Ship showdown should be based on category: so for example you have five categories based on size: XS (S0 - S1), Small (S2), Medium (S3), Large (S4) and XL SS5+)? This make it more meaningful because how can you compare a Cutter with a 890? Instead compare a Cutter with the Titan or the Aurora. Just based on my own preference: - XS: Nursa - Small: Nomad - Medium: Cutty Black - Large: Redeemer - XL: C2
CIG keeps promising changes to the way BIS works, we have yet to see them, much like the PTV’s promised skin. Gladiator is by far my favoured choice as most deserving. It is, from memory the only ship to have been the centre fold in a magazine, yes stopped bare and showing its schematics, and so steeped in lore and yet it is just so unloved and if the F7C mk. 1 has been decommissioned I can see the Gladiator mk1 getting the same treatment. Personally, I feel the F7C mk2 introduction was a the worst thing CIG have ever done to older backers who purchased the original ships either every Mk1 should have been automatically converted to it’s mk2 variant when available or every owner of the F7C should have been given a $0 upgrade. Very similar to the Cutlass to Buccaneer upgrade back in the day.
@@algared6131 I fully agree. I do see this happening to older ships like the Terrapin, Herald, Freelancer series and possibly the Starfarer as well. I'm not sure why something simple as getting a skin for a PTV has to take so long or why long standing bugs aren't resolved quicker - QoL goes a long way. Of course none of us is closely involved with the work behind the screens and there may be good reasons why this isn't shared; but then just be clear about it - the 600 series rework also come to mind.

Until the Hornet, my assumption was that the latest 600i would simply replace the original; now, there's a thought that can't be shaken that the new 600i will appear as a Mk II ship that is a paid upgrade from the original...
Taurus is a solid pick, it is so much more than what was promised, unlike it’s luxury sibling. I’d personally like the Taurus over the Corsair because I actually dislike flying the Corsair but I have always like flying the a Constellation.
Haha, The PTV could definitely use some livery love. I am planning on keeping my PTV parked in my hanger. The new ships seem to get a lot of liveries right off the bat or within a few months. The Spirit series has a ton for being a ship that is less than a year old. The cutter, Pulse, Furry, all have several options. They need to revamp the 300 series in how they can be equipped including paint options. It completely sucks for 300 series owners that in order to apply paints. The options are done through the store or if you want to take it off. Melt the ship and rebuy. The 890J does need some options, as I don't believe any are available. The reclaimer could use some love. MISC freelancer, Starfarer, Hull A/C as well. Out of the ships I own that are flyable, I would like another MSR option or maybe an SRV (though the game play needs to be fleshed out more than livery options. Right now towing is really limited and forget about QT travel towing.) I wouldn't mind a BIS for the spirit since I own both the C1 & A1. Ships that would be low priority or can be put on the back burner for a while. Pretty much all drake ships. As most or all of them have several options or get the Ghoul Green livery in addition. Most of the fighters. The only possible exception might be the F8C. But with that one being limited ownership and no CCU ability to ownership.. It just doesn't feel right. C8 Pisces, Starlifter, 100i, 400i, (hate to say it) MSR, Conny all have a range of options. The 600i I am on the fence with. It's got some options. But most kind of suck. The best one IMO is the BIS from last year. The ones that are regularly available are a range of gray or silver. Or you got to wait for the limited time availability of a dark green or red delicious.
Both, Gladiator and Terrapin are solid picks. I do not own a Gladiator - but the turtle is part of my fleet since day 1. Personnaly, I think there is a lot of potential for some variants!
The C1 and Cutter both deserve a win. Other than that, I'll mostly vote for underdogs like the Terrapin and Syulen. I won't vote for anything that's won before.
Speaking of paints, I'm in the fortunate position to have a little fleet. But one of my frustrations is that I can't have a consistent paint scheme. I really wish CIG would do two things; firstly go through all the ship designs and do the work needed to make them all compatible with the paint system. Secondly, I would want them to list out all the different paint schemes and make versions of them for every ship. I realise this is a lot of work but in the absence of hex code paints, this would at least make my ships look like more than a random selection from a space car park. Edit to add: for ship showdown, I'd love to see one or more ships that currently don't have paints get into the last four. Terrapin, 890 or whatever. I don't mind if it's ones I don't have, I just want to see the love get spread around a bit.
I want an Executive edition paint for the MISC Razor. I'd also like to see a paint job for the Nox that matches the black n' bronze marble of the Tao’moa paint for the Syulen. I'm hoping we get a standardized "Racing Sale" for that matter, with new skins for racing ships n' vehicles... with and without sponsor adverts! But the PTV is due a skin, as is the Reclaimer (in my opinion!). The Caterpillar paints aren't up to snuff (gimme a black n' yellow Hazard theme guys!) and I'm still waiting on a black n' purple skin for the Cutlass. I'd love to see a black n' yellow Hazard skin for the Pisces as well. I dunno... it's a wishlist... and some of those I'd vote up in the Showdown. Great stuff, gents! Speedy recovery to you, Al. Vandul swarm was a pain in the but for rhe gladiator, I would love if they made the turret remote slaved to pilot drop copilot down into body abd give him displays for using torps, or if they add the option bombs when not using the remote. A sunken seat with no windows would keep the vibe too
The ship I think deserves BIS would have to be the Titan, and thats even despite me not owning one. The ship I think will win would have to be the Corsair. In terms of what I want to win It would have to be the Cutter. (I would be very happy if the Gladiator or Terapin won aswell)
Btw, Idris also uses the 8-seat Argo Personnel escape pods. If you destroyed the XT Idris, the wreck spawns 4 of these pods with Aegis branding on the outside
I really hope the Glad wins. Its the only ship that I can justify wanting a Mk.2 variant lol. I'd also like to see the Terrapin potentially win as well since I want some justification to own either of these two ships lol. I will say that the corsair just got a Best in Show skin so I think its fair for other ships to get some of the lime light.
890j was a ship we thought about but because we were keeping to three ships in each screen it got dumped. To over the line it would need every owner and many non owners to vote it into the top four. It is felt too niche and too big. I’m sure marketing would love the 890 to get in they would be thinking of the sales. Personally, I’d like to see it win because I’d love my 890 to have a skin (as long as it was t glaringly horrendous- which I suspect it would end up - Yes I still recoil in horror at the original BIS paints that were upgrades and not paints - those were and still are hideous in my opinion).
The 2 outsiders I can see are the Reclaimer and the Constellation series (probably Taurus). Both of these have had a bit of a renaissance between structural salvage and the master mode changes (introducing extra size 5s and more survivorbility). I don't know if it will be eligible, but I think the F7A MKii would also be up there. (And you guys definitely did a video for the Gladiator)

