So I need to address something that keeps coming up, that in hindsight, I wish I had included and explained in the video. WHY did I start at the bottom and work my way up, instead of starting at the top?? So there's a couple of reasons that I choose to do it this way.
1. When you're working on a 2 storey building, if you start at the top when wet media blasting, by the time you get to the bottom there's a big pile of blast media to get through to get to the last few rows of bricks, fighting through that is time consuming and makes an even bigger, unnecessary mess, especially when it splashes back at you, all over your clothes, down your boots and covers your face mask - not nice.
2. Again when starting from the top, by the time you get 5-6 feet down the wall the blast media and grime you're removing from the wall starts to build up into a gloopy slop that sticks to the wall, getting in your way, and obstructing your view of the working area. Working from the bottom up, gives you a completely clear view of the next row above where you're working.
There also seems to be a misconception that the bricks are clean once i've gone over them, they're not, yes the carbon staining has been removed, but there is loads of blast media all over the bricks that can't be removed by spraying/rinsing it with yet more water full of blast media from the nozzle i'm using, the nozzle i'm using is completely ineffective at rinsing down, so regardless of working up, down, left, right or vice versa, the bricks have to be gently pressure washed down at the end, or they will still look filthy. Sorry for the long explanation, but I felt I had to explain this in detail to clear this up. Cheers, Nick 🙂
I think they may be confusing this clean with the one you did 3 years ago "Cleaning Cambridge White Bricks", but there you used the Ibix Trilogy 28. Not the same. Thanks for the explanation!!! Have a great week, Nick. 😉
@@coppertopjohnson9782 thanks Denise, bless you ❤️
I’ve heard you talk about something like this before, but it’s good to go over it periodically for the “newbies”.
Thanks so much for the easy to understand explanation. Makes total sense.
By the way I should have asked you earlier…did you clean the red brick too? It seems like you stopped wherever the beige/yellow bricks met the red ones. Thanks. Love your work.
@@brotoubrotou3164 thanks mate, yes I did, it’s just I would clean them in a section at a time, then move onto the cream ones, because the red ones were softer, so I I’d move the gun further away while I cleaned them so there wasn’t so much pressure on them 👍
I love the level of craftsmanship that went into the brickwork of the house - you won't find it in modern buildings. And the bow windows are wonderful. You did a brilliant, pain-staking job of cleaning all those beautiful bricks - somewhere the original builders are smiling at you.
Aw thank you Teresa ❤️
Why. Didn’t. You. Clean the chills /. Stone bay. ,, As you Go along. Because the lower cleaned brickwork. Get. Dirty .
@@jimmymorgan3324 I explained why in the video and the pinned comment at the top of the page
Would love to see this house when it's fully restored on the outside. Great job!
Sir, I just know that the homeowner is so happy and proud to have chosen you as the professional who could bring back the beauty of that house!!! Bravo sir!!
Talk about STUNNING...! What a difference! The homeowners must have been thrilled when they saw the result!
Hi Donna, many thanks as always. Yes they were super pleased 😌❤️
This is so labour intensive work 1 brick at a time ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks Sheila ❤️😍
It must have taken ages. Great job ❤
Nick, that looked like a LOT of work! Amazing result though, brilliant job.
Thanks for the upload, have a great week :)
Hiya mate, although I get really filthy and the job can appear quite daunting when I start, I can really get a move on when I settle into it, so I quite like doing these, doesn’t hurt that they pay well either 😁. All the best mate 😍
Such beautiful brickwork - does anyone still do this today?? And the effort that goes into cleaning it brick by brick ... I've been following your work for a bit now and you have my deepest respect for what you do. Kudos! ❤
That’s my dream house! Sigh
A proper ‘Play School’ house ( the oldies amongst us will get this reference lol).
I do hope they put the balcony back.
It looked wonderful all cleaned up.
Yes I understand ! I wonder if this house has the bells in the kitchen.
@@AGNETHAFALTSK0G That would be amazing, but I suspect they’ve gone.
I love how they made older homes. Great job!
Me too 💕
It must surely give you a sense of pride to restore the look of that beautiful old building. 😊
Nice brick transformation! You cleaned brick by brick, to remove the dirt and grime. That must have taken you a while. Funny place for a door on the second level. Someone might not pay attention, open it, step outside, and "Oops".
