Steve Farmer wrote this and at least twenty tunes on the first 3 Amboy Dukes LP's...Steve passed away 4/6/2020..he performed this tune locally here in Detroit on acoustic guitar...Sadly missed RIP Steve
Thank you for covering this! Straight from his mouth today: “precious & damn close but it AINT about the notes per se but rather the subtleties of the delivery(more BB King than "rock"!) I was 19!!!! 18 when I created it!! phenom!!!”
Tom, you exceeded my expectations on this song, you are a great guitarist and instructor!!! thank you for doing this song! I hope everyone else enjoys this.
I cover this tune but the leads always make me nervous. Good to review with you. Thanks. This song is in my top 500 easily. Far out leads. Ted has talent. Tried to watch his Star Licks lesson. Some classic picking in that but he gets a little weird ha ha! Imagine if he was a school teacher.
I got it down thanks to you an Ted wacth his video at a gutier concerns it geart I don't I'm I dum but I like watching you to playing huct on it 👍👀👀👀👍some time I get on something an I will wacth it for you an Ted for ever 👍an I like that song
Man that's good 👍don't look to hard I'm going to tray it love that song always did when it first come out been playing in bands when we was 14. Still doing it but stop for about 20 years didn't want to do it any more but my nephew got me going again an loveing it again
Hi. I'm a Detroiter from the 60s who grew up with this song and have spent many years trying to hear and analyze it, so I could learn to play it as closely as-possible to the original recording. Overall, I think you made a good effort, and I'll give you props for a one thing, in particular, that most of the covers and tutorials don't get quite right: the bends on the long sustained note near the beginning of the intro solo. Most players overbend this one. Nugent's note is actually a bit flat, compared with the actual scale tone, but it adds character and sounds sweet in context, before he slowly lets the pitch descent subtly. I think you kind of illustrated that with a bit of indistinct hand waving as you were describing it... There were a couple of other areas that were well done and accurately illustrated, but I there's one small bit where you totally missed the mark, and you repeated it in both the first and second solos. Also, I don't think you've sufficiently portrayed the differences between the three solos -- yes, there are similarities, but there are also a lot of subtle differences. I have to admit that I'm kind of obsessed with this song, and I don't mean to be uncomplimentary. You probably didn't waste as much of your life as I have trying to figure it out and have moved on to others, which I'll have to take a look at. I've given your effort a thumbs-up, because I appreciate anyone who takes the time to try to help others out. I loved breaking this one down, and would even enjoy discussing how I see and hear things differently, if we were able to sit down and compare notes. Finally, no, I haven't made a video, so feel free to ridicule me for that. One of these days, I will and will be open to others calling me out on what I do wrong. I just want to learn to play this song right, not just BE right in my opinion. Cheers!
Thanks for your comments. I'm sure you have listened to this song much closer than I have and many more times from what it sounds like. Actually other than hearing it as a kid a couple times on the radio I just decided to learn it so I could teach it. So I listened a day or two and practiced and that's what I came up with. On some of my solos I like to be completely precise but I will say on this one I don't doubt that I was generalizing on some parts.
It would have helped if you called out the fret and the string as you played it. I had to slow down the video to even begin to follow you. It is hard to see your finger position.
Okay thanks for the feedback. It's hard cuz there's all different levels of players that watch and some don't want too much detail but I totally understand your point thanks

From St.Louis? Where did you go to high school? (hahahaha) another great lesson thanks!
Nice job. You really nailed it and the bends were perfect.
How about Part 2 of Stranglehold? That one might be a challenge.
👍💪💪
hey, Tom--you should do "We Ain't Got Nothin' Yet" by the Blues Magoos. Killer scale run!
It's a simple pentatonic scale. Slow it down and you should be able to get it.
Did you do the tab for this one?
No, sorry to say
I wish that I had 1/100 of that ability.
It would have helped if you called out the fret and the string as you played it. I had to slow down the video to even begin to follow you. It is hard to see your finger position.

@@LEADSOLO What are the amp settings?
Hi Tom excellent not adding this to your lessons
Thanks....I can't find any good tabs for this song, they all suck and show the Wrong chords.
That tone is sooo far off the mark , you could have at least ATTEMPTED to use a hollow body , but nice try !
