The saddest thing about this scene is that at first Dumbo thinks they're not laughing at him, but rather laughing with him. The way he shakes his ears and smiles makes me so sad. Great movie
I had a friend who used to laugh along with her bullies even though she knew she was being hurt, but by laughing along she at least wouldn't be that hurt by them until one day her bully crossed the limit and my friend literally bruised the bully on the face. :D the bully never showed her face to my friend after that.
I saw a video where a baby elephant was taken away from its mother just a few minutes after it was born. The mother was hooked on chains and was struggling to get to her baby, the baby never got to interact with the mother and these were circus elephants
+CynderSpirit Luthy Yep that happends all the time. not only to elephants but all animal babies in circuses. They take the babies away from their mothers when they born asap to start training. they don't even let the moms bond or see their babies at all. those fuckhole people make them do shit for them before they can even walk or open their eyes. its so fucked up. I want to do that to those animal trainers babies
+CynderSpirit Luthy I think it's done specifically to avoid situation like in this video. Still doesn't make it right, but at least now you know the logic behind it.
Bryan HP I agree wholeheartedly with you on that. Mrs. Jumbo was just protecting her child. We need to treat others with respect, however two wrongs don't make a right. I'm not saying that the bratty boy didn't deserve it, I'm just saying we shouldn't fight fire with fire. Yes, Mrs. Jumbo is a good mother.
One of the most heartbreaking scenes in any Disney movie. Mrs. Jumbo was trying to protect Dumbo and she ended up being locked up because she was very upset at those boys for bullying Dumbo and therefore was deemed a "Mad Elephant", that part made me cry. Nevertheless, I love this movie especially since I will forever be a fan of all animated Disney movies.
You know, none of this would've happened if that kid just leave Dumbo alone. It's all that bully's fault! I feel very bad for Mrs. Jumbo and Dumbo. If I was there and saw the whole thing, I would've told the master everything that happened in the beginning of it. About that kid's doings, and about Mrs. Jumbo just being protective for her son. The bully should've gotten in huge trouble instead!
This scene is much more realistic then you think; elephants are very protective of their young and you don't pick on a baby elephant in front of its mother unless you're suicidal.
In this scene, I don't blame Mrs. Jumbo for being protective of Dumbo. I mean you can't blame an animal for it's nature especially when protecting it's young.
+Rhianna Barr I know this sounds bad for me to say but, maybe Mrs. Jumbo should have stepped and squashed that bully where I'm sure in real life if someone went into an elephants area and bullied the elephants child, the mother elephant would squash a person.
+missredhotbunny yes it does happen. if elephants even try to touch their babies fucking people do hit them or pull them away from their babies. right when their born, they r taken away from their babies. fucking hate it
This movie came out in 1941. Culture has changed drastically in the way society views animals. This movie was also shockingly racist; remember Jim Crowe and the other crows.