I wouldn't mind to see the C1 do well here. You could definitely do with a exciting new paint even though it has like a nice suite already. I guess if I was doing my own nomination I like the idea of the terrapin getting some love or maybe seeing some paints come in for the legionnaire. I think it'd be kind of funny to do one for long-standing concept ships. And then if one of those concert ships win, they have to immediately release it at the next ship release. My predictions for top 4 in no particular order: C1 Spirit, Corsair, F7C Hornet MkII, C2 Hercules (its been real popular this year) My personal top 4 best in show that have my vote: Scorpius (still the most beautiful ship to fly in the 'verse), C1 Spirit (prettiest daily driver by a mile), F8C (shes gorgeous, even if shes not in a great place right now), Retaliator (after the rework and ability to be used as a cargo ready daily driver with size 9 torps, as crap as torps are right now, this is at the top of my fleet right now)
Would like to see another Valkyrie skin, 3.23 really bought that ship back for me, able to fit an Ursa medivac in there made it a really nice FPS mission runner
We did consider the Vanduul ships but figured that since the model and styling of Vanduul ships has changed and will be updated once S42 drops we imagined CiG would t want to create. Skin for a ship model that would be removed.
The Syulen, the C1, and the Corsair are both awesome ships, but I don't know about them winning. Syulen is such a niche ship that I don't know if it'll have the support to even make the top 16. The C1 can, and probably will make the top 16, but since BIS Paints are only given out for the variant that wins and the other variants are SOL, I don't think that any ship that is one variant of a range will ever win since everyone will only vote for _their_ variant. I love the Spirit, but I bought the E1 and A1, so I'd only vote for them. The Freelancer was my Kickstarter, but I upgraded it to a MIS, so I'll only ever vote for the MIS. The 100 series is a great little shuttle, but I'd only ever vote for the 125a. The 325a was my second Kickstarter-era ship, so it's the only 300 series that I'd vote for. The Cutter is a great ship, but I have the Rambler. I love the Hercules line, but I only have the C2, so that's the only variant I'd vote for. I love the Vanguard line, but I only have the Warden, so that's the only one I'd vote for. The Corsair will only win depending on what it's paired up against. Lots of people own it, but, as others have said, it has lots of paints, so it's not likely to get the votes of players who don't already own it. I'd have to go back and look, but, IIRC most BIS Final Four ships are ones without variants, or ones that have variants but the base model is more popular than all the other variants combined (Cutty, C2).
Terrapin for me for selfish reasons. I don't know why but it is one of my favorite ships in the game. So versatile as just a puddle jumper to get from A to B with no worries about fuel. The Heavy Armor will be very useful for getting out of trouble in the future. I would love to see the variants that could come from it and it is certainly a good platform for several variants. Personally I want a TRUE Search and Rescue variant. Long Range, Heavy Armor, Tier ? Med Bed and maybe 4 SCU of cargo for supplies. They would sell a LOT of those. The C8R is a really great little ship and I use it every gaming session for something or another but the Terrapin? I own the Terrapin as part of my Exploration Mega Pack but if I didn't I would definitely upgrade from the C8R without question and I think a LOT of people would. From a marketing standpoint it seems like a no brainer for CIG and I predict that we WILL see a Terrapin Medical variant at some point and perhaps sooner rather than later. There are 7 unannounced ships coming and it would not surprise me at all if the Terrapin S&R could be one of them. Excellent show guys! o7
Something's wrong if the Spirit doesn't get top slot this year, or at least second place to the Corsair. Huge swaths of people LOVE the c1, use it as their daily, and even the people who don't still say it "looks nice".
I generally dislike the endless corridors in Crusader ships to get to the bridge. Crusader was one of my favoured companies in lore. That has been impacted by my general dislike of every ship in their line up mostly due to the endless corridor to reach the bridge.

