- Lock & Co. Hatters is the world's oldest hat shop, the world's 34th oldest family-owned business and is a Royal warrant holder. Founded in 1676 by Robert Davis, the business has been co-run by the Lock and Stephenson family since 1801.
The hat shop is responsible for the creation of the bowler hat, worn by Charlie Chaplin, and the bicorne hat, worn by Lord Nelson. It has a portfolio of esteemed clients, including the Queen, Oscar Wilde and Winston Churchill.
Is it just me or does Londonist feel awkwardly split between the Geoff content and the non Geoff content
Its not just you.
Diesel 166 It’s a good thing though. It means Londonist has two very strong “brands”.
What a great video. I love these quirky places that have a huge history behind them, even though I'm highly unlikely to ever wear one of their hats :)
My dream is to eventually own one of those bowlers
Same. Just a little bit of saving I suppose, though I can see myself flipping my lid when I have to pay $40+ for shipping.
Go for it, William! Good luck! I´d love to have a boater hat lile the one behind Roger Stevenson at 00:31
William W I myself am going to visit London with my best friend at the end of the month. I'd at least want a barbershop boater hat from Lock & Co.
the business appeared in the kingsman movie
Hurray more of this content on Londonist please. 👍🎩
Wonderful! I am going to pay them a visit!
Isn't ancestor/descendant the other way round?
Perhaps he's a time traveller who messed up
David Green yes
I was just going to say… too bad they can’t tell the difference between ancestors and descendants
Good video. It was interesting to see a shop, especially a family owned shop, that is older than my country by a little over a hundred years.
tallman11282 there are hundreds of really old businesses in Britain. The butcher who sold Henry VIII his meat is still in business. In my own home town there is a pub founded in 1290! You have to duck to get through the door.
The Bowler brothers, Thomas and William designed the bolwer in 1849 for Lock & Co
Thank you UA-cam, I looked at the comment section thinking every single comment would say kingsman, but it was actually less than a majority of it. Thanks to everyone that restored my faith in humanity.
I tip m'fedora to these lads
Going to take the Liberty to Lobb another video out about London shops?
Nice
did you get a hat made for you?
Purchased my flat hat there.
1' 01"-07" transposed 'descendant' and 'ancestor', but if they were the original Mad Hatters, I suppose I can forgive them.
What accent is the narrator's? I kinda like it.
Irish i think
Irish. East Coast.
Sounds like he's from the Irish Free State for sure rather than Ulster.
Thank you all very much!
English is my third-language and I often didn't understand some words he spoke, so can't say that I'm a fan

_Your hat size is 4!_
Has anyone noticed how much money the goverment has taken from the transport sector? I go to a zchool near loughtoun where there were 2 buses the 20 and 167, (there are 3,schools close to each other) they shortened the 167 so it only goes up to loughton instead of debden that has missed all 3 schools so everyone has to get the 20 does anyone get what im on about?
i got annoyed by him saying 'hass' instead of hat
Plastic tags on your products like we walked in there to rob u blind, with pins
How many minutes before Geoff the wiggly mess removes this video and then reuploads it again?