Thanks so much Shirley 🙂. Indeed it was a bit of a strange place for a door, although I think there used to be a railing there at some point, that I think the owner is going to have put back ❤️
So nice to see a beautiful❤ old house get some love. It will be amazing when the restoration is complete
Definitely!!
That looks amazing. You did a fabulous job - and left a nicer place for the stone restoration folks to work on later.
Congratulations, sir.
Thank you very much!
Wow, looks great. You always do the most interesting cleans, just such a variety. I enjoy watching!
Thanks so much! 😊 that really means a lot ❤️
Beautiful house but such a big job for you! Amazing work again, Nick! It is also ok to have an "off" day sometimes!😊
lol thanks Sheila, was worried i was gonna get moaned at for being so grumpy, but needn't have worried, my regulars like you are always so nice to me ❤️
Did you know "Knight House" is where Knight Rider used to live before moving to the US. The carbon on the house is from KITT. The top door of the property is where Micheal Knight used to jump down through the sunroof into KITT.
I can only hope that you're a school kid and that you have a chance to grow out of the silliness and not be a fool into adulthood.
@@Salutimondo lighten up dude.
Sylvia Browne smoked outside this property for many years, she predicted one day a handsome man would restore the bricks and bring them back to life - one prediction she was actually right about!
That was definitely fiddly work. Must have taken forever and a lot of hand strength
@@ruadhscottygirl2480 and shoulder strength!
Love the contrast of that red and white brick after cleaned. Pre-treat with bleach? As you Brits say, brilliant !
Thank you for cleaning up this grand ole dame of a home! She is looking fine now that you took care of her!
There is something I love about pressure washing. So much so I got my own, I love how it transforms my little world every Spring do thanks and it looks great
Ohh, I love this one ❤ Media blasting is one of my favorites anyway, but on such a pretty house it's even better!
Awesome, I thought you might like this one Tatjana 😍
You had an instant Grime Line at 2:57. What a remarkable change on the whole front at the end. Glad your long pole was great for rinsing a two story building. (Under "What were they thinking?", the front wall wasn't done (yet). That sets-up the the view of a home.) Nice you got to do an impressive restoration on the facing bricks.
Well those bricks are as clean as the day they came out of the kiln. Lovely job mate!
Thanks Rich, hope you're doing well mate and keeping busy ❤️
What a lovely guy , I wish he were closer as I would have him do works on my property. Excellent video and really interesting to learn about what happens in restoring those antique bricks. Much love and blessings to you ❤
So nice of you 💕
Gosh, what a result. A huge amount of work but the bricks look like new now! It’s amazing how much difference you can make just by blasting the years of grime away. Great job Nick!! Have a fab week x😊
Your diligence honors the craftsmanship!
such tedious work but it paid off. looks so much more yellow. amazing what water blasting can do. good job.
Wow ! That's seriously labour intensive !! Great job ! It looks amazing !
Thanks Pam ❤
Lovely house flemish bond ,corbeling, dental course and a plinth some lovely features on older properties. You no your stuff Nick beautiful transformation mate 👏 👍
Thanks mate, appreciate that, you clearly do to bud 🤜🤛
Absolutely Beautiful!! I love the final rinse down!!
❤️☺️
Once a King always a King, Once a Knight’s enough! Great job Nick!
😊 thanks
W🤩W!!! That looks amazing! ❤
Big hugs, thanks Randi 😍❤️
Nice work... glad the owners did not just render or paint the building... years ago, when I visited the UK, and admired all the classic architecture in London, all the sandstone and marble places, the amount of staining and grime from the buses, taxis and atmosphere over the many decades was an eye opener for me... it adds character I suppose, but I wonder what they looked like in their prime... the churches, the government buildings, the terraces and houses in the posh areas... It took the stonemasons decades to build them, I wonder what it would take to clean them, even with a huge crew of experts...?
What a painstaking job! Kudos.
Damn that came out nice!
Thanks ☺️
Beautiful transformation 👍😊🌷
Awesome job. It looks amazing amazing. I just wish the wall had been done as well. There to finish it off to look really awesome
You did a fantastic job. I love brick houses, and this one, with its two colors of brick is a beauty. You should be proud of your work!! I love watching your channel, and have recommended it to several people. Keep up the GREAT work. God bless and have a great week!
