Perseus approached Medousa as she slept and beheaded her with eyes averted to avoid her petrifying visage.
On his journey back to Greece, Perseus came across the Aithiopian (Ethiopian) princess Andromeda chained to a rock as a sacrifice to a sea-monster. He slew the beast and brought her with him back to Greece as his bride.
Upon reaching Seriphos, the hero turned King Polydektes to stone, and then travelled on to his grandfather's kingdom to claim the throne.
The plot armor was better back in the day.
This is so cool. I just got back from Italy last night, and while there I had bought a little statue of Perseus slaying Medusa. Good timing.

If you don't already have this planned I suggest looking at Celtic mythology. I know you've covered Arthur but that's only a small, and somewhat tangential, aspect of it. With the relatively modern revival of alleged ancient Celtic practices and the pan-European influence of Celtic culture it might be a series in its own right but I'm sure you could do it justice.
I think if you made videos any other way then how you are doing it wouldn’t be the same so keep making your videos how you do and make amazing content

Thanks for the video, very insightful! If I may offer a suggestion, could you lift the treble setting on the audio as it sounds muffled on a smaller speaker?
It comes out muffled on a bigger sound system as well, the dialogue has too much bass coming out of my subwoofer, and it's hard to listen to at times. So yes, a bit of brighter EQ would make these fine videos even better.
Adjust the EQ on your end.

Guys, sorry if you talked about and I just didn't listen to, but have you seen anything about the horse medusa? I've seen some mentions of her having the body of a horse, what would justify Pegasus being her offspring, but never really invested much time reading about it.
I thought I remembered reading that Medusa having the body of a horse came from some of the older versions of story and over time that was changed for whatever reason. If anyone could confirm that or knows what happened a follow up would be much appreciated.
Random pronunciation note, AE in names and words like heraclidae is normally pronounced as “eye” (although it is ok to pronounce it as EE like in Caesar and I’ve heard many who say it that way) its generally used in Latin spellings of Greek words in place of ai, like in heraklidai

Also I'll a little miffed if you don't mention the attempts to syncretize Perseus with Mithras/Mitras (technically most of that was done in Bactria, so the more Urdu variation would be more accurate, than the former Latin.)
Linear B is decoded, it's Linear A that hasn't been deciphered yet. There are no literary works written in Linear B, but there are hundreds of tablets on which the Mycenaeans inscribed writings to in order to keep records. Those give some information about the names of their Gods and the hierarchy of the Mycenean world. All of this written in Proto-Greek.

I believe Perseus King of Macedon was the son of Philip V not Alexander V. Although there was an Alexander V who was the son of Cassander who died in the 290s bce
Herodotus does not really say that the Persians were descended from Perseus, nor even that they believed themselves to be descended from Perseus, but merely that they CLAIMED to be descended from Perseus. This is best understood as propaganda and diplomacy and nothing more. For another example, see 1 Maccabees 12:21, in which the Spartans claim to be descended from Abraham. It would be absurd to think the Spartans actually believed that, but it might be a convenient fiction on which to found a temporary alliance.

The Gorgons seem very similar to the protector beings in Tibetan Buddhism. An example would be Four Armed Black Mahakala or Ekajati. The protectors were originally powerful magicians or nature spirits that were conquered by buddhist yogis and put into the service of protecting the dharma. They have very similar faces and are both monsters to be feared and benevolent beings protecting a home or monastery. To me the Gorgon is one of the more relevant symbols we have today. You can barely go a day without seeing some scowling woman with strange fluorescent hair trying to turn all men into stone with their bulging eyes.
Very weird how this comment went from informative straight to weirdly misogynistic.

Things I didn't hear you mention:
-Females were forbinned on Medusa's Island as her stare wouldn't turn them to stone.
-Medusa was r*ped by Poseidon in the temple of Athen where she had run for help. Since she was pledges to the temple and broke her celibacy vow, Athena turned her ugly as punishment.
There are versions of her story where she is turned into a gorgon by Aphrodite due to her beauty threatening to make her more popular than the goddess.
Also, it's spelled forbidden.

The mangled accounts of mythology by late classic authors (Ovid for example, these are Daniel Ogden's sources) are fundamentally misinformed and generally slanderous, fabulous, nonsense. I assert this is a mistake not a service. If you wish to pursue this argument familiarize yourself with Robert Graves (The student of J.E. Harrison, who you claim to cite, I noticed no evidence of understanding her work, for example Ancient Art & Ritual) and his book The Greek Myths where you will find lucid and reasonable explanations of Gorgons, Perseus and other subjects mentioned.
Alexander and Hephestion being gay is a modern bit of nonsense. You find it hard to concieve of platonic male love because it is formed through danger, shared hardships, and adventure. Modern man has none of these things really, we just have unfulfilling surrogate activities. Imagine for a moment that you and your best childhood friend continued to hang out, went to war in the same unit, saw your other friends die, traveled across the world, for a decade, potentially saved each others lives, but at the end emerge on the other side. You'd probably be as close as blood brothers, if not closer. The same applies for Achilles and Patrocles, it's just incredibly lazy modern social messaging. Be better.
Zeus represents the laws of natural order, and this is why all the heroes are children of Zeus. Hera the laws of attraction Athena the laws of logic etc. These Gods are all energies and their influence on our reality. When you understand the myths describe these energies andhowtheinfluenceus you will have a complete ly diffenerebt understanding of Greek myths.

@@popcola1462 I wholeheartedly disagree - I enjoy the preamble and want to hear those '15 stories'; it's relaxing and it's generally tangentially linked to the subject matter. I was rather disappointed the preamble was as short as it was for this episode.
Fundamentally, this is a show that caters to people that enjoy stories; the episodes are not designed as academic lectures, even though their basis is in academic literature. I happen to fit their target audience and you do not. That's fine.
I do, however, take umbrage at your final assertion. By all means, dislike the show/podcast, but kindly don't besmirch quality content with subjective and seemingly uniformed accusations, presented as fact.
