fly under COVID restrictions but they can hike, amidst challenges getting materials have led to their simplifying their offerings dramatically. - Will

Excellent video, gonna try it tonight with my hat
Just did! It worked perfectlt
I took a cattleman crown cowboy hat, pushed the dents up and shaped the crown with the technique for the pinched telescope

I can't imagine it would take long to hike the "width" of the Appalachian Trail!

isn't the pinched telescope you made basically a teardrop style?

How do you get one side to flip up and stay?

How about some steam?
Do you have that hat in Black?
I just put the steamed hat on my head to raise the center section..
How do I order mine? Deliver in Brazil? Thanks in advance!
Please tell me what color hat on this video?
I love seeing hatters actually crease their hats with just their hands
Why in the WORLD did Akubra stop making these??
