  • Jingshan Park is located at 44 Jingshan West Street, Xicheng District, Beijing. It is situated on the north-south central axis of the city and is the best viewing area to overlook the panoramic view of the Forbidden City and the central axis of Beijing. Jingshan Park faces the Shenwu Gate of the Forbidden City across the street to the south, and is adjacent to Beihai Park to the west. It covers an area of 230000 square meters and has an elevation of 94.2 meters. It was once the highest point on the central axis of Beijing.
The history of Jingshan Park can be traced back to the Jin Dynasty, initially serving as the "North Garden" of the royal court. When the capital was established in the fourth year of the Yuan Dynasty (1267), Jingshan became the imperial garden within the imperial city. In the 18th year of the Yongle reign of the Ming Dynasty (1420), a earthen mountain was built on the basis of the Yanchun Pavilion in the Yuan Dynasty and named "Wansui Mountain". In the twelfth year of the Shunzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1655), "Wansui Mountain" was renamed "Jingshan". In 1928, Jingshan was officially opened to the public as a park. After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, key buildings in Jingshan Park were renovated and reopened in 1955. In 1957, the Beijing Municipal People's Government listed Jingshan Park as the first batch of ancient architectural and cultural relics protection units.
Jingshan Park is not only a royal garden of the Ming and Qing dynasties, but also an excellent place for tourists to climb high and overlook the panoramic view of the Forbidden City today. The main attractions in the park include five pavilions on the mountaintop: Zhou Appreciation Pavilion, Guan Miao Pavilion, Wan Chun Pavilion, Ji Fang Pavilion, and Fu Lan Pavilion. Various cultural activities such as the Peony Flower Exhibition and the Jingshan Choral Festival are held year-round in the park, attracting a large number of tourists to visit.
