I actually cried with Gihun so hard when this scene came about , and this was the first time I bawled my eyes out when watching a show on the spot , shows how powerful this scene could get

This whole marble game make me cry alot.
Sang Woo tried to betray Ali to win and succeeded, thus being deemed a horrible person. Gi Hun tried to betray Il Nam to win and failed. Thankfully, Il Nam had immunity and was willing to give Gi Hun the marble despite his betrayal. At this stage, Gi Hun was just as immoral as Sang Woo, except Sang Woo was more willing to admit being a monster while Gi Hun kept trying to play the saint.
they were forced to make the same decision because they were life and death, sang woo purposely didnt help gi hun in round 2 and killed the dude on the glass bridge
it isnt 1 bad action that makes you bad, its multiple
@@napoopy Exactly, while Gi-Hun is no saint here. Sang Woo purposely doesn't tell the objective of the second game to eliminate competition, while Gi-Hun is fighting for his survival here.

@franklinclinton6313 Gi Hun admitted that making smaller sacrifices is necessary for the greater good. Sacrificing a few X's lives is necessary to ambush the guards, seize their firearms, and take down the game organization, which would save the lives of thousands of future players. It's the same principle Sang Woo had when he pushed the one guy off the bridge to save three lives, including his own. In the mix of the trolley problem and prisoner's dilemma, Gi Hun had become Sang Woo right from the beginning, both under the guise of having "no choice".
Gi Hun did apply his full strength and strategies during the tug-o-war round to save his own skin at the cost of the others' lives. So why is Sang Woo so antagonized by doing the same in every other round? Because Gi Hun maintains a remourseful look on his face with tears rolling down his eyes whenever he wins a game?

First time I cried while watching this entire series bro 😭
This scene broke me down so bad I cried so hard and it hit me harder because at the time my father just died of brain cancer and had some same behavior has the old man and my father's dementia came back to mind
At times, I gaslight myself into thinking that this is the end for Il-Nam. The twist still works, but this is infinitely more impactful without it.

Keep your tears, while it is a trick, it's also a thoughtful lesson/reflection to know what it feels like to betray someone.
You do your best not to hurt them, but lying through your teeth to them to preserve yourself is only going to kill you inside more, especially if the person you're lying to has caught on to your lie already and is just playing along without you knowing.
Truth hurts, but it's real, betrayal is nothing but pain.

This game was honestly so cruel. The fact that no one knew they would have to face their partner and how a good majority of the pairs were close friends or family. Gi Hun and Oh Ilnam saying they could win since it wasn't about strength, Sang Woo and Ali believing they were an unstoppable duo. Only for it to be sliced in half because they had no idea what the game was. Squid Game did a fantastic job in the shock factor department
Also there is a couple of husband and wife. They would always paired up just to be tricked by this game. That couple scene also added the traumatic experience.
That's why the lady said to choose someone that you want to play with. Yes so cruel

the difference between gi hun's betrayal and sang woo's one
gi hun was forced to do it for surviving, and he did it with regret and a lot of crying for doing this to his good friend
sang woo didn't have any regrets, he just did it and felt like nothing happened at all
I feel bad for Gi Hun. He keeps being allies with people who are secretly creators/hosts of the game.

I hate the twist of Il-Nam being the creator of the game mostly because it completely ruins this scene. The “sacrifice” is completely meaningless considering he was never actually going to die.