It's not just elephants; it's all species of animals - including humans too. This symptom is called "zoochosis" - repetitive neurotic behaviour that occurs when an animal is confined in a place where it has little to no physical and mental stimulation for too long.
Yes. And I heard it isn't a normal behavior, meaning it's not something they do in the wild. It's like the orcas held in captivity, when the mother and her calf are separated and they cry out trying to call to each other making sounds that are not what they do in the wild/ocean.
+mileycyrusfan197 Hopefully one of the guards saw that bully making fun of Dumbo and entering into Mrs. Jumbo and Dumbo's area and that guard hopefully threw the kid out of the circus area.
Exactly. That bully had it coming to him. However, it's the ringmaster's and his staff's responsibility to watch for things like this. I blame him for what happened too.
I actually think this is sadder than both Bambi and Simba losing their mother and father respectively as Dumbo is separated from his mother all because she taught that brat a lesson. I am suprised the ringmaster did not think of putting Mrs Jumbo to sleep as any person would do that if an animal was too dangerous to be kept alive.
rstein926 It's much sadder simply because how they died, while Dumbo's mother is alive but he can't even see her. There was a line in the 5th Transformers movie that sums it up but I forget the exact words
Poor Dumbo. All his mother did was defend/protect him. Those kids we’re being soo mean to Dumbo, and she taught those kids a lesson, and as a result, she gets locked up for it.! That ain’t right! Now, in the remake they added two friendly kids, who treated Dumbo as a friend/baby brother/member of their family.
Rumble Delta Patrick Stewart once said, "the most dangerous animal in the world is a mother protecting her young." It's doesn't matter the species, you don't fuck with a mothers child unless u have a death wish!
Welcome to Mother Nature everybody. (Fuck circuses.) Where if you mess with an animal's offspring, you better fuckin' run. Seriously... I actually don't fucking blame Mrs. Jumbo.
Mrs. Jumbo had every right to stomp on those cruel bullies. How would that kid making fun of Dumbo's ears like it if they called him buck teeth? What a piece of garbage.
AJ Dezelle Yes she was. But you also to have to take this into consideration. Elephants, especially those with children, can become so in raged that they will accidentally trampled their own children. So the circus handlers took her baby to protect him from accidentally getting trampled by his own mother.
Yeah I agree the same. Dumbo mom does not deserved to be jailed like a mad elephant. Hey all mothers protect there kids animals including humans. I have a disability, and I get bullied and picked on because of my disease. If they hit or touch me my parents told me someone should restraint my parents because they will go after them. My parents are really protective especially my dad. If someone bullies me, watch out!!!
The ringmaster should've told the kids to stop teasing Dumbo instead of separating him from his mother because she's doing what is a motherly instinct and that is to protect her child from the child's tormentors. That kid deserved what he got. Also... They shouldn't have separated Dumbo from his mother because the worse thing that you could do in nature when facing a mother is separate her from her child. This is a really sad scene in this movie because Mrs. Jumbo's actions were misunderstood by the ringmaster and the circus staff.
I'm Donald Drump and bling bling I'm the King You’re right. Mothers can be very defensive when it comes to their children. But you also have to take this into consideration. Well taking away Dumbo away from his mother may seem like a bad thing, they did it because they want to make sure she wouldn’t accidentally trample her own child. It has happened in real life. Sometimes when elephants get so enraged they trample anything and sometimes that means their own children
This scene has always angered and saddened me. Mrs Jumbo was just trying to protect her kid like any loving mother would do, but nobody stops to think about that. They just believe she went "mad" and lock her away. Even worse, they separate Dumbo from her which traumatises him while it throws her into a frenzy. As for the Ringmaster, the guy's an idiot. Whipping and tieing down a distressed animal to calm it. Seriously, how stupid are these people?!
+Sam Konkel I agree. Either the ringmaster and/or the guards should have been in the tent since the ringmaster was clueless saying "what's going on?" at 0:50 and called the guards in the tent at 0:55.
Don't be rude, they're just kids. And eventually the boy's time will come someday when he grows up, and matures. But yes, they need to be convinced that they shouldn't go into an animal pen, or mess with baby animals.
Sarah Lewars I think he did got in trouble and probably Learned his lesson and unfortunately although Mrs. Jumbo was protecting Dumbo, but her anger went out of hand. Like destroying everything, almost cause someone their lives.
In the book The boy says “what a clumsy elephant” which does anger Mrs Dumbo enough to just shake him, but he harassed dumbo enough to cause his mom to go berserk
Ugh if I could magically go into a movie whilst it was happening, it would be this one just so I could beat the crap out of that annoying ginger kid. Mrs Jumbo's actions are totally justified.
