    Feels like CHP really cut corners with these units. Has no side lighting at all. And you’re basically depending on the white from the OEM headlight wig wag for any response clearing.

      The enemy of good is better. More lighting and fast flash patterns cause confusion. Big bold blocks of light is what gets attention, especially approaching from behind.

    • @dehz4948
      @dehz4948 8 місяців тому +5

      @@StreetGlideSpec That's only true if set up correctly. When set up like this, it's simply nothing. Big blocks are good, yes. However you still need enough of them and in the right places for them to serve their purpose.

    • @RedHat2023
      @RedHat2023 8 місяців тому +4

      Actually, with the way CHP sets up their flash patterns, they could get away with adding more lights. For me personally, I find it becomes an issue when you have both the blue and red flashing together, as from a distance it creates a purple haze. Now, to the front, red is the most dominant colour, and given that it's Californian, that's okay, since red is the primary warning colour for emergency vehicles. The way my country solved it is not only by including slow patterns for on scene use, but by not adding massively bright lights to the rear (besides the lightbar). From a distance, even when operating in a quad flash, you can still see the red and blue quite clearly with no purple haze, because the blue and red alternate. Since Calif. vehicles require a front steady burning light and an amber light to the rear, the way the CHP has done it is fine (for the rear at least). Amber is wayy better than the other colours, mainly because of how far back it can be seen, regardless of what weather is present at the time.

      Profile warning is in the front push bar, combined with front headlights, might be enough. I think this is more of a supervisory vehicle rather than a traffic vehicle and thus not as many lights are needed. It’s also possible he didn’t activate all of his lights because it’s daytime.

    • @krawchek3881
      @krawchek3881 8 місяців тому +3

      I hope it’s more of supervisory vehicle. Too many is never good but it doesn’t even have the basic 3 levels of lights that basically every LE agency lives by these days. Has a small light stick above the hatch on the roof and that’s literally it for rear lighting. Very dangerous, didn’t even take advantage of the OEM flash patterns that Ford sells for the brake light/ reverse light or put surface mounted LEDs anywhere on the hatch or bumper.

    I do agree that less is more and I generally like CHP's approach as far as keeping it to bigger blocks of light. With that said, I think it's safe to say that this car could use at least one additional light on each side.

    This is a good looking unit. They look great. Not a fan of the new sirens though. The older ones sounded more distinct and stood out more. Also on the black and white versions of these SUVs, the lights are not in sync like the older units are. Good looking units, but it'd be better if they can fix those things if possible.

    Whats up with everyone talking about the lights on the polars, historically they've never had many lights on the polars. Should they? Probably. While i admire the tradition of chp the minimal lighting packages just arent good anymore, people aren't paying attention like they did years ago, all those chargers should at least have the wig wag brake lights added.

      Steady burns are made to be a way to indicate there is an emergency vehicle.
      It’s a specific LED all emergency vehicles in California are required to have, and it has to be seen within 1000 feet I believe. (If not 1000 it’s 500). This is the same to why all California vehicles have amber on the rear.
