It is disturbing to hear somebody calling locals who do not speak their language “stuck in their ways”. In my opinion if you move somewhere, it’s bare minimum to learn the local language.

Learn portuguese. It is a plus for you. And here in england I have been call to attention by speaking portuguese with my son, I was told that in england people speak english, not "that language, and theportuguese was moked. And it is not right that you are watting for people to speak english with you. In Portugal , I speakenglish, spanish, french, the languagesI know to help therourist, the foreighners living in Portugal Ido speak only portugeee because theway things are going because of the lasiness of many people, to do not say something else, soon no one spweks portuguese which occures already in my lisbon and I hate it!

As a Polish who visits Portugal often, i'd like to notice two things:
    - "locals are always late"seems to me a strange stereotype. I do some buiseness in Portugal and portuguese people get to know exactly opposite, always on time and ready
    - again , as a polish, i know many of my nation been insult for not speaking English in UK. Funny thing.

Imigrantes são os mexicanos. Estes americanos jamais dirão imigrantes. Enfim.

As an American it’s embarrassing when I see Americans abroad and they want everyone to speak English. Damn we can be so entitled sometimes. Even if you’re just going for vacation at least learn a few phrases of wherever you’re going. And if you immigrate somewhere learn at least some of the language.

Get to know burocracy in Portugal, because these days one can built one Association in one hour, among many public acts. Especially try to know how you can solve the burocratic issue by internet, through the public specific site. Some are not very known, ok, they are not so easy to find, but they help to overpass situations in a few time, that it would take too long to achieve in the public buildings!

The health care in Portugal is better than England. Because y9u have the chance of going to the private speciality without needing a insurance or the gidance of a gp, what does not happen in England.

Ele parece ser muito bom para todos, excepto para os Portugueses, que vêm os seus filhos com formação académica, a ter de ir para a Suíça porque aqui no seu país, nem ganham para conseguir alugar, muito menos comprar uma casa para viver😢

About the food, we demand quality or we prefere to eat less. There fore if there is no quality they do not sell. But food for us is 3xpensive because the housing is a cri e on the prices and the salaries are low comparably, and moust jobs are insecure, sme mouths contract and that is it, whe it is not hte case that they put you to experience and in the end you are not paid, this things happened to me may times. Big companies use the contrac tmethod. It is because, the government demand from the bosses to give for each employee the same to the government. Ia. The person receives 700 per mounth the boss, has to pay 700 to the employee and 700 to the government for that person, that for each employee plus the other taxes. They can not aford.
So the food as good quality, and it very cheap for foreighners visiting or living in Portugal with a good income on an inclme from abroad, but for the majorities of the Portugueses is a big struggle.

    Sorry, but I am portuguese.
    Safety as places.
If you live in sintra, cascais, parede, loures, odivelas, in this places but the hurban part of this places, not the turism. Then I am sorry, the gipsy problem in some and the gange problem in others, specially on the trains betwe3n sintra and benfica, cascais and cais do sodre, etc. Is is not dangerous it is very dangerous!
It is not everyday you will see those things or happen to you, but you can see the gang people, wableing around. I am frm rio de mouro, sintra, I left portugal because of the security. 3 days befor we left, I was robbed and to do that they push us, me and my 7 year old buy, down the stairs at fitares neigbourwood, on a saturday at 11 in the morning. There are dangerous places everywhere and safe as well, there are plades in Portugal very safe, the ones they know people is very poor, it is very safe, but others depend.

Healthcare is not free there. It's paid for through taxes. In some cases, 50% of one's income is extracted for Portugal taxes. . Without the NHR program, I am re-thinking our move from the U.S. to Portugal. Sad, because, I'm Portuguese!

Its 46%, half of what you earn in one year. But you need to earn more then 40K, or close. So, for our standarts, 40, 50K are the Rich Class. I think half is more then fair... knowing the average of 1.400€ per month of the majority of the Working Class...

@@vascoapolonio230940 and 40k are not rich by any means. I live in France and we make abiut that and prices at the grocery store in Portugal are often much higher than in France and even Luxemburg. Not to mention the price of cars. Portugal has a poverty mindset unfortunately and instead of demanding better politics from the goverment they are deeply jealous and blame who lives better than them.
