Nope. The only people I’ve had stalker and boundary issues with over the last year of being on the internet have all been women.

My husband is dying from cancer and my twins are headed away to college. This leaves me and a 3 year old. I’m really considering getting in my van and going with her. Total city girl here and never camped lol. I’ve watched tons of videos and yours seem to be the best for me. Only thing is I have to consider a seat for a child’s car seat. How do you even get started making money from the road? Thanks so much for your posts.
Are there free spots at most sites or are winging it at times until someone confronts you?
I have always taught my kids that any trash you bring with you at camp you take with you when you leave. If there is trash when you get there pick it also. Now even when we are not camping they if they see trash somewhere it does not belong they pick it up.

I looked up the meaning of the word 'BOONDOCKING' and as a Filipino I laughed so hard after finding out the origin and meaning of the word lol.
The word "Boondocks" derives from the Tagalog word "bundok" which means "mountain". The word came into American use after the Philippine-American War when returning military personnel used the term. It became a slang word for suburban or rural areas.
Love that you said to leave it better than we found it. That's the only way it will stay free! Love mother Earth!

Our favorite camping ground was a boondocking place. Although, we just thought of it as "roughing it." People tried to hold spots, but the Forrest rangers would not allow that. A whole family tried to have a reunion there and ribboned off areas with yellow tape. That all got removed. Turns out, boondocking places are not for big family gatherings. Lol We always drove way back in and always got the same spot. People just don't want to drive that far.
Where I live is pretty far out from town. My "side yard" is protected state land. I was driving along a very popular stretch of road. They have multiple bike runs down it every year. I spotted a very small fire. It was from a tossed cigar. I dumped my soda on it. Still blazed. I called the fire dept right away, but because of where it was located, it took them 20 mins to arrive. By that time, another motorist (people from Sweden!) had pulled over and they were trying to help me. We were stamping, throwing sand. That small little fire, like the size of a lit candle, was spreading and building in intensity.
People really don't realize how dry the vegetation is. Thankfully the dept was able to extinguish it. It's all open range cattle country out here. If that other motorist hadn't have stopped to try to help, I don't know what would have happened.
A good rule out in dry desert areas is to bury your ashes under sand after you have soaked them.
Yes! This happened to me when I was driving through SW Colorado, someone had flicked a cigarette and started the brush beside the road on fire last year. So scary how quickly it can spread!
Thanks for sharing. It's so important to use extreme caution when camping. Even small things can set off fires and cause devastating damage.

Funny story about holding spaces and confrontations. There was a couple that decided to use a secluded numbered dispersed site I was staying at in Colorado and set up while I was out hiking. I had a 4 person REI Kingdom tent set up that I was using there for 3 days. On day 2 I drove to a trail head early in the morning that was 3.5 miles away to do a 10 mile hike. I didn't feel like leaving my vehicle at the camping spot and doing a total of 17.5 miles. LOL. So, anyway I came back from my hike around 2 pm and find this couple had completely set up a 16 foot Airstream basecamp at my site about 30 feet from my tent. I had to parked my vehicle about 2 feet from their SUV - they didn't even want to say hi to me or acknowledge my presence. I started to make something to eat and after about 30 minutes tried to figure out how to nicely ask them what the heck they were thinking since I already had a 4 person tent set up. I ended up asking the couple why they decided to camp on a single numbered site when I was already clearly there. They said they thought there was enough room. I nicely told them that it was a single numbered spot and the reason I camped there was for the nice seclusion. They didn't respond and went in their trailor- I thought they probably would leave. Two hours went by and by their actions I thought I would have to share the space. I thought to myself what would I do if they were not there and decided to pretend they were not there. After taking a couple of whizzes in their view while they set up their table to eat, and stripping down to butt naked to clean and change outside my tent, they finally thought I was too weird to be around and left. LOL

Lots of good pointers for newbies! We are just back from a trip south to Arizona and boondocked most nights in our 25 foot trailer. We don't like RV parks, so avoid those. Now that I am about to try car camping, I'm eager to try 'stealth' camping!

