My granny had one of these brand new. I was with her the day she drove it off of the lot at Sam White Oldsmobile in Houston. Hers was 1990 model gold sedan with leather. I remember she got in the car with the salesman and lit a cigarette on the test drive. She got out and said “I want it.” Never even drove it. Granny was an old school black granny that didn’t tolerate foolishness. I was in my early 20s back then and I knew better than to tell her she couldn’t smoke a cigarette in a brand new car.
I still own 2. A Blue 1992 Old cutlass supreme 3.1 and a white 1996 3100 with the OBD2 ecm 3100 has noticeably more power but they aren't mopping anyone up any Quarter miles. They are just vintage reminders of the awesome 1990s we all miss. The cars were quite innovative. GM was ahead of their time on many things. 16inch wheels, the touch hvac system on the 1992 that literally used the blend door servos that are still used today...and the quality was night and day better back then. Their OEM providers were much better quality. Such as TRW.
I think the great sound of those 2.8 V6's made it way more thrilling than it actually was. GM was thinking well if you can't be fast, at least sound good! haha
had a 1990 CS coupe with the 3.1 - it was around a 10-second 0-60. Best friend had a 1989 GrandAm with the Quad-4 and it was noticeably quicker - probably around 8-second 0-60. The CS was a great highway cruiser though, very smooth riding and got really good fuel mileage.
I love those cars. Had e coupes and two convertibles with 3.4. Had a 2.8 3.1 and rest with 3.4DOHC engines. I still have one covertible from 93 and still looks sharp. I miss those beautiful and unique cars.

Hey Chris, it's still a beautiful car and definitely a rare one. I never heard of them till I saw your first video on it. How is your "dealership" doing? Still got my eyes on that 2014 Charger pursuit I mentioned last year, hasn't moved, maybe he'll take less
Sweet video!! I know that you have alot going on with this test but I wonder if a few .00's could be knocked off by manually shifting the car, starting off in first and keeping the rpms up. The third gear in that tranny is very lazy. I own more than one car with the GX3 (3.33:1) tranny and they are good enough for first and second but after that....
You can try to find these older cars reviews on the MotorWeek UA-cam channel on their retro review playlist, they have almost everything and they do a lot of performance reviews too.
I think if you had set it on 2 and not fumbled with the phone you could have got to 10 or so. Great video, keep them coming. Really like that car for some weird reason.
Hey Chris, let's see... One hand on the timer, one hand on the camera, driving with??? Knees? You need to recruit your dad as a full time helper. This was a fun video, amazing with such low HP that those 80's cars were reasonably quick.
The 2.8 was just barely better than a 4 cylinder. When GM bored it out to the 3.1 in ‘89 on the Cutlass it made a difference. Those have about 20 more hp and tq.
The Quad 4 was the highest horsepower offering and was considerably quicker than both the 2.8/3.1. Especially with the standard 5 speed tranny. 1990 of course though.
Pretty quick getting out the vids there Chris! They salt brined the roads just the other day for that non existent storm lol. If you ever need someone to help with videos, I could quietly sit in the passenger seat and work that stop watch for you. I’ve got 3 hours free mornings Monday through Friday if you ever want help.
Hey I dont want 2 sound mean or cruel but it's better to accelerate full throttle from stop to 60 instead of attempting a launch like that., it might be losing power when it gets dumped into gear., motor sounds good!
Hey, I'm not gonna disagree with you about that Olds being slow. For the time however, it was pretty spirited but I'm so glad those times are long gone now!

It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. My daily driver has something like an 11 second 0-60 but it's a very comfortable 0-60.

I had one of these. I loved it unconditionally. I wish I never sold it. I would buy another but in Europe they are a RARE breed.
This Oldsmobile Cutlass can't have modern car acceleration but at the same time is way cooler than the rest of the cars on the road :)
That car is much cooler then a Tesla anyway 😎
It actually has a little style.
that plastic dash design is classic 80s i think not power braking and just flooring it seemed like a better run great video

Great vids of these old cars.
I had 86 Pontic grand prx
I loved the car decent power
Right on Chris,
I'm glad you're having better luck with this 0-60 series than me. Lol
-Chuck
Yo
I'd do a 0-60 on my 88 Town Car but it seems to have a head gasket leak
@@iliketowncars
Go for it.
See if you can find one of those mini hour glasses out of an old board game.

@@PanzerPlatform with how quick it hits peak torque it's actually not much slower than the 4.6L cars

Better yet, a calendar. Lol

all that power just pulled your phone right off the dash LOL
Hey Chris!! Keep the videos coming!!
How’s the wholesale license going?
Great video

Hermoso auto
Nice. It sure looked alot faster than that (LOL)
Cool car 😀
I woulda LOST that bet
..I had a Beretta GT with the 2.8 and it felt quick! I was thinking 8 ta 9 secs for the Olds
What's up with the Astro? What direction are you taking it?
I think if you had set it on 2 and not fumbled with the phone you could have got to 10 or so. Great video, keep them coming. Really like that car for some weird reason.
Does it have OBD1 or is that too early too?
There are figures in an article in car and driver. The 0-60 is listed as 11.4 for the cutlass.
I got one of those rusting quietly in my bachyard. Jus' sayin'.
In the 1980s if a late model car hit 60 in 10 seconds that was considered very good.

@@jiggity76 eh, when they weren’t cracking heads and blowing head gaskets.
I just wonder how many people traded on or junked rusted out 68-72 cutlass or 442's to buy these

Looks like New Castle 🏰 miss DE
So that’s how you check 0 to 60 on an old car
Check out chris tearin up gov prinz.. you're almost to my place in Marcus Hook . how's the wholesale business doin? Dig the channel
specs from the day say it went 0-60 in 9.7 seconds. I don't know about that though.
But it sounds like it's hauling ass! LOL

I can hear your neighbors buzzing about how that guy that drives the Cutlass is tearing up the road again lol. 🤣
At least it’s faster than a Honda Civic.
The Wagon was fast
I remember they had a nickname of "Gutless Cutless" lol
💨💨💨💨💨💨💨💨💨💨👌Chris
What a cool car. Needs a big turbo 😂
You know they have 0-60 apps for that
But if you cover a quarter mile in that time, then thumbs up! (1/4 mile in 12 seconds at 60 mph lol)
If you did that 0-60 down here, you could do it in the 9s... Cars are fast here😅
Man that things was a turrd.......hey the caviler came with a 2.8 i bet same engine in a way lighter body the caviler RIPPED

10 sec max
That was still pretty slow for 1988 you have to be real about that. A quick car would’ve been eight or nine seconds
It was slow it was perfectly average
slow
No way, are you serious?
