Still can't get over how Whelen managed to simulate a true Attack Signal on a Electronic Siren usually they only offer the faster type of Attack called Wail
It's not a true attack signal. They are repeatedly activating them in noon test. The controls can do it with costume firmware. HSS (re-brands Whelen's products) leveraged this when they installed a system of 2905's in Saudi Arabia to make them do a true, albeit wonky sounding, attack tone similar to the older sirens. They'd need to be modified to do this, which is something that most vendors won't do.
That was me lol I just moved to Minneapolis from NYC and when I heard those sirens I thought we were getting bombed or something freaked me out how it was a constant pitch the whole time.
Damn people sure do bitch a lot in the comments about how long it took to here the siren, maybe if people would check the description they’d see you posted a time stamp, great video brotha
When my parents first moved to MSP they were so freaked out by the siren. Luckily the neighbour explained. It happened quite often in the summer for it to go off when bad storms hit.
These were activated for a real Tornado Warning back on August 14th 2020 at 8:20 PM search Minneapolis MN Tornado Warning August 14th 2020 there are a couple videos on UA-cam
I thought the echo sounded creepy also. These ones are voice capable so idk why Minneapolis didn't do that however I think the digital billboards within downtown will display tornado warning if it's issued
@@mnsirens I guess I didn't know much about the wehlen's as much as I thought. I thought the Vortex R4's had voice. The 4004 models do I seen another video. The R4's and 4004's look similar. What I find confusing There's two on Marquette Ave at 4th and 6th and one on Nicollet on 12th or 11th.
@@Worces2000 I don't think outdoor advert digital billboards will flash "TORNADO WARNING" while everyone is out on the streets driving through Hennepin Avenue. I think that would be a distraction versus it being helpful. In my opinion. The only way to grab us city folk's attention is by Emergency Alert Messages on our smartphones. They're more quicker that way. Also, too, a company running the billboard ads that are digital will cost money. I kid you not. Thousands of dollars just for a sign. So, I think it wise NOT to flash big words up front people's faces. There are other ways to grab their attention without putting fear in them.
Wireless Emergency Alerts are not triggered for monthly siren tests. The Emergency Alert System monthly test may appear on TV radio but not necessary at 1pm when the sirens are
It reminds me a lot of Seoul, South Korea’s siren system.
The siren starts at 4:32
And at 7:39

I can’t help but imagine a visitor from some place where they don’t have sirens, hearing that creepy wailing sound and freaking out, lol.

I can recognize the tone signal of a Whelen anywhere.
that echo sounds exactly like some of my local siren ambiance!

Bradford WIMN No they’re not. OA-2s use Whelen Type I panels just like the Vortexes do, so all of Minneapolis’ sirens are tone only.

Do they give a warning on the tv or phone that they're testing the sirens?
