    What do you think of the Nissan Leaf? Can you see yourself in one? Annabelle

      I looked at getting one as a company car but theCHAdeMO rapid charger put me off. They are alot harder to find and generally restricted to 50kwh charge speed. Kind of a deal breaker if you want to do long journeys. CHAdeMO is also going to be discontinued so there is no motivation for charger providers to continue spending money on new CHAdeMO chargers

      Ah yes good points, I know they’ve compared CCS to Chademo like Betamax to VHS, however I didn’t know it was being phased out, as you mention it does have its limitations, thank you Mark

    A brilliant solid car. Perfect as a family run around.
    It's a shame Chademo is a dieing standard but I think for the greater good of EV adoption we need one standard and that's now CCS.
    Just put a deposit down on my 3rd LEAF as my family run around. Over 100k miles done on the last 2 LEAF's and they have been bulletproof.

      It's not surprising that Nissan cornered the market with these! It is a shame that they weren't CCS from the start, but as Ben says - in the was of Betamax Vs. VHS there was always going to be a winner and a loser...*A

    looking at getting an EV this year. was looking at the MG4, but no rear interior light, no rear middle headrest, no rear vents... not great when I have 3 kids. Also heard some major complaints of people getting locked in their MG4 and the doors refusing to unlock. (assume it's fixed now, but that would be horrific)
    Never considered the leaf as I assumed it was just old and outdated compared to "modern" EV's, but think it's top of my list now.

    In 2009 I was involved very heavily in installing charging infrastructure in Nissan Dealerships through out the UK. The Gen 1 had just come to market, and was viewed as a novelty by most. No range to speak of, really just a runaround vehicle for local journeys. Nissan had big plans in the early days for market domination. This looks like a much better EV, but the market has eclipsed Nissan I feel? If they are dropping the Leaf in 2025 what next?? Great review as always fair and unbiased👍

    Coming to the end of a lease on a 40kw leaf. I'd kind of written off the leaf due to no CCS. I also imagined the 59kwh would be super heavy, and hard to charge at 50kw.
    Kia Niro EV and Cupra Born became the new shortlist.
    I've since dismissed the Born, due to bad blind spots, wipers set up for LH drive, and VWs bad electronics/touch sensitive controls
    What i learnt recently is that e+ is meant to have 100kw charging. Also, a heat pump is still standard, unlike the Niro. Their weights are near identical. Finally, it is WAY cheaper.
    I'm seriously thinking about going for e+ N Connecta. Even despite the BBQ alloys!

    I've got an e+ N-Connecta coming in April as a company car. It wouldn't have been my personal choice of EV if I could have had anything, but out of a small list of options it was the best of a "meh" bunch really. I could have had an ID.3, e2008, or an Ioniq. I nearly went ID.3, but the waiting list was over a year. As a company car the Leaf attracts £20 a month in BiK tax and my employer will pay for all the charging so it really is a practically "free" car. I bought a diesel SUV as our second car to do all the stuff the Leaf won't.

    • @PlanetautoUK
      @PlanetautoUK  Рік тому

      Yes, it’s a strange time, virtually all manufacturers have this challenge, we enjoyed our experience, as for those incentives you couldn’t ask for more, especially charging, wise thinking with the SUV too. Thank you Graham

    I had never given the Leaf much thought until your video. This looks really smart but some of the people on UA-cam a few years back had problems on road trips with hot battery and slow charging. Now if Nissan had chosen CCS and battery thermal control with reasonable charging rates it could have been a winner. As a day to day car it looks the bussine. Thanks for the video guys, I always look forward to your refreshing take on EVs.

      Very true John, they also seemed to have degradation challenges, something that’s not likely visible at the beginning wellnot to that degree - however it’s a learning curve when your a pioneer, it’ll be interesting to see how Nissan have evolved when we compare it to the Ariya that’s coming soon. @@thomaschilds8781 it's a 2019 model I bought second hand in 2020 and have been using it daily since. It has 60000km on the counter. Honestly, I still like it very much. Comfortable, fully equipped including heat pump, with a long range (easily 450-500 km at summer, around 400km winter). Surprisingly for an "old" car, it still compares very well to the brand new models in terms of efficiency and range. The latest Kona is even better. If budget is limited, I would not hesitate to buy a second hand Kona EV.
      PS: I also chose the Kona over A Tesla because I prefer having a dashboard and a head up display, as well as real physical buttons (to set a/c per example) . I can't stand a central screen.