The first selection of ships are great choices for ship showdown. Popular ships among the community and great ships for new players to experience during the free fly following the ship showdown. The second set of ships are where in my opinion you lost the plot. You selected 4 vehicles that all "have future potential", but have little to no use in their current states. How often do you see any of those in use in game?. Not only are they not popular among the community, but they are terrible options to offer new players to experience during a free fly. The "But this ship needs a paint" excuse seems to be older backers letting their frustrations leak through. I joined SC in 3.17.1, so a little over 2 years ago. Maybe I just haven't gotten as salty as longer term backers. But I see ship showdown as an opportunity to showcase what ships have been well designed and are therefore well liked among the community. The attributes of these ships can then help guide future ship development. To Meme the event with old or poorly executed ship designs torpedoes the opportunity to showcase what has been done right. And hands players checking out SC ships that are near useless, instead of fun to use. You hit the nail on the head with your first group, but hit yourself in the groin with the second.
I hope they submitted something trollish like the MPUV but they probably said the Gladiator. 😞 ...Then again saying Gladiator is kind of trollish. 😏 Terrapin will probably get a little time in the light as CIG works on scanning.

What no MPUV Tractor? That thing will be invaluable in 3.24, also the SRV is under valued due to lack of game play.

Terrapin for me for selfish reasons. I don't know why but it is one of my favorite ships in the game. So versatile as just a puddle jumper to get from A to B with no worries about fuel. The Heavy Armor will be very useful for getting out of trouble in the future. I would love to see the variants that could come from it and it is certainly a good platform for several variants. Personally I want a TRUE Search and Rescue variant. Long Range, Heavy Armor, Tier ? Med Bed and maybe 4 SCU of cargo for supplies. They would sell a LOT of those. The C8R is a really great little ship and I use it every gaming session for something or another but the Terrapin? I own the Terrapin as part of my Exploration Mega Pack but if I didn't I would definitely upgrade from the C8R without question and I think a LOT of people would. From a marketing standpoint it seems like a no brainer for CIG and I predict that we WILL see a Terrapin Medical variant at some point and perhaps sooner rather than later. There are 7 unannounced ships coming and it would not surprise me at all if the Terrapin S&R could be one of them. Excellent show guys! o7

Something's wrong if the Spirit doesn't get top slot this year, or at least second place to the Corsair. Huge swaths of people LOVE the c1, use it as their daily, and even the people who don't still say it "looks nice".
I generally dislike the endless corridors in Crusader ships to get to the bridge. Crusader was one of my favoured companies in lore. That has been impacted by my general dislike of every ship in their line up mostly due to the endless corridor to reach the bridge.
That's a fair critique. I can't say it completely dissuades me, but I absolutely agree that is a flaw.

The first selection of ships are great choices for ship showdown. Popular ships among the community and great ships for new players to experience during the free fly following the ship showdown. The second set of ships are where in my opinion you lost the plot. You selected 4 vehicles that all "have future potential", but have little to no use in their current states. How often do you see any of those in use in game?. Not only are they not popular among the community, but they are terrible options to offer new players to experience during a free fly. The "But this ship needs a paint" excuse seems to be older backers letting their frustrations leak through.
I joined SC in 3.17.1, so a little over 2 years ago. Maybe I just haven't gotten as salty as longer term backers. But I see ship showdown as an opportunity to showcase what ships have been well designed and are therefore well liked among the community. The attributes of these ships can then help guide future ship development. To Meme the event with old or poorly executed ship designs torpedoes the opportunity to showcase what has been done right. And hands players checking out SC ships that are near useless, instead of fun to use.