I never noticed u til now that her eyes turn red when she goes on her "rampage". Neat little detail, but now I wish they hadn't included it. It makes her seem like she's actually trying to hurt people, rather than just protecting her baby.
Those elephants that were making fun of him should have been the " mad elephant" I mean that was cruel now at least at the and it is a happy ever after like all of the Disney movies have a happy ever after
I'm so glad they didn't add max whipping Mrs jumbo in the live action because if they did I was going to be crying 😢 real bad but they did a similar situation to this in the new movie
You right but that bully started it and if we were there we should have warned the bully not to cross the rope fence and if he didn't listen we should tell the ring master what was happening
I was bird watching a flock of geese once. Then I saw a young kid once, maybe three or four, go up to one of the goslings and grab it. He held on while it was obviously struggling to get away. I was surprised the chick’s parents didn’t come up and bite the crap out of the kid. It was worse than that though- the kid’s parents just watched and the kid probably never learned we should leave animals alone.
I seriously think Walt Disney was an animal rights activist because a good number of his movies, especially his earlier ones (Dumbo, Bambi, 101 Dalmatians, The Fox & the Hound) depict the horrors and consequences of animal rights issues such as abuse, exploitation, hunting, and the fur industry. Who else agrees?
I always hated this scene as a kid and still do now. If some employee was in there supervising the animals and kids, they would know that it's not her fault because she was just protecting her baby from bully kids that went into the pen and started hurting her baby. Where wer any parents or employees? Then put them through the trauma of being separated and locked up. Alone, scared and so sad. Hes too young a baby to be without mommy.
I LOVE the fact she spanked that stupid kid and threw that fatass Ringleader in the tank but HATED it that she got locked up for protecting Dumbo (HER SON) and that they animals weren't enclose well enough so STUPID PEOPLE could get in and torture/interfere with the animals.
When I was a kid I thought it was obvious she was just protecting her baby. Funny because I didn’t understand people’s motivations. I am on the medium autism spectrum and maybe understand animals better. Though I guess it’s just that no one saw or cared what those brats were doing so it really did look like Mrs. Jumbo had snapped.
I just wanna say to those bullies, "I don't think it's nice you're laughing... Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it."
Last August my mom went insane because of taking steroids and the sad part is that this is exactly how I viewed the situation: like someone was taking away my mother, unable to view again like the way I have always done.
At the end when you see them swaying, that's how real elephants portray high levels of stress. If you watch videos of elephants in captivity, they do the same thing.
lol the boy trying to run away. That is how baby elephants sound btw when they took Dumbo away from his mommy. Its always horrid hearing any animal cry, but a baby animal is heartbreaking. Especially when its being taken from their own mothers. How the fuck can humans laugh at that shit? Its like taking babies away from humans n laughin
Humans who bullings other Humans are evil enaugh, but Humans who bulling a little ANIMAL which doesn't even understand them and can't counter-argue because it's a Child is waay worser. Kids are awfull.
In the books, the bully redeemed himself and even rode dumbo at the end. It's a shame they didn't include it on the film. We're all naive and do stupid things when we're young, the important thing is to learn from our mistakes.
These old Disney movies (Bambi, Dumbo, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, etc.) are so gut-wrenching. Were they trying to prep toddlers and kids for war by introducing them to horrible realities? Kids of today like my nephew couldn't stomach this stuff.
Cartman was right all along. Gingers are evil. All kidding aside, this is such a sad scene. Mrs. Jumbo wasn't even hurting that dumbass kid. She was just disciplining him. Something his parents obviously failed at. >:(
The saddest thing about this scene is that at first Dumbo thinks they're not laughing at him, but rather laughing with him.
Dumbo is beauty baby animal a word in walt disney dumbo
Melody1474 1
Makes me sad too but it also makes me melt! I just want to give him a hug!
dumbo is like 3 years old thinking no one is making fun of him even though miss jumbo knows whats going on!
she was protecting her Child
He was lucky that he got a spanking...she could have done a lot worse.
Did she have to throw that haybale at the fleeing crowd? She had to learn some anger control!
Jebediah Harrington That haybale could have injured someone!
samanli2014 They could have injured Dumbo with all the pulling and blowing at him.
samanli2014 elephants protect their children ok
Besides.... THE CIRUS OWNERS A B*TCH
This scene in this movie makes me wonder about every animal you hear about going berserk.
+CynderSpirit Luthy ikr. n people wonder y animals in circuses do stuff like this