Going into rough rocky terrain damages most rigs. Lots of you tubers show going down pot holed rock studded trails, but it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. Every time I did that something got bent, things shook loose, or damaged. And I’m a granny driver. This is a really insightful video with excellent advice
Very true, but sometimes being a ‘granny driver’ isn’t enough, there is actual strategy driving these roads. Some are just more technical than others, but washboard roads shouldn’t deter someone.

Brooke you are such an amazing resource....I would love to do this and try it, not a great choice here on the East Coast - too crowded. The West Coast sounds like a fun trip and just to be somewhere QUIET....would love it and also to sit outside and watch the meteor showers. You must tell how many have you seen being at the higher elevations. Love Pips she is so much like my old gitl, settled and so into being with Mom. You are blessed! Thanks for your open and honest descriptions of road life. I am setting up a Prius Prime, lol, I know small, but it will do the job and cost a lot less for long runs. They also have climate control all night with little fuel use. Some advantages and disadvantages.

Thanks for these tips. I like your presentation/manner. I believe in Leave No Trace. I am a recycler and a composted. I’ve asked another UA-camr if this is an option in the West. Is it? I’m from the Northeast and we do.
This varies city to city just like everywhere! But with boondocking you have to pack out your trash anyways, so it would be up to you to find trash/recycling anyways

I was wondering do you have a plan for your dog in case something unexpected might happen to you? Such as a medical situation; something where you would be brought to the hospital? Hopefully a friend close by that could care for your dog in the event something happens. Also, it might be a good idea to have something that you wear (like even a medical bracelet) that says "my dog is in my car" along with description or license plate of your vehicle. This way, your dog would be rescued from the car and cared for. Sorry I am not trying to be negative but I tend to be a "what if" type and i am curious. Love your channel

I love SUV tent camping. I'm on the east coast and don't have access to many BLM sites as you. So, I camp in state parks most of the time. I've had strangers come up asking me all kinds of questions about my SUV tent, etc., and even been flirted with. How do I respectfully discourage this? All I want is solitude and not be bothered.
I have no idea lol. Stop being nice when people ask? Socializing is part of camping culture for a lot of people
Really don’t think there is any way of preventing friendly people from chatting. Flirting? Maybe don’t be available…that’s one I have not had to deal with!
I wear an ear bud and say I'm on the phone thanks.. it helps to keep people back.. been doing this for 4 yrs and I have had a AWFUL time with people and there lack of boundaries.. so make yours stiff.. I dont like to have to stay in my car because another person is uncomfortable.. the best part is you can move very quickly.. your sanity and safety are PRICELESS..
I’m confident with myself and my dog as far as safety but I must admit at first in the boonies I’m going to especially be on guard. How or when did you feel comfortable out in the boonies? Thanks!
Just with practice! And like I said if you have cell coverage usually even if you are in the boonies there are plenty of other campers around

Hello brook & pippa I don't really talk much but I've been watching most of your videos could you do a video on like what you do like when you're sick like with the flu 24-hour bug like I know with RVs it's different because you have a sink or a toilet but like and especially if you have an animal and you don't feel well then what happens
In the two years I’ve been on the road I haven’t even had a cold, so I actually don’t know what would happen. I’ve also never had like a 24 hour bug like you are describing. I’ve never been one to get sick very often. I guess you would just get a hotel if it was that bad.

That’s so interesting - all the stalkers being female. I guess men have finally gotten the message random advances are usually not welcome. Sure you may “win a female over” now and again “not taking no” for an answer, but how many dozens have you annoyed to no end or completely freaked out.
Women need to also learn that. Trying to force things generally does not go well. Like most things in life, 99% of people are fine or even great. It’s that 1% creating so much toxicity.
Perhaps I’m so old it’s hard to let go of an idea, but are you sure they were all women? Lol. It is the internet after all. You mention watching “Catfish” so assume you must be pretty savvy on that topic. Lol.
Sounds like a HUGE amount of work and planning to me. That would cut into your joy and sometimes be downright gruelling. Life should not be so difficult. Maybe a better idea would be to purchase raw land that you can camp on and know that no one else is there.
Have you ever considered that I enjoy the planning process and get satisfaction out of finding new spots? Camping alone on one piece of land takes away all of the exploration and fun in meeting new people and seeing new places.
