The SL55 is made as a hybrid of three different styles. It has the Tele style body, a Gibson style neck, and Gretch filtertron style pick-ups. It's made to be the best of all of the different companies in one guitar. Nobody seems to understand this. But, great video btw, I also enjoy Slick guitars.
I liked my Slick SL55 but replaced it with aTE90 FLT. The quality, weight and components worked better for my taste. Slick and GFS are great looking hot rods!
A 6k humbucker is really weak. But if it's like a vintage filter tron, the base plate and the magnet is supposed to make up for it. So it's definitely a different sound.
Holy cow! Man that guitar is smokin ! Love that thing. What a cool guitar, and the same goes for your jamz and tones. You created some soulful and beautiful music in this one. Very tasteful, and that tone in the opening jam.... Wow! Same with the ambient Christian jam. And yeah - seems like it can do whatever a player might want it to do. Built like a Tank too!
@@jessetrimble7312 man, that’s a great point. I didn’t know that’s what you were thinking of doing. But it’s a really cool idea; let me know if you try it!
Nice review. I have a SL60. To help with tone issues, on the neck I play closer to the bridge. To get warmth into my bridge, I just play a bit closer to the neck pickup. Like Johnny Cash.😂
Thanks for making this review. I am considering purchasing, but the neck specs on their website are inconsistent. Could you please post the nut width measurement as well as neck thickness at the 1st fret of your SL55? That would be a great deal of help!
I like this a lot. I'm looking at getting a new SL56. The new offset model. If I decide to get another TStyle, this would be great. I like the Filtertrons. My problem with all of these, is the lack of a tone control. The SL56 has a tone and volume. knob. Nice Demo.
@@RumblinMan I ended up going for the Grote 335 with P90's. lol! For $200, I couldn't not get one. I'm still looking at getting the Slick double cut LP Jr style, though. Maybe.
These pickups are very low output, more like a single-coil (that happens to be humbucking), 6.6K Bridge, and 6.0K Neck, much like the original pickups they are modeled after (Gretsch Filtertrons - which had even lower output - about 4.5K). If you want a little more punch, you can try the GFS Modern Lead pickups, which have 7.8k Bridge and the neck is 6.8K. It's very easy to switch them, since they should be wired with Kwik-Plug systems.
What necks fit the neck pocket?? Would I look for tele or strat heel to fit this neck pocket? I think the guitar is stellar but the headstock is ugly and that dumb logo looks stupid on that body
Like Tim Pierce always says, guitar that doesn't stay in tune gets rejected by him immediately. If a guitar isn't staying in tune he puts it down and grabs another one every time. It's a deal breaker for me too. And I own a couple of guitars that have that problem. I will continue to work on them but if they don't come around I'm going to sell them.
The wrap around bridge is a deal breaker for me.. No way to add a trem. I'd love to be able to ad a trem. don't really understand why they do that when they distribute X trems.

Thanks for this helpful balanced, and honest review!
My pleasure! God bless.
Dude, I’d love to have a jam like the opening song going in my ears while I’m riding the back roads on my motorcycle. 😎
That’s amazing!!!!! Thanks so much my bro.
Seriously. What a soulful song.
Great review. I love that you highlight different genres. Really great video.
Thanks SO MUCH bro!

How does it sound so much like a Lincoln Brewster Strat!
Man, that’s a strat I’d love to have.
Came for the slick review, subscribed for the excellent playing. Wow

Man thanks so much for all your kind words about the video. It’s a super cool axe. My fav they make is the SL51. Rockin guitars.
Wow awesome man! I never got those tones in my zoom G5N, the patch was so good 🥰
Would you do a gamble on one with high frets as a neck swap candidate?
Eh. Maybe! I don’t know because I haven’t tried. It might be easier just to get a luthier to fix the frets.
Thanks for replying. It just seems like a baritone one of these would be awesome for Josh Turner tones and some worship

Great honest review and playing different styles of music. I subbed.

Fantastic review! You’re making me want one badly.
Thanks Chris! Hope you can score one.
Good honest review!

Great playing, sounds great!

Beautiful performance and amazing voicing!

Love the facial expressions 😁
Dear Jesus! That song you made for the introduction was so beautiful that it made me want to cry, and to purchase one... ❤️❤️❤️
I’m honored. Thank you.
Killer tonez
Thanks bro!
Very slick looking😏
Haha!
I see what you did there.

Yep, I’m with ya on the tone control thing. For that reason I really like the SL51 and SL57. Haven’t tried the new offset, but would really like to.

They’re not. Only the Xavieres have kwikplug
Cool guitar and video. It'd be great if you review something from xaviere too
I’d love to. Perhaps I’ll reach out to them.
is it me, or does this guitar have tunning issues with the keys? I have it but cant seem to stay in tune. Love the playing and tone 👏
Thanks for the info. I didn’t know the tuners might have issues.
Did you check the nut if you still have it?
How much setup did that require?
I like a lot that Cabronita vibe.
What necks fit the neck pocket?? Would I look for tele or strat heel to fit this neck pocket?
I think the guitar is stellar but the headstock is ugly and that dumb logo looks stupid on that body
A standard fender neck fits, but make sure you buy one that’s not drilled because the holes won’t line up
@@BrandonEht ok.
Tele or strat heel?
Be careful, I think that it is a gibson scale.
If you filled in the gap between the L and I on the headstock you'd get SUCK. However this guitar kick's booty, and great playing man.
Thanks man!
