  • Sogod is located in northern Cebu.
The name is derived from the word Panagsogod. It means “the beginning” in the Cebuano-Visayan language. It is a celebration of Sogod's history and a thanksgiving to the municipality's patron saint, St. James the Apostle.
    The story of St. James
He was captured and taken to and executed. He was ordered to be beheaded, by King Herod Agrippa. His body was transported by boat to Padron on the Galician coast and then taken to inland to be buried at what is now Santiago de Compostela.
The remains of St. James was in the famous Shrine of St. James in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
