  • At the 1987 Tony Awards, Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon presented Best Choreography and Best Director. In what appears to be completely impromptu, Fosse takes a moment to acknowledge and pay tribute to his longtime partner, which brings deserved cheers from the audience at the Mark Hellinger Theatre.

Omg, I just love what Bob Fossie said about his 3rd wife Gwen Verdon. They were so cute together when they from Damn Yankees did that wonderful dance Who's Got The Pain. They were so insinc, their dancing, Bob Fossie and his Shadow,Gwen. Gwen Verdon and her Shadow, Bob. I watch this dance number every day. Along with Gwen in What Lola Wants, Lola Gets. She was such a Siren in that number. Fantastic!! Last time I saw Gwen Verdon was on an episode of Walker Texas Ranger. 1996 area. I loved her in Cocoon Movies. Tom Selleck, Magnum series. I miss her. 😢

I also agree with that. They loved each other to the end. They danced so well together. But couldn't be together. Life can get so complicated. It's sad.

This was one year after their Broadway revival of Sweet Charity, which won four Tonys, including Best Revival. Fosse had also won best choreography for Big Deal, which was a flop. It was less than four months before Fosse died on the night before the touring production of Sweet Charity opened in DC.

When I first met my late wife I said she bore a strong resemblance to Gwen Verdon. I was taken aback when she said she didn't know who that was. I had spent a brief stint as a dance instructor before the impending Viet Nam draft compelled me to enlist in the Navy, and I adored Gwen Verdon.

They were once married to each other. I love watching Gwen and Bob dance together. They were so darling. Tears to come to my eyes. Just got Damn Yankees DVD great movie, great dancing Gwen and Bob in the movie. For a long time I've been a fan of Gwen Verdon. But never really knew how wonderful a dancer she was. Along with Bob Fossie.i did remember seeing Damn Yankees in the movie theater. From 1950s. I remembered alot of it after 50 years. I made a few memory boo boos. William Bendex didn't play the old fellow, Joe,,who makes a deal with Ray Walston, the Devil, then turns into a young Joe baseball player, played by Tab Hunter. Gwen Verdon, who plays Lola, devil's gal. Also Maureen Stapleton was also in the movie. Before she played Edith Bunker, in the 70s. I still don't know the actor who played old Joe, he sang well. Very good entertaining fun movie. They made alot of those good movies back then and 60s too..😅

I think the dress Gwen Verdon has on here inspired the dress final Michelle Williams wore when portrayed Verdon in the mini-series "Fosse?Verdon".

God bless her heart. She had to endure so much cheating, aggravation, lies and pretense from him. Who could endure all that cheating? I feel sorry for her.

Why did UA-cam take away the thumbs up/down rating? Thank you for this wonderful clip.

Interesting that one of the nominees she read was Ron Field, the original stage choreographer of Cabaret; I wonder how he felt about Fosse's film choreography of Cabaret which probably eclipsed the stage version

Maggie Garber i watched a video where their daughter said that they were completely loyal to each other if you took away the bedroom. and yes that is the same dress. she wore it to the opening night of the 1987 tour of sweet charity in Washington DC

Fosse was a woman’s man. He knew women. He couldn’t stay faithful to just one woman but they stayed married. Gwen was with him when he died.