That kid with the orange hair should look in the mirror himself, before making fun of anyone.
That was sort of the point here
John F. I'll crack his TEETH out into Oblivion
Hell yeah he hella ugly
John F. He literally has autism
He's a ginger, he has no soul.
She showed those brats and jerks what a good, loving mother does for her kids. You rock, Mrs. Jumbo!
agree

Mrs. Jumbo was a badass!

I'm not saying that the bratty boy didn't deserve it, I'm just saying we shouldn't fight fire with fire. Yes, Mrs. Jumbo is a good mother.
But if elephants were people, her attempted murder charges would be far greater than the assault charges against the people who made fun of Dumbo.
One of the most heartbreaking scenes in any Disney movie. Well the scene didn't make me cry as a kid. I feel the emotional deep within the soul than with my eyes.
It made me a bit angry because of the injustice of it all.
She was only trying to defend her son.

Imagine if he bullies Simba's son Kion.
Judging by the boys' clothing this was set in the 30's... People were retarded back then.
Im glad Mrs. Jumbo spanked that bully! ALL mothers will fight to the death for their kids.
In this scene, I don't blame Mrs. Jumbo for being protective of Dumbo. I mean you can't blame an animal for it's nature especially when protecting it's young.

+woollybully100 ikr that kid called Dumbo "big ears" yet he didn't look at himself in the mirror
+rstein926 He kinda looks like him, though.
I haven't seen the movie, but I read a novelization of the movie. I believe in it, the bully regrets what he's done
Ringmaster: Settle Down!
I hate the fact he keeps hitting her with a whip its animal cruelty and the sad thing I it happens in real life
+missredhotbunny yes it does happen. if elephants even try to touch their babies fucking people do hit them or pull them away from their babies. right when their born, they r taken away from their babies. fucking hate it

This movie came out in 1941. Culture has changed drastically in the way society views animals. This movie was also shockingly racist; remember Jim Crowe and the other crows.
I guess that's why some people label the ringmaster as a villain.
missbunny I don’t think America back then cared about animal cruelty....
Early 1900s America sucked
I won't be surprised if the boy who picked on Dumbo ends up going to Pleasure Island ("Pinocchio").
That bully reminds me of Lampwick.
Even looks like him too!
SailorMoonDisneyGirl626 I think they were drawn the same
What if it is him? Oh my...
Hannah Papernick-Yudin he kinda looks like one of my favorite second cousins from Illinois. He also looks like young Hercules in Disney’s Hercules.

Patrick H what goes around comes around

@CameraMan66 I love this movie, and I've never seen this as her acting crazy. Nobody would see a human mom defending her bullied kid as her snapping.

Miss that woman so much.
She lashed out at a kid!. From Joe. X
Mrs. Jumbo: Beautiful 😍
There should be a sign that says: "Do not tease the animals "
You’re right
That kid was dumb enough to torment a baby elephant with its mom nearby. He would not have paid attention to the sign.
You're absolutely correct.
This was the 40s. We didn’t have the Animal Welfare act until the LBJ administration.
@@eaglesfan226 But you could have at least put one there due to common sense, seeing as some of the animals are dangerous.
I didn't really understand this scene as a kid, but I was always sad that Mrs. Jumbo got thrown into elephant jail for getting back at that bully.
that stupid boy deserved it. he shouldn't have made fun of dumbo's ears, that's exactly what he gets!

It was all that bully's fault on why mrs jumbo went berserk and got locked up and poor dumbo was all alone!
I feel bad for Dumbo for losing is mother like that
Taya Calder Me too.
Taya Calder likewise. What the ringmaster did was cruelty to animals
I always cry at this all she was trying to do was protect her child
She was only protecting her child
One thing about classic Disney: it didn't sugarcoat how cruel and unfair life is much of the time.
In the book The boy says “what a clumsy elephant” which does anger Mrs Dumbo enough to just shake him, but he harassed dumbo enough to cause his mom to go berserk
0:17 look your self mate. Hypocrit
Damn nature, you scary.
the most hated kid in history....
That brat mocks Dumbo's ears, and he also has huge ears -_-
I always cried at that part. The mom thought the kids were laughing with him too but then to figure out they were laughing at him? Jesus Christ.
jai actually she knew the kids were laughing at him. That’s why when the kid was flapping his cape she created a barrier between him and Dumbo.
Dumbo: Amen 🙏