Great work! Don't be so grumpy. Be happy. Great video!!
that is one heck of a transformation! nice one Nick!
I was curious about your machine so I went on line to learn about it and then ... I saw the price ! Holy cow it is no joke 😳
Lol, it was worth the investment, as what I charge for these jobs certainly ain't cheap ❤️
Looks fabulous!
Thanks kindly Colleen ❤️
Hello Sir Nick. I'm sure a microbiologist would have a hey day, with samples of the grime coming off that little house, yes?? 117 years of grime and atmospheric dirt !! Well, horse carriages, soot from coal burning stoves, a growing population of vehicle types over 117 years, if that little house could talk !!!
Oh Nick, that came out beautifully !!! It's amazing, really. She can breathe again !!!
Thanks for restoring that house! Beautiful
Very labor intensive but looked great after!
Indeed, thanks Toni 😍
I know you have your own reason why did you not start at the top first .amazing transformation well done ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks again Sheila. It's because if starting at the top, by the time you get to the bottom, there can be loads of blast media in the way of the last few rows of bricks, making it difficult to clean and makes a heck of a mess splashing back at you. It's also easier not having to fight through all the gunk sticking to the wall on it's way down 👍❤️
Wow, stunning transformation you've done an amazing job
Great job again mate!
What a great job so satisfying, may i ask why the door on 1st level?
Fabulous job Nick. She’s a looker now. Greetings from Niagara Falls, Canada.
That looks amazing
Thanks Douglas ✊
Another brilliant transformation. Well done.
Thank you so much 😀
Thats a beautiful house. It looked great when you finished. The cream color looked new!
Thank you so much!
Wonderful, well done!
Many thanks!
wow very nice job!!
Thank you very much 😍
Wow! Looks really nice ❤
Thank you! 😊
Mega results Nick well done 👏👏👏
Cheers Col 💕
Stunning Mate....now for the sides and back 🤣
Hope you're well
Stu
🤣 that'd be nice 🤑
That is beautiful - that’s one heck of a job to tackle 😊
Thanks Trisha 🥰
Wow Nick what a good job you have done tedious i know doing it brick by brick but hey great job once again !
You must have the patience of a saint ! That looks a very hard job and so slow to do . Fantastic job to watch but I would not like to be doing it. Good luck.👍🏻😎👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Wow!
Fantastic job Nick, but so time intensive
Greetings from an Autumny New Zealand.
Guessing this will be a repeat booking so close to a busy main road. Great video as usual
Beautiful old house.
It sure is!
Awesome job...what a difference
Thank you! Cheers!
The order of work needing to be done is intriguing to me. Garden first, window frames and sills, last is the brickwork. Yet the brickwork is first. Which is not shown in its true light because of the garden and window sills not being done.
Hard job great work looks absolutely amazing 👏 👌 👍
Thank you so much 😀
Stunning work as usual. Beautiful result.
Don’t worry you are still cute when you are grumpy 😘🤭😂
🤭 ❤️
Looks good
Thanks so much Nancy 💕
Amazing ! I could watch you media blast all day! Fun!
Can't help but wonder if that balcony originally gave views over open countryside. Nice work 👍
Great work on the brickwork.Did you do the whole house or just the front? They should have them clean the front wall and the walkway to the front door also to complete the picture.
That one red brick put in the wrong place so destroying the effect of the pattern must have been an FU from the bricky back in the day 😂
What a beautiful house! It's just the type that I'd like to own. Oh well, i can dream....
Damn Ely has gotten busy since I lived there 😬
Good result, well done - second story door interesting, no handrail? maybe melted down for the war effort many years ago???
That must have taken ages mate. Great job
It's not as slow as you might think, I blasted this whole facade in a day, which ain't bad 👍, all the best mate 👍
I was wondering as well
May I ask why you use that type of sprayer? I would think something like what's used for sidewalks and driveways would be faster, so I assume there must be a reason to use this one. I watch without sound so I apologize if you explained this already.
So you are running air driven wet sand blasting?
I assume that the air and the media feed are inside the outer hose.