    More and more people these days are becoming more educated with EVs. One big concern is battery degradation. I own a 2022 Leaf, and I bought it because it was the only Leaf in the entire Phoenix AZ area at the time. The car is great in all aspects except the battery. They should have changed from passive thermal management to water cooling at least. If you’ve driven a fare distance, you will be faced with a much longer than normal charging time because of the battery getting hot. The Leaf would have been practically perfect if they incorporated proper thermal management.

    • @PlanetautoUK
      @PlanetautoUK  6 місяців тому +1

      Very true. As much as they are discontinuing the Leaf, I wouldn’t be surprised if they eventually bring it back as the new and improved model. The Leaf has been a major cash cow for them. I doubt it if they are willing to give up such a lucrative income. Many buyers are not interested in all the flashy overly expensive features automakers are providing. That only represents a small segment of buyers. The majority fall into the Leaf bracket which explains why they sold so many over the years. Bottom line is we will just have to wait and see how things turn out.

    I never owned one, but it was on my short list for a "city" car. I got a Prius instead, mostly for reasons of price and fiability, but I suppose if I wanted an EV, this could have been (or maybe the older version). In my city in Canada where I live, the price of a used 2018 Leaf is bigger than a brand new Toyota Corrola, so I can't really consider it, but a 2014 would have worked, at around 6-7k. On the other hand, if you must ignore the T-word EVs (which I don't, really), there isn't much else you can buy this year, Ioniq 5 are sold out until 2025, same with the EV6, and most other manufacturers either have big waiting lists or charge your right arm and a leg.

Build quality looks pretty damn good & on this model it's the all the tech including the sound system, but it comes at a price 🤔 ev's in general are going to have to come down in price as most people can't afford the initial cost so it's all down to manufacturers making vehicles more 'affordable' to the average person especially the way the cost of day to day living is going...we will Riding around on bicycle 🚲 soon 😆great review planet auto as always 👍

      @robertjohnsontaylor3187 it won’t, it’ll likely sell considerably better than the car, we’ve seen this increase massively in the last few years, SUV sales save car manufacturers. Just look at the top selling vehicles in uk Qashqai, Puma, Sportage - 1 car in the top 5 and 3 in the top 10.

      We really enjoyed our experience, the only challenge was the Chademo speed broadly speaking - the range was fine for us

    Why is it the Leaf always has wheels that look far too small for the body. Specially the rear. Sorry doesn't work for me, yet again.

      Crazy isn’t it 17’s too small Keith, these launched with 15’s- I think they look fine and I do love style too, now the ZS wheels used to look overly small. Thank you 😊

    Awful car!!! This car STILL remains the same as gen 1! In todays modern evs this car feels and looks 10 years older!

      @PlanetautoUK  Рік тому +1

      Naz, same platform but that’s it pretty much, everything else has evolved as I mentioned, looks better balance from Gen 1 too PS they’ve likely evolved it as much as possible battery size, range, hence why it’s going SUV, still sells well 3217 in Dec alone. It stands to reason it’s not as advanced as EV6, 4, eTron etc however it’s great for what it is and many people prefer familiarity.

      @concretehead2790 ok, ive been driving evs for 7 years now, and if you think the leaf still can match todays evs your smoking some good stuff! Go do some research about the 2nd generation leaf and see how its basically repackaged and nothing has much changed apart from the battery size!

      @@PlanetautoUK sorry i dont agree! In todays ev market the 2nd gen, wouldn't come close to like for like platforms battery size etc, nissan is basically drawing out what they can out of this! Pls name me another manufacturer that the 2nd gen £36k can rival??

    • @PlanetautoUK
      @PlanetautoUK  Рік тому +1

      What does it lack, minus thermal charging control and CCS, that’s a need not a convenience. Nissan are capitalising on customers wants, not drawing out, if something is liked and sells who in their right mind would stop selling it🤨 It’s better than it used to be and that’s what people want.

      @@NazzyAli doesn't just match them. it beats many other EV's at this pricepoint in many ways still... most others (Mg4, 2008, Megane, C4 etc) don't even have one pedal driving for instance.