I seriously don't understand why they make fun of him. He is just the cutest little elephant in the world!
This is why you need proper security. These kids shouldn't have even got the chance to get that close.
Those elephants that were making fun of him should have been the " mad elephant" I mean that was cruel now at least at the and it is a happy ever after like all of the Disney movies have a happy ever after
Sparkle Kitty jkk
For an animated movie, watching Dumbo cry at the end makes me tear up
loved this movie as a kid...still love it for the feels...the feels man!
lol the feels
0:44 Don't bully my son!
Mrs Jumbo: That's what you get!
Me: Nice work Mrs Jumbo for protecting your baby!
Smitty: Let Me Go!
Bratty kid! I always hated him!!!
Every Disney movie has at least one scary scene. Personally, I think this is far scarier than the Pink Elephants.
I'm so glad they didn't add max whipping Mrs jumbo in the live action because if they did I was going to be crying 😢 real bad but they did a similar situation to this in the new movie
The part when I saw that kid blowing Dumbo's ear that made me angry and sad deep in my heart. 😞😤💔
if i was in was in the movie ill never laugh at dumbo, i will say is cute
AngryGermanKidoble right
1:26 I thought he was really angry, but I didn't realised his clothes where shrinking and he was hurt.
Never wear silk #lol
Tomedy he deserved it totally!!
It's wasn't her fault. Those kids were teasing Dumbo and one of them kept pulling his ears.
To be fair to the ringmaster, he was right to take Dumbo away. Mrs. Jumbo nearly STEPS on her baby. 1:00 He probably did it for Dumbo’s safety.
Dumbo looks cute when he's flapping his ears
Very sad scene. That orange hair kid deserved to was spanked by Mrs. Jumbo. All the bullys are sick-soul persons...
Imagine if Caillou was the kid that teased Dumbo.
The sad thing is she was doing what most elephants would do.
Did anyone else notice when she goes beserk her eye go red?
Marvin Gloria yes, I noticed that
It could be an error on the artists part
I just wanna say to those bullies, "I don't think it's nice you're laughing... Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it."
Last August my mom went insane because of taking steroids and the sad part is that this is exactly how I viewed the situation: like someone was taking away my mother, unable to view again like the way I have always done.
At the end when you see them swaying, that's how real elephants portray high levels of stress. If you watch videos of elephants in captivity, they do the same thing.
I am glad that they finally banned elephants from the circus this movie proves how badly they are treated they should of never Been there
Gotta deal with this daily at school. I feel ya Dumbo.
it's really funny and so satisfying seeing that bully get what he deserves he needs a good spanking
lol the boy trying to run away.
Whipping an angry mama elephant...yeah, that'll calm her down.
for me it is kind of funny, he doesn't know better but keeps flapping his ears.
0:44 Mrs Jumbo 😠
Humans who bullings other Humans are evil enaugh, but Humans who bulling a little ANIMAL which doesn't even understand them and can't counter-argue because it's a Child is waay worser. Kids are awfull.
In the books, the bully redeemed himself and even rode dumbo at the end.
It's a shame they didn't include it on the film.
We're all naive and do stupid things when we're young, the important thing is to learn from our mistakes.
Yes, I agree
These old Disney movies (Bambi, Dumbo, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, etc.) are so gut-wrenching. Were they trying to prep toddlers and kids for war by introducing them to horrible realities? Kids of today like my nephew couldn't stomach this stuff.
That is one thing they might change in the new movie, at least two of the kids will befriend and help Dumbo apparently.
Cartman was right all along. Gingers are evil.
All kidding aside, this is such a sad scene. Mrs. Jumbo wasn't even hurting that dumbass kid. She was just disciplining him. Something his parents obviously failed at. >:(
that is the reason why they should put up warning signs. Many people are not aware of animal behaviour.
Bad boy!!!! Leave dumbo alone! You go Mrs jumbo! You go Mrs jumbo! Destroy that mean asshole.
0:44
I knew it was Jumbo! But the name was still called Dumbo.😟😟😟 Maybe it was called Jumbo in my country
There's one important memo of this movie: DON'T MESS WITH MRS. JUMBO'S BABY!!!!
Most heart breaking scene in a Disney movie, next to the death of Bambi’s mother.