This would be much gentler than high pressure water driven wet sand blasting.
.
i'm interested in what media you are using.
.
i do quite a bit of in cabinet dry blasting and use a variety of media ranging from gatnet to bicarb soda.
.
In my high pressure blaster i use ordinary dry sifted sand, because it is wet and single trip blasting.
A lot of guys here use crushed glass for single trip blasting. It's cheap and comes in medium and fine grades.
The fine grade is similar to glass bead, but cuts more agressivly.
In a recurculating application glass breaks down pretty fast, but in single trip it does not matter.
Good job , hard work though 👍
Random question- why aren’t you going “top down” - why do you clean from the bottom up?
Enjoyed the video! Curious, did the red bricks not get the same treatment?
Indeed they did, I would clean them separately from the creamy ones as they were softer
Hello mate just a quickie what leaf blower do you use for after sanding ?
Stihl petrol blower 👍
Damm that looks like new brinks nice one bud, id hate to see how long it would take to do the whole house.
wooooow
Night and day difference.
Whats with the door upstairs? Was yhere a railing at one point onbthat open balcony ?
Cheers 👍. Yes there was a railing there at one point, the owner is having it replaced at the same time as having the window surrounds fixed
Hi Nick sorry I am a bit late you caught me watching Doctor Who related stuff 😂😂
Wow what a difference that made to the front of the house.
I do have one question that I may have missed the answer too so sorry if I did but I noticed you only cleaned the white/yellow bricks and not the red just curious as to why?
Hope you are all well and your day did improve that day 😂
Hugs to you all 🤗🤗
Sorry going back to Doctor Who now (only for you did I interrupt it 😂).
Awesome. Is there a specifc reason to go from bottom to top rather than top to bottom?
Yes indeed, if you start at the top, by the time you reach the bottom, there’s a build up of blast media at the base, so can make hard to blast the last few rows, it also makes a hell of a mess splashing back at you. You also don’t have to fight through all the gunk running down the walls, which makes things quicker and easier 👍
@@PrestigeExternalCleaning Thanks for the explanation. 👍
Nice job, what equipment & media are you using?
Ibix Trilogy 28, 140 cfm towable compressor, fine grade aluminium cilicate
@@PrestigeExternalCleaning looks interesting, I spent years blasting & coating offshore. Definitely something I could see me doing and plenty job satisfaction.
What make is that machine for blasting it’s amazing what a finish 👍👍
It's an Ibix Trilogy 28 attached to a towable 140 cfm air compressor 👍
nice
Cheers 😍
👍👍👍
Is there a reason why you don’t begin at the top so when all the grime is dripping down as you go lower you rinse off the mess as you go? Curious
Edit: Oops. Forgot to say WOW beautiful result
Hi mate, many thanks. Yeah I should have put why in the video, so instead i've just written a long explanation and pinned it as a comment at the top of the comments. 👍
I thought Cambridge was in Massachusetts.
A question for you about media blasting, would CO2 blasting be more effective or is there mitigating circumstances that it would damage the bricks more? The reason I ask is I use it to clean the bottom of cars and there is a lot of tar and oil that just falls off with CO2 blasting.
CO2, or dry ice blasting as we call it here, would be an excellent option, I know a company that does it, as no messy blast media to clean up. Unfortunately don't have that equipment though, so have to work with what I have. Laser cleaning would also be another excellent option, something I will probably invest in, in the future 👍
Why does it have Knight House on it?
If your ever down Hampshire way and need a hand let me know. Would love the opportunity to learn a few things from you to increase my knowledge in the industry
Why didn't you just you a standard Pressure Washing kit?
Pressure washing would be ineffective at cleaning carbon staining
Loved the results but why did you not start at the top and work your way down? You wouldn’t have to keep on reclining the work that you already have done!
Please read pinned comment at top of page
I would share, but I don't have any friends! #Sigma
lol, me neither
Why did you not clean the stone below the windows? It is black in areas and takes away from all the work you did, Little things can mean a lot. Other wise a great job. 😊😊
He mentioned they are being repaired by a different company
Thanks, but that was explained in the video 👍
He literally has a disclaimer at the beginning of the video stating another company that specializes in that type of work is coming to clean it
