jamell hues first, DJ Screw, aka Robert Davis aka the Godfather of screw was putting drank in his records back in'96, and as far as drank goes...
Originally the name brand was Barr, hence songs like Big Moe's, Barr Baby etc. Then Actavis bought the Co. But if gonna sip... It's gotta be, Promethazine WITH codeine, key word: c codeine! Homies out there sippin' that green stuff calling it "Drank". No no no sir! Unfortunately, Actavis was outlawed in Texas, Louisiana and IDK where else. There some other drank similar to the og like Watson's brand, but it doesn't taste just right. The really real now a days costin around $175 a line (ounce for y'all non-HTown livin asses).

When barre was still being manufactured we laughed at vc and tuss! Back in the 90s! I been sippin barre since 94... my last half a pint was off scripts! After that it was vc the red drank!
Mann like I said ,I'm from Louisiana and I started fuggin w drank around 95 or so..(I'm 40 now) and first time I touched it it gave me a warm relaxing feeling which would probably have me knocked out if it weren't for the codeine keeping me awake. we didn't mix that shit in no damn sodas or nunna that shit..we'd either sip it straight out the bottle or pour it in shot glasses and just keep passing em around the room.NO ONE was talking or rapping or trying to be cool about it..it was just the cheapest way to get throwed in those bc Medicaid I think would only cover THAT particular cough syrup (Promethazine/codeine) so that's what our parents got and they'd take a couple tspns and leave the rest in the medicine cabinet. we didn't know boys in Tx,Ms,bama & wherever else was doin it too.. around 98,99 we actually were addicted so we would go to ANY dr and w no problem he'd Rx you 473ml (1 pint) w a refill...a PT at K&B was I think $9.00 and it was a brown bottle that said Alpharma on the label. later on, to make it last longer THEN we would cut it w sprite..like 3ozs of syrup to a 12oz can of sprite. Around this time the fad caught on and we realized we weren't the only ppl sippin. A lil later Actavis bought out Alpharma and that's when it exploded. Everybody and they momma talkin bout "sippin syrup" DJ Screw this n DJ Screw that, pints shot up to $38 in the pharmacy and doctors starting to not wanna Rx it. a pint of Alpharma on the street in 99 was bout $150-200. Tops. In 2010 a pint in my area was no less than $8-900.
And yep, there's bout 5 diff dranks out now.. hi-tech, wockhardt,Sun/caraco, qualitest and whatever the fck else. And I'll sip any damn one of them shits bc they all have the same exact shit in em required by the FDA 6.25 prometh 10mg codeine & 7% alcohol. Some taste nasty,some don't. qualitest is the nastiest. Lean is a thing of the past around here bc NO DR. will Rx it because ppl done gave the game away Bitch ass lil Wayne the main one. Last time I HINTED to my doctor of 12 yrs for a "tiny something for my cough his words were " I would give you 200 hydrocodone 10's before I gave you any prometh/codeine..who you think you are lil Wayne now" followed by a chuckle. So lean is 90% dead in my area and they have only themselves to blame. sorry for the long rant but I just had to vent. Chuuuch!

The shit used to be under $300 for pint of alpharma or barre.Shit was never thousands of dollars and dudes didn't drink it hard like liquor all day every single day either, dudes were smoking fry and shit too, if they did they hit a few lines at a time and thats it, real opiate junkies in Texas moved to black tar and oxy and wouldn't waste their time with syrup.
