I live up here in Michigan where there are tons of outside wood boilers. They usually have SS water jackets and they crack from expansion and contraction over time. I have switched to Stainless mig wire and Tri mix gas due to time it takes/saves. Had to relearn mig welding almost. I learned it was “get a puddle and GO!” Type of welding or it gobs up.
    As always great video!

I've ran alot of stainless flux core, it was dual shield .045. It was lincoln wire i believe. I was building bumpers for the coal pier dock in Norfolk virginia. I attached stainless 3/4 nuts to steel dock bumpers. The nuts attached umhw plastic to the steel panels. It welded beautiful. Gas was 100 argon, gave me a headache after a 10 hr shift.

Thanks for the education on working with stainless steel. I’ve done very little stainless work. You brought some very good points across about mig different wires and heat and wire speed. I don’t have any inverter type of welders. However, I’m thinking very seriously about learning to tig and if I do I’ll be going with an arc captain machine. Thanks again for your videos the content is extremely helpful.

What I was taught in school for welding was it goes Short Circuit and then globular transfer is the state of the wire before it gets to being hot enough to be a spray arc I was taught that globular transfer is good for horizontal and flat and I have not heard that term globular transfer in a long time you either hear short-circuit or spray arc or pulse spray and now they got this new thing called double pulse at least I'm just now hearing about it

Didn't notice if you mentioned what polarity you used with the stainless flux core wire, but the self shielded runs on reverse polarity (DCEP). You also need to be up around 23-24 volts minimum... it's definitely not a low voltage wire. It's possible the wire could be trash, but I'm thinking your polarity and voltage could have been the problem.

@@NBSWELDING yep, I'm pretty sure swapping to dcep will make a big difference in the profile of the bead. It's been a long time since I used it, but I seem to recall it looking like a ball on the end of the wire while you're welding... So don't be alarmed if it looks odd because it's kind of just how the stuff runs.

It’s the gas cb you need the right tri mix and I can’t remember what I found was the optimal but it had a fair amount of helium in it as far as I can remember I haven’t done anything in quite a while with mig sst most of the stuff I’ve welded in the rail car industry that was sst was either flux core with co2 and 75/25 or sst stick! Haven’t really miged it since the 90’s or early 2000’s now I don’t weld for a living when I run into a side project It was tig or stick sst. Side note your flux is electrode positive I believe

"I put that sh!t on everything!"
Frank's hot sauce? Seriously? Seems kinda weird to try as a cutting fluid. I wonder how that began? 🤔😄

Is there any liquid that wouldn't work?...I don't think you'd get a different result if you compared hot sauce to plain vinegar really

Your screen size is blown up or something. Try shrinking the screen\picture back to normal by bringing 2 fingers together on screen. Find a 10 yr\old kid to help fix it for you! It's definitely an operator error on your device not the video itself, everything on the screen is normal on my device - thumbs up included! 👍🏻👌🏻

You would have had better luck running a tri-mix gas with stainless. Argon, CO2 and helium.

I don't do enough stainless to lease another tank....it has been suggested that stainless flux core runs best on DCEP so I gotta try again on that polarity

@ If I need tri-mix I will rent a bottle and cost it to the job.

Almost behaving like it's a dual Shield just for shits and giggles try it with some gas if you want I bet that porosity goes away

It has been suggested that I should have been running the stainless flux core on DCEP so maybe that was why it didn't work well. I was running it on DCEN like I do all other flux core so I'll hafta try it on DCEP to see if it performs better that way.

In my experience, stainless is pure misery no matter what you do. Tig vs Mig?, don't make it artsy unless the intent is art. Go for function!
